Spring trout on a Northern urban river - a magical hour I won't forget!

Finally I find trout rising to a hatch of Olives at the end of April - at last river levels are good, its cold but now I feel like I'm really fly fishing!
For beginners I demonstrate fishing down and across on a fast, shallow run, before the action hots up on the next pool along!
Tackle : Shakespeare agility 2, 10ft 4#, floating double taper line, tapered 14ft leader down to 4lb flourocarbon tippet. home tied olive emerger dry fly and gold ribbed hares ear nymph, both size 14.

Yes, you're right there, Paul!
I always wade up the shallows to that pool anyway. It's a problem on much of that river
Trouble with urban rivers is the absence of animal grazing!

Good stuff Dave. Lovely River to showcase your skills! For a chilly April I had more fish than previous years, the 2 wet fly set up coming up trumps. Still to cast a dry. Great info for newcomers 👍

Too kind, my man! I don't think anybody else fishes that pool! The only public access is a fairly long walk and wade to get to it!
I don't normally do well on smooth water like that, but it helps that you can keep your distance on a bigger river and use a longer leader. I wonder whether the cold air was keeping those olive duns pinned down a bit longer than usual (like when it's drizzling?) The rises were very gentle, like small fish, so they were obviously taking their time!
I'm dying to try a stretch in another park higher upstream, given the average size there must be some real bruisers in there! Speaking of which, my next video features a real brute from the irwell! 😊👍

Thanks, fella! Yes, I always look out for them at church fairs, car boots, etc, usually around a fiver with an old line and backing, which is often OK too!
You may see it tested hard on the next vid, where a dull day is livened up by a big old brownie!

Crackin bit of Fishing Soul Brother...Love watchin your vids, it,s becoming my Sunday morning ritual..lol.....I went down tou our local river last night to check out the feel of the place..But it looks pretty quiet and has a milky look to it, not much action at all..Just hope it hasn,t been polluted AGAIN...Keep up the Good work Soldier....

Cheers Gaz. The river Irwell I fish has some cracking trout, always a milky caste in it, from sewage works upstream. Lots of fly life and obvious good feeding for the fish, if its 95% treated sewage its purer than farm run off on the fields.
Good thing from my point of view, the dog walkers are reluctant to let their dog swim in it due to the grey colour of the water! Some awesome trout coming on my channel soon!! 😊👍
