Great videos! Where did you get the flooring?
Hi - thanks for the comment and checking out the videos 👍 I got the flooring from Harrison Trim suppliers here www.harrisonstrimsupplies.co.uk/Altro-Contrax-Rear-cut-floor-to-fit-VW-T5T6-SWB
@@TransitCustomCamper thank you!
Great video, really thorough. What size conduit did you use for the hopval blind please?
Ah thanks 🙏 hrmm now that’s a question! I can’t remember now it was about 1 or 1.5 inches I think? Sorry I can’t remember for sure 😅
Hi Dave. I've really enjoyed your series. It's given me a lot of inspiration to do my own build. I think you've probably spent a lot more than you realise. Firstly, I couldn't find any mention of the price you paid for the window units and professional fitting. I think you have also forgot a whole heap of sundry items. Table things, rear view camera, mains electrics?, screws & fixings, tv and bracket.....I reckon you have to be much nearer to £4k.
Yeah.. I think you probably right 😂 I wanted to cover the core parts of the build and yes some bits not in here for sure.. a lot of things I bought after and also for a bit more content to film too 👍
Hi there. Can I ask what brackets you used and where you got them from?
Looks great I've seen local conversions near me which are terrible and cost a fortune
Ah great thanks 👍 Appreciate the comment and for checking out the videos 😀
Love it
Thank you 👍
Boom! Thanks - been looking for an honest breakdown of DIY costs before I buy a van and get cracking. 🎉
Ah nice one thanks! Good luck with your conversion! Drop me a line with any questions and I’ll help if I can 👍 Thanks again for the comment and checking out the videos
Not sure why you made a whole cupboard ford the electric massive waste of space
Hey.. thanks for checking out the video and the feedback. What did you do on your build? It was my first attempt so be great to get your view? We can still use the cupboard & have since put in a shelf and a partition and a rail also.. so it’s not too bad 😅
The instrutions actually say to just set the refrigerator temp when using all the space. Ie freezer compartment taken out. And use the freezer setting for the hoke fridge when freezer compartment installed. That said my fridge still freezes following these rules. Annoying.
Any advice please, fridge comnected, lights on but its not getting cool at all and it's been on for hours. Thank you
Hey! Hrmm not too sure.. You can set the temp of the fridge and also separate for the freezing area.. have you checked that? If still not getting cold then might need to contact the supplier.. ours gets cold pretty quick usually within 30 mins when ambient temperature is fairly cool anyway..
What about water getting in from seal as it is now on carpet ..or is it ok
Hi - yes it’s a good point! After I had done it a few people commented about carpeting beyond the seal which was a mistake really.. I since went back and sorted it.. I did a video on some errors I made and things I’d do differently too.. it’s here now f you haven’t seen it 👍 th-cam.com/video/GKJotRfVq4Q/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HL8kK8Zll1pICJk9
@@TransitCustomCamper only because I was just getting ready to do mine lol
@@dean2smith- ah yeah.. I would leave the seal clear to contact with the metal 👍
nice job well done 👍😎
Hey! Thanks for the comment and checking out the video!
Where's the bed?
Hi.. yeah sorry the bed wasn’t in this one.. I did another video just of the rock n roll bed here th-cam.com/video/kUVrw4AwfU0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MbFi7WIZ-DIc9Qv1
Hi, hopefully you'll see this. Is the voltage on the panel on show 24/7 unless you flick the kill switch? Im worried it will drain the leisure battery if i dont use the van very often but didnt want to install such an extreme kill switch. Could you wire the main feed to one of the little switches so thats what switches the panel on when you flick it? Hope that makes sense
Hi.. thanks for the comment! Yes I think the panel would be on all the time without the kill switch.. I don’t think the draw down would be massive but yes eventually I guess could start to drain the battery… I guess you could use one of the switches as a main switch.. or could use a smaller separate switch you can get small single ones.. I’d maybe bench test it before fitting and make sure it’s all good 👍 good luck with it!
@@TransitCustomCamper Yeah agreed. I have one in my bongo that switches from Leisure, Car and Off which is nice and straightforward. But I'm converting a transit custom and want a much nicer/clean finish. Think I'm just going to install an isolator like you have. They look really bulky though which is a shame.
@MazdaBongo1599 yeah they definitely function over form! But also makes it easier to find in the dark 😂 hope you get a good solution you happy with 👍
Great job Very clear… thanks for your efforts ! One question though… what is the big blue lever thingy for in the inlet socket ? You don’t mention it at all, but I presume it has some function otherwise it wouldn’t be there ? Thanks for your thoughts.
Thanks for your comment and checking out the video 👍 The blue “thing” on the inlet is like a clip that secures the plug into the inlet and keeps it secure 👍
Do you keep your smart charger connected to leisure battery all the time and just switch it on at the socket when your connected to 240v ?
Hey.. Yes..It’s connected all the time and when we on hook up usually turn it on to keep the leisure battery topped up. Thanks for checking out the content and the comment too! Very much appreciated and good luck with your conversion 👍
that was a fantastic job.
From where u order these stickers mate ?
Hi mate - I think I got them off Etsy www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1431675913/2x-premium-vinyl-steering-wheel-sticker?gpla=1&gao=1&&CjwKCAjwhIS0BhBqEiwADAUhc1JuG2S5ckOi3XUls9N872xpXkV_8OqLC37HXu9yAOUOZL5EQKt1ChoCEQAQAvD_BwE_k_&:pla-314261241347_m__1431675913engb_102858184&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADutTMfZrfR4-JDktphZcv9ZXsoAK&gclid=CjwKCAjwhIS0BhBqEiwADAUhc1JuG2S5ckOi3XUls9N872xpXkV_8OqLC37HXu9yAOUOZL5EQKt1ChoCEQAQAvD_BwE
Not sure if you know, there’s also a floating wire in there that you can get a 12v plug for 👍🏼
Yes - I was told that too - thanks.. good to know 👍
Looks a bit of a drama to fit, how long did it take you altogether 😊
I think maybe I made it look harder than it is as a complete amateur 😂 I took a couple of hours I think…
Get a Firestick for the TV 🙏🏼
Yes we did in the end - some places we don’t have WiFi of 4G a lot of the time 😂
Do you use the seats facing the rear of the van often? Just found your channel looking for ideas, great series mate 🙏🏼
Have to be honest no not really 😂 I am just about 6ft so my head don’t fit too well.. kids have used em from time to time..
@@TransitCustomCamper my youngest is 6’6” and still growing so that’s a no as well then 😂😂
Where did you purchase the awning rail from?
Hi - I picked it up on Amazon but I just looked and it says not available at the moment? Might be able to get direct or eBay? amzn.to/4eH18mO
This is the same camera dash cam i bought. I bought the van a few weeks ago.. so will install the rear camera just like you did.. exactly what i was looking for 👍
Ah good 👍 yeah it’s been really good.. just one thing I noticed after I had run the wire for the camera it can detach with a connector which I think would make the install a bit easier 👍
@TransitCustomCamper one question: Does the camera get scratched with car washes?
Just came across your channel mate I’ve just bought myself the same van, really not confident with the electrical aspect, great job you’ve done here really high standard
Ah cool mate - thanks for checking out the video and the comment. Yeah I was nervous about the whole thing! Especially the electric side! But once I got going with it the principles are pretty straight forward.. the first time I powered it all on though was still a butt clench moment 💩 😀
@@TransitCustomCamper yea no problem mate I’ve subscribed too, you’re videos will most likely be gospel from now on 😂
I was thinking of getting someone in for this, but thanks you your video I’m going to do it myself.
Ah great Peter! It was the part of the build I was most nervous about but wasn’t too bad in the end! Good luck with it and let me know how you get on 👍
a quick one your widows fitting did you do them your self
No actually that was the one thing I didn’t do! When we first got the van I didn’t want to mess that bit up 😀 So I got a local firm to supply and fit.. Looking back now I would probably give it a go 👍 A few other videos on TH-cam people have done it DIY
@@TransitCustomCamper if you don’t mind me asking did it cost much
@@cbgamer1056- I can’t recall now to be honest I think it was £250?
@@TransitCustomCamper thank you
Hi Dave. I came across your channel yesterday and subscribed as I'm embarking on a similar build shortly. Great content and especially generous of you to share the info regarding pitfalls and mistakes. Just curious as to when the windows went in. Did you do retrofit them yourself of did you have a specialist do them? Thanks and regards.
Hey David - thanks for comment and glad the videos are helpful.. 👍 I had the windows fitted by a local firm. At the time I didn’t have the confidence to do it 😂 looking back now I would have give it a go and not too difficult.. Good luck with the build! Give me a shout anytime if I can help with anything 👍
Lachnummer Golf Luftpumpe
What size mil was the ceiling wood you used. Nice finish
I think it was 3mm ply from memory - thanks for the kind words - yeah was happy with how it all turned out 👍
What size of cable did you use
For which bit?
Hi. Did you screw it in ?
That’s what she said 😂 Sorry… at first no.. but after I put some screws through the plastic feet on the fridge as opposed to the internal into the side of the cupboard 👍
@@TransitCustomCamper cool. That’s what I’m thinking. Cheers
hi, what is the name of the part you used to cover the wires above the window my van was originally a crew cab and came with a headliner which is now removed and the wires are showing but i cannot find the part you have, any help would be appreciated thanks
Hi - I am not 100% sure of the name.. mine already had them.. But I think ceiling wiring loom covers or something like that?
Excellent. Love the humour but how you explained it too!!
Hey 👋 Thanks Terry! Glad the humour landed 😀 but also that it was useful too 👍
Absolutely brilliant.
Ah cheers Paul 👍 Thanks for the comment and checking out the videos 😀
You do know your fridge sw is upside down don't you
😂 Ha yeah.. I did notice after and put it right 🤦♂️ Thanks
This is seriously impressive. Great finish
Thank you! Glad you liked the video and the blind too 👍
Hi i were did you get everything from please. Did you make it all. Or did you buy it as a flat plack and bulid it all. Kind regards Dean
Hi Dean - I got all the materials separately and built it all. I did a video here with a break down of all the items and the costs and where to get them in comments with links th-cam.com/video/yXjvPr94cZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jKPSLOPiGZVCLDZf
Have been watching you camper Van build great stuff I have the very same van and was wondering where did you eventually plug your piggy back Blade fuse?
Hi - I honestly can’t remember the position sorry - I tested to see which one had an ignition feed.. I’ll have to check again 👍
what fuse did you piggy back into?
How did you physically install the mirror?
Hi - I got a normal mirror with a suction cup that attached to windscreen and then attached the camera mirror to that 👍
Hi,we're just about to embark on our own conversion ,swb transit custom. May i ask how many packs you of sound deadening material you used used ? I noticed some panels only had small pieces on them
Hi.. Ah great good luck with the conversion. I think I used a couple of packs. I don’t think you need 100% coverage just around 60-70%.. not sure if you seen it but I did this video on all the materials and costs too th-cam.com/video/yXjvPr94cZA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=BS-3x-ZAPTfg2fDf
Hi loving the conversion . Can I ask if this is a standard transit custom or a long wheel base one. I'm trying to get my partner to think about converting our transit as a retirement project and he thinks his is too small 🤔
Hi! Thanks for the kind comment and checking out the video 👍 It’s a SWB.. We find it plenty big enough for what we need.. but would advise getting an awning too.. We got a Cubo awning and this just really helps make the most of the van and be able to have somewhere to stand up 😀
Oh great thank you and for the info re the awning. He will be thrilled when I tell him about his retirement project 😆
He's a carpenter of many years experience so his skills and tools will all come in handy 😃
Hi I'm planning to do the same with my vw t5 and use ikea schottis blinds. I got 3 of them for €31 shipping included. Did you make the pod surround out of a template. The pods to by online are very expensive £200 each😮 Thanks
Ah great yeah! These are well worth a go compared to the cost of the pods! No I didn’t use a template - I just measured up and then had a few test fits before I got the final fit 👍
@@TransitCustomCamper fair play to you looks factory. What size ply did you use
I always love to have one of these for traveling to another country, i mostly want to take this kind of campervan to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Emirates, that would be a helluva trip for me!
Yeah! That would be one good road trip!
@@TransitCustomCamper yeah, me a Muslim myself, I would love to drive through the Arabian peninsula!
Great work!! Can you translate what I should look for here in the US for the side track?
Thanks for the comment.. Would the US term be conduit maybe? Not 100% sure?
Hi, did you not stuff the supports with insulation isn’t he roof above? I’ve seen others do it but not you. Just wondering why?
No - I didn’t actually! Maybe could have done..Although when I came to fit the roof liner I did add some extra insulation under that also 👍
Where did you get the vinyl table top covering from? Never seen that before, great looking stuff!
I got it from a company called Vinyl Warehouse - it’s been really good since fitted and the van has had quite a lot of use 👍 www.vinylwarehouse.co.uk
