      Thank you for watching. The 7500mah CAPA is the max point that the charger will stop charging. The battery is rated at 6500mah but you set the charger to 7500mah because of the way it charges called "Delta Peak".

    Thanks for the battery vendor tip, will try them once I get this refurbish testing done. At time 8:56 of your TH-cam video “Hybrid Battery Pack Refurbish - Step-By-Step w/ Settings - 2nd & 3rd Gen Toyota Prius - CQ3 Charger” you change from your older red CQ3 to a newer silver & blue CQ3 charger. This newer one is what I have and I am having trouble with the instructions for it. If a test ends with a flashing "FULL" and I press the BATT TYPE button, no cycle results are presented, it just return to the initial screen. What does a flashing "FULL" mean. It apparently is not the same as "CAPA' or END. The instructions that came with the charger say nothing about this. Any help appreciated.

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My silver charger was purchased about 3 years before the red one. I have a video that shows comparison between them. The message "FULL" is the same as "END". Be aware of the buttons when a cycle has ended. If you press the wrong one then you will get no results. The red and silver chargers have different wording on the buttons but the button position for results is the same (I believe the far left button for each channel).

    i read in a different forum that the max charge capacity should be 8500 mAh as a lot of energy is lost in charging through heat and that the delta peak wont often be reached if set below this value. I charged most of my batteries this way without issue as most didnt reach this value anyway, until a cycled a couple of brand new batteries that i was using to replace some faulty ones. i could hear some kind of hissing like air was escaping and was getting worried. do you think i've done serious damage to those brand new modules by "overcharging"?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching. I have been using the settings listed for years without issue. Adjusting CAPA to 8500 provides minimal benefit that I have seen and can leave room for overcharging. When running multiple cycles you can watch the "trend" of mah values on both discharge and charge to determine if the battery is good. The batteries will outgas some when cycling and I suspect this is what you experienced. The best way to know if the battery is still good would be to run cycle with my settings. If you get 5000mah or more on discharge and charge then you are good. Please write back and let me know how they do.

    I've finished a 3-week recon cycle on my Gen 2 Prius battery using the same charger you're using. All but 2 hit 7500 discharge capacity (those 2 made it to 7100, so still good). Problem is only 2 broke 5000 mAh on discharge. 24 are in the 4000 range (some low 4000s, some high 4000s), and 2 are at 3900. If I continue to run more cycles on these lower discharge cells, they always hit charge capacity at 7500 and then the cycle stops without ever seeing higher discharge numbers. Is it time to just rebalance and get it reinstalled? I suspect that any refurb replacement cells I get won't have a charge capacity as high as my cells. What do you recommend?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching. The discharge values are the ones to pay attention to. They will determine the actual "health" of your pack. Since the batteries are in series the pack will only be as strong as the lowest valued battery. This means that if you put the pack back together with batteries that have discharge value of 3900mah then the pack will only have about 56% capacity. I suggest running more cycles until you have minimum 5000mah discharge of every one of them.

    • @dans9629
      @dans9629 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GreggFesto Thank you. I will continue to cycle the modules. But one problem is that they continue to cap out at 7500 and the cycles just stop. Should I increase the capacity setting, or just keep manually starting new cycles on each module hoping that they'll break 5000 mAh discharge?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      If the discharge value continues to rise after each cycle then I suggest to cycle again. There will be a point where the discharge value stops rising and will start to fall back off. There will be a point where the charge value will start to fall off also. If you can achieve 5000mah discharge or better I think you will be happy with the results. If you can achieve the 7500mah charge value at the same time, that's even better. please write back and let me know how your batteries do.

      You are likely to get CAPA message first cycle if the batteries have been sitting for a while. This is why I like to run 3-5 cycles on each battery, it will tell how the battery is health wise by seeing if the discharge value increases or decreases with more cycles.

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I suggest running 3 cycles at least on each battery so you can see if the values are increasing or decreasing. It will give you batter idea of the health. A value of 6000mah discharge on your batteries will certainly be better than 5000mah. Remember that your pack will only be as strong as your weakest battery. For example if you have 27 batteries with 6000mah discharge and 1 battery with 4000mah discharge then you are limiting your pack to 4000mah. This is because they are all in series configuration.

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching. The reason the charger is set to CAPA at 7500mah has to do with the way it reads voltage while the battery charges, you can learn more on this by researching "delta peak charging".

    • @dashbmw
      @dashbmw 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@GreggFestoI read delta peak and that is the voltage drop at full charge. My issue is that the charge stops saying CAPA. So I need to increase from 7500mah to more?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I suggest that you do not alter the CAPA setting too much more than 7500-7600. This setting is keeping you from overcharging the battery and causing damage. The value that you want to pay most attention to is the discharge, which should be 5000mah or higher.

      The time for a cycle will depend on the capacity your battery. Usually 2-3 weeks for whole job.

    2 questions; Why not us dielectric grease on all the connections to eliminate corrosion? And, while the battery is still in the car, shift to N with the ac on (300+ volts) to draw down the battery. Then shift D to let it charge up. Doesn't that balance the modules too? Use and OBD2 like Dr. Prius to see the status of each block (2 modules) to get an idea of what's going on in the pack?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching. Dielectric grease is a fine idea and may help future corrosion. Cycling the battery in the car will cycle the pack as a whole unit which will not address the capacity of each individual battery. I do use dr prius app before doing this service as it enables me to verify that the blocks showing low capacity are the same as the ones I see when refurbishing.

      @@GreggFesto Yes, I understand. But you recycled your batteries and got them up to decent ranges.(the ones that were good). My thought is to do the same thing on the car and then see which ones don't correct themselves. Might save time by having the car do the work instead of doing it on the bench. What am I missing with this logic?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto หลายเดือนก่อน

      When the pack is together the batteries are arranged series. This means that they are charged/discharged together. When charge capacity is reached on the strongest cell of the pack, could be 1 out of the 28, then the charging stops. When discharge capacity is reached on the weakest battery then the charging starts. This is the same way the charger works. The downside of this is the car does not fully cycle each battery in the pack. I believe that each of the 28 batteries you see me cycle is made up of smaller batteries. It is quite possible that only one of these smaller batteries inside of the gray battery has failed causing the gray battery to read as failed therefore causing the hybrid pack to read as failed. Your lowest capacity "weakest" and your highest capacity "strongest" battery of the 28 gray batteries in the hybrid pack will determine the way your cars charging system behaves. Your pack is only as good as your weakest gray battery.

    i'm trying to recondition some old modules that have been sitting on a shelf for a couple of years. Every time I go through a charge discharge cycle, the numbers get worse. My charge numbers all usually make it to 7500 MAH the first couple of cycles, but as I go through more cycles, they end up being in the 6000s. The discharge numbers are usually less than 3000 and rarely improve much or even get worse. Could this be a problem with my charging unit? Or do you think these modules are just too old to recover?

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching. When the batteries have been sitting a while they do as you are describing. I suggest running some more cycles on them to see if you can get the discharge and charge to 5000mah. I have run around 15 cycles on stubborn batteries before. The numbers will fluctuate some and this is normal.

    Hey Greg, great channel. I have configured settings from video, but for some reason it stops after first cycle. I set it to 3 cycles, and when the cell starts blinking “Capp” , I can use arrow button and cycle 2, shows zeros, and it will scroll 1,2,3,4,5, ..all zero’s except #1. I’m still a beginner.. Thanks John

    • @GreggFesto
      @GreggFesto หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey John, Thanks for watching. Sounds like you are having good results. The charger stopped doing cycles because it met the 7500mah CAPA on first Charge cycle. Pay attention to the Discharge mah value and start cycles again. The Discharge mah value should rise each time. When you get to 5000mah Discharge this is a keeper, if you have 7500mah CAPA Charge at the same time then this is even better.

    Gregg, after each individual battery is charged, how long can it sit on the shelf before being reinstalled into the Prius? Seems like the whole process might take several weeks so by the time a person is done charging the last battery, the first one would have been sitting there for a long time. Any suggestions?

    • @GreggFesto

      The Camry batteries should be the same as the Prius batteries. I suggest checking all settings for charger again. Maybe check to make sure the pack has not been replaced before you got it with a pack that is different chemistry. Hope you will write back in and let us know what you determine is reason for not working.

      Did you rerun 3 cycles after checking the settings were correct? You will only be able to read results after the cycles have stopped and you press mode button once. If you press any other button before mode there will be no more values until cycles are run again. If you are using one of the same chargers that you see in the video and it does not work as I describe, you may need to contact EV-PEAK Corporation for an exchange.

      I am not sure why you would get a really low number. Have you checked all the settings on charger? You are setup to discharge then charge, correct? If you see the discharge and charge numbers both start going down through multiple cycles that indicates the battery is beginning to lose capacity and will need to be replaced.
