This man's talent knows NO BOUNDS and yet, he will always be so frustratingly humble about it. I love him being humble but sometimes it's like Geoff, brag a little, just once. Just a tiny miniscual brag. You deserve that much.
Thanks, Huldra! Geoff tells a pretty good story, when you can actually get him to open up! And "Maple Leaf Rag" as a middle school piano player?! That in itself is pretty impressive to me!
You just gotta ask them the right way. If you ask them a yes/no question, then they can often be short and they'll move on to something else. But give them a broader question that allows them to elaborate or share a story, then you might get lucky and get something a bit longer like this time. So sweet of them 🥰
Sweet, clueless man is still baffled that we are interested in anything beyond the music he creates and performs. 😅 Thanks for sharing, Huldra! And adding the clip of the song he mentioned.
OMG. Ragtime is HARD!!! I can't believe he switched from a very simple musical number to RAGTIME. And in MIDDLE SCHOOL! Oh my lord, so many pieces falling into place here... WOW!!
I love hearing his middle school story I know what e means not having clear memories but he is a bit young for not remembering, I’m 71. He gets a pass. Mainly because I love this guy and every thing that comes from him Yes , I’m obsessed!
My son is Geoff’s age and it’s like nothing ever happened to him in his life. He can’t remember anything. Even if I show him pictures he’ll look at them and say “oh, I sort of remember that”. I think that they have so many more distractions than we did growing up. We’re the same age and I remember clearly my first day of kindergarten. I have a few memories from before then with my grandparents (partly because they were quite old when I was born). But then again we only had three television stations at the time and only one came in without a lot of fuzziness. There were maybe two or three kids programs. There were no computers, no cell phones, no video games so I think our memories simply are more memorable.
Thanks Huldra for sharing this with us! Geoff is beyond amazing and so incredibly humble! Even in middle school he was playing piano very well and arranging music/lyrics and was a perfectionist.I am not at all surprised that he was that talented at such a young age!!! HE IS PERFECTION!!!!❤
Thanks Huldra! These little glimpses into the personalities of the guys are such a treat! I love this story, and your commentary is so cute! "My name is Geoff Snap Snap!" Lol!!!
I enjoyed listening to this wonderful story. Geoff is a truly humble artist and incredible musician... Thank you Geoff for sharing this memory with all sincerity and humility... There are so many things we wonder about Geoff... Thank you so much for doing this on our behalf, Huldra. 🙏♥️ Please let this continue.🙏
I loved this! Thank you so much Huldra for these wonderful snippets you get for us and I love your little comments, you & I most definitely share the same sense of humor. This was so cute and as you said, Geoff has obviously always been a perfectionist. I'm the same way & yup, it's a definite character trait. As so many others have said though, sometimes I just want to shake Geoff and force him to brag just once!
Mr. Castellucci, You are a very talented gentleman!. You have given me hundreds of hours of pleasure. Voice Play has given me hundreds of hours of pleasure!! Thank you!
Introducing himself to Adams Family.... He would expect it to be boring (even then) because the rhythm never changes. Duh duh duh DUH. Four beats, short thoughts. Maple Leaf Rag would allow so much more creativity. I wish he remembered the lyrics he used. Thanx, Huldra, I appreciate the insights!!
yeah, I also felt that was a big jump in difficulty, and the fact he only had the time in the morning to get the lyrics down and the song practiced on piano...
Somehow, it surprised me that he has that memory issue. 🤔 But the story was super cute and interesting. 🙂 Thanks, Huldra for asking and sharing. And thanks Geoff for answering, even amidst the memory difficulties! ❤
Maybe having a very creative mind keeps his mind so preoccupied with tons of stuff at all times, that his brain just pushes what it thinks might not be important enough to the back to make room for more important stuff? lol. I'm sure he remembers a lot more than he actually thinks he does, we've noticed he does remember a lot of stuff if he just gets reminded about it to get him going. A detail or two is often enough to get his memory working again
@@huldradraco As a psychologist, that makes A LOT of sense to me. 🙂 People DO remember tons of things they just don't know they remember, and/or they don't know how to recall. Yet it's enough to provide them a little "access key" (a word, a smell, a sound, a context...), and there comes the memory they thought they had forgotten 🙂. You'd be surprised at how much people can remember under hypnosis. And I mean OBJECTIVE, verifiable memories! 😅
If you have siblings or other members of your family that have better memories ask them to send you their versions of your childhood antics. My husband has always been deeply involved with music, sings, plays several instruments, and has been certified piano tuner/tech since 1972. Music is what he lives for, that and carbs. I don't think he would have many childhood memories if it weren't for his families propensity to tell those stories, especially the embarrassing ones over, and over, and over.
I personally love to hear people's origins, where they came from, humble beginnings, etc. Although he already sounded incredibly skilled at that age (or any age, really)
Thanks Huldra for sharing this. That man never ceases to amaze. Such a perfectionist even as a child. And your side commentary was spot on and so amusing.
@huldradraco I'm being nosy! Sorry/not sorry 😮 How do you get to ask our gorgeous guys questions about their artistry or their lives? Do you face time them or just send them your question & they send you their video response? I've watched several now & we never hear your voice in them. Just your added comments, which are always very appropriate & entertaining.😊(Love when the camera goes back & forth or up & down for yes & no😅) I truly enjoy watching these & learning extra tidbits about them. So fitting that Geoff became his choir's pianist after this assignment. I'm so appreciative of all the special, cool videos you share with us! Thanks for doing them! You are amazing & so caring towards others! Hugs!❤
Middle school choir was brutal. At my small town school, the kids were just thrown into it without a choice, so none of them actually cared about it, but I really did, so that was extremely frustrating. And singing a solo introducing yourself is definitely terrifying! Also, I wonder when Geoff is going to realize that he could literally talk about anything and we would all listen with rapt attention. Thanks Huldra for another cute video!
Dang. I played Maple Leaf Rag at that same age. (Of course, I also, that same summer, played piano reductions of right about the entire Nutcracker Suite too.... but, then again, I went on to major in piano, so... )
He is so beautiful.😍🤧 Look at that gray beard 😍😍😍😍😍 PS: the story is also captivating, I would like to see and hear him so young, singing and playing the piano.
This was very awesome thanks Geoff. I had lessons when I was 5 and my teacher hit me with a ruler. Told my gram no more. So I never learned piano. And that's o.k. I can always listen to you. ❤
hardly an interview. 😄 As a patron I get to send them one message a month that they reply to with a little video snippet, and I choose to use that message to ask them a question instead of a "conversation" back and forth, because I'm not really good at coming up with conversation topics 😅
I started learning to play piano when I was about 8, when a family friend replaced their piano and gave us their old one with lessons. Then I learned to play guitar when I was 12, the summer after my dad died. Despite four years more experience with piano, I can’t do anything else while I play. I can sing along just fine while playing guitar, but if I’m playing piano and someone asks me the name of the song, I can’t even answer them without stopping or messing it up. Then at 17, I taught myself to play the harmonica, but I’ve never mastered singing along with that either for some reason.
In High School I was in choir, and we had "tests" in the form of quartets. I was fine singing in choir, but I could not sing solo (as in the only one singing my part). I would get up there, and no sounds would come out My choir director tried having us do our quartets in a little storage room, still no dice. I still can't sing if I'm worried about being judged. I'm fine speaking in front of people, but singing? Nope. Can't do it.💜
Wow, ragtime seems so difficult! They got the best at the last. But we don't know what he sang about himself. Was it just not memorable? I know my memories are spotty, too. Old age. Well, cool, anyway.
My choir did that solo thing but instead of the whole class, we take turns one by one and sing to the teacher. I was still nervous. I also don’t remember much of my childhood so at least me and Geoff have something in common lol
It always amazes me that a person with his voice, musical talent , sweetness and gorgeous good looks is so very humble.
NORMAL ! 😊C' est une personne intelligente !!! 😊❤
RESPECT GEOFF ! NELLY ,BELGIQUE. 😊
Can't you just imagine the look on the teacher's face when he said he wanted to play AND sing, and started "The Maple Leaf Rag"?
This man's talent knows NO BOUNDS and yet, he will always be so frustratingly humble about it. I love him being humble but sometimes it's like Geoff, brag a little, just once. Just a tiny miniscual brag. You deserve that much.
He deserves more than a little bragging, but even just a little would make me so happy.
“So I decided I hated it and changed it all in one morning” - you’re right, he got that perfectionist brand nailed down pretty early!
Thanks, Huldra! Geoff tells a pretty good story, when you can actually get him to open up! And "Maple Leaf Rag" as a middle school piano player?! That in itself is pretty impressive to me!
oh yeah, he's actually a great story teller. he just has to be interested in telling it! 😄
Aww I love how they really take the time to answer, not like just offer the minimum. So sweet. Lovely chap. Thanks for sharing, Huldra!

Sure you had a chuckle at that!
Thank you both for sharing.
A very sweet story... even Geoff can get terrified!

Always love hearing from Geoff, but the side comments definitely enhance it! "It's me again" "you don't say!" 😂
glad you enjoy them 😄

That was such a sweet story! (I'd have been hiding under the piano). Thanks for sharing, Huldra 🧡
My memory is the same 😢
I was the girl spending lunchtime in the library reading either scary stories or books about ghosts. His story is way more impressive

Thanks, Huldra! I would love to hear his Maple Leaf Rag song about himself!!
It's a joy just listening to Geoff speak. We need a new "uhm" video as his voice is getting lower
What I wouldn't give to have been in that chorus and heard it! But if I was, I would probably have chickened out and not shown up. 😂
Thx Huldra for asking and a great thx to Geoff for answering. This was really interesting and reminded me of my music classes some 35 years ago😂😂😂
Love the story Geoff. Made me smile 😁.
Thanks Huldra! I love that you share these so that we can all get a little more insight into the VoicePlay members.
I personally love to hear people's origins, where they came from, humble beginnings, etc. Although he already sounded incredibly skilled at that age (or any age, really)
Now we need a short of him playing the Maple Leaf Rag
Geoff has been blessed with a wonderful gift and is just amazing and so humble.

Love this man so much!❤ Thanks for sharing that with us!
that was an amazing story wish I’d been a fly on that wall! ❤
That’s a fantastic story! No apologies!
Huldra, I also appreciated your commentary on Geoff’s story. You wrote out everything I was thinking.
Love this story. He's always been multi-talented & still remains so humble😊
Thanks for doing this Huldra. Really enjoyed it!❤
