Edinburgh Castles, Beaches & Woodland - A Mindful Moments Film from Edinburgh, Scotland
The power & convenience of Artificial Intelligence (and the reaction to Apple's latest advert) got me reflecting deeply on why I spend so much time filming and creating videos - is it really worth spending all these hundreds of hours creating videos that (by TH-cam's metrics) are an abject failure - and will very soon be created in seconds (and much better) by an AI computer?
It's an interesting question, which we'll all have to increasingly ask ourselves as AI takes over the creative industry - and most other areas of our lives! How much of our humanity do we want to give away? Will the future be as much fun if we all just sit at computers? Will we even see as much of each other? Will AI art be as therapeutic? (better stop with these questions, before my mind gets too scrambled with the enormity of it all :-)
We have short lives and it's always wise to consider where we deploy our precious hours on this planet - so does it matter if we just let computers do it all? Will it make us any less creative if we just have different tools at our disposal, albeit digital one's?
Last weekend Taylor Swift played to a record-breaking Scottish audience at Murrayfield Stadium. I really like her and think she's incredibly talented, but do I think she's the best singer and artist around? No, probably not, there's others equally as talented, - so what has been her secret to success and world domination? She's been very savvy with technology and a great businesswoman, which has undoubtedly powered her to commercial success. I can see a future, not far away, where she will play by hologram in major stadiums around the world simultaneously (think the ABBA 'Voyage' concert digital avatars down in London and multiply).
Lots of questions, which reflect the huge disruption that technology has brought in my lifetime and AI will advance exponentially.
So here's why I think we'll stick with preferring the output and creativity of humans - It's in our hearts, and in our minds, where creativity lies in all of us - a drive and obsession to create and express ourselves that's insatiable and magical that can never be stopped. It flows out of us in the most chaotic and unexpected ways, that a computer will never be nuanced or disordered enough to consider, in all its flaws, silliness and eccentricity.
Humans create because they have to - it's the purest means of expression and vital to our health & wellbeing. Whenever we're lost for words - there's always a way to say it in art - and that's why we'll all keep creating and saying what's truly in our hearts & minds - we have to - it's being human and utterly compelling. AI will just be another means of expression - we'll just have to work out how much of us we give it, so we don't lose what makes us human, vulnerable and wonderfully eccentric & spontaneous.
So, is it worth all the long hours, stumbling about the countryside filming - yes - because, like a lot of people, I often don't know how to put into words how I'm feeling - all the pain, sorrow, joy and confusion we bury deep, comes flooding out in the art, videos & photos we take - It's quite a beautiful thing and what gives us our souls, our spirituality & individuality.
So whatever you're creating - don't let anyone put you down. The meaning (and fun) really is all in the making and not the metrics or going viral.
I'm certain that if it all stopped for Taylor Swift tomorrow, she'd still be playing in her local pub - getting just as much meaning for her writing and playing, and maybe, just perhaps, even enjoying it more.
If it's in you, get on with it - be bold - be courageous and pour your heart out :-) We have beautiful souls and creative spontaneity - computers don't (at least not yet - yikes!)

Finding Peace at The Loch on a Rainy Day in Scotland - A Mindful Moments Film
มุมมอง 26014 วันที่ผ่านมา
Really hope you enjoy this wee film & you'll excuse me getting a little reflective - When I was young, it was stuff that I thought made me rich - now it's knowing where the local badger sett is, seeing where the roe deer slept last night and the perch the kingfishers love to fish from on my local river - all these things help me accept myself and inform me why I'm here. To be able to get out of...

The Edinburgh Photography Tour - Capture The City With a Local
I put my abstract painting on hold, but I am motivated by your reasoning to start afresh. Thank-you.
Thank you David for such a wonderful video! You presented for all of Us beauty of yours amazing country, I get desire to be there at this moment to catch all that beauty beauty with mine own eyes! THANK You
G'day David, your Videos take me home to my roots. Who needs AI when you have Scotland.
Another beautiful piece of artistry, David! This is Kit, your American friend moving to Ireland in the fall -- and looking forward to an Edinburgh tour in the new year! Keep up the gorgeous work!
Hello David, greetings from London. Lovely video, the lambs, flowers, trees just all so refreshing to see. Love bumble bees. Simplicity in photos is the best, like the leaf on the water. Music very apt, thanks for sharing, God bless, Janet.
Hi David, Beautiful video that only a human being, not a machine can create. Sure, AI can create but what it creates is artificial like its name says-Artificial. What you create comes from your heart, soul and mind; your caring and compassion. A machine has none of those qualities and can't even appreciate what it has created. Your creativity is a blessing given to you that can't be deleted like we can delete a program from a machine. Keep on doing what you're doing and let your human creativity keep shining brightly. Take care and be well.
Beautiful work David! I love your low angle dolly shots through the foliage like at 01.53 and particularly at 04.13. I share your passion for heading out into nature with a camera. Even if our work is to be replaced by AI in the future (god forbid!), nothing can take away the pleasure we get from this. Keep up the great work!
Nature seems to be the only language I know just now, but it's a lovely place to be 🙂 Really hope you're all well and a big, heartfelt thanks for watching, all the best, David
Great vid, David. Lovely shots
@@RuairidhMason Thanks so much Ruairidh, hope you're well, it's great to hear from you. They're not very popular, but I love making them and I'll keep going as long as I can 🙂 Be great to meet you one day. All the best, David
Coffe shop no1 is my fathers coffe shop. Lovely video!
aww... lovely - thanks so much for watching. I'm there regularly to see my parents and always enjoy the wee shops and the lovely surrounding countryside. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Best wishes, David :-)
Love your work David
Thank you - really appreciate it. I don't get many views, bit I still love making them -) All the best & thanks so much for watching, David :-)
Definitely one of the best videos I have seen on Stirling. You've captured it so well! We will be there in summer and certainly looking forward to it. I noticed lots of rain in the video, hopefully we will have better weather! 😂
Thanks Kamin, that's really kind of you and much appreciated. It's a wonderful city to visit and you'll thoroughly enjoy it. The castle is fascinating and the actors really help to bring it alive. I'm afraid the weather is always unpredictable here in Scotland. The summer has been very wet and cold this year and very unseasonable, but hopefully it'll get better soon :-) Just bring good, comfortable shoes and a rain jacket & hat and you'll be fine in the spring/summer and a few thermals in winter. The country and its cities really do look good in any weather - the light is amazing for photographers and it adds a lot of visual appeal. Have a great time when you visit. Best wishes & thanks, David :-)
Has Edinburgh Street cats?
Can anyone please tell me where is that extraordinary layered stone sphere? On video shortly after the geological information centre. Thanks!
Hi Linda, thanks for watching :-) The sphere is a short walk along the path from the visitor centre. The views are wonderful :-) Best wishes, David
Beautiful job you guys. It musta been magical. My sister and I are traveling there from California in early October. Is this a doable trip that time of year? Can you recommend lodging in the area? Thank you any insights you have. So looking forward to this adventure. A bucket list for a long time. Be well. ❤️
Thanks so much Teena, really glad you liked the video :-) I can never guarantee the weather here in Scotland. It's been really wet and cold lately and that's in June in mid-summer ! So my best advice is to have the right clothes. A rain jacket, hat and good walking shoes is essential, whatever the time of year. For accommodation, have a look at the Visit Outer Hebrides website - www.visitouterhebrides.co.uk/accommodation Have a wonderful time and thanks again for your very kind comments - it's much appreciated. Warmest best wishes, David :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Yeah, I completely understand the iffy weather aspect. I have all the above to get me through. I was more concerned about snow that far north. My son’s GF lives in Glasgow and I have a few friends that live in the the Dorcet area of the UK and their biggest complaint is the grey. 😂 Believe me, it was 104°F here yesterday, highs of 75° F suit me better. 😂 Be well my Scottish friends. Travel well. ❤️
If our paths ever cross I’m thinking a pint is in order. ❤️
Absolutely beautiful! So peaceful & tranquil! Such captivating scenery, filled with lush green foliage, pretty flowering bushes, elegant Swans & other intriguing wildlife! Also captivating, is the soothing sound & scenes of the falling rain on the water, with closeups of tiny raindrops on the leaves. This makes it all even more magical! Finally, the accompanying 'Celtic' sounding music you chose here is very soothing, as well as, hauntingly beautiful! Thank you for sharing another delightful experience David! Blessings to you!
Thanks so much Annie - you're always so kind :-) I loved making this one. It's so much harder filming in the rain to keep everything dry, but it was a lovely afternoon and very serene. I always wish I could take longer to film these, but maybe one day. Hope you have a lovely week and thanks, as always, for all your kindness and support. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland My pleasure David as always! This wee gem certainly was serene! I loved it! Short & sweet! All that's needed! LOL. Have a lovely day! Blessings!🦢🦆🌳🌞
brought a tear to my eye bud!! currently stuck on Mallorca, but used to live up near Salen Bay for years... MISS IT SO MUCH!! Hoping 1 day soon I can return.... still have a place and a boat up there.... U never know how much u miss a place until you leave! everyone I ever meet here says i am so lucky to live on Mallorca!! To me, it's like a prison!!!!
As always David , you have captured a wonderful sense of serenity showing nature at its best even in the pouring rain there is so much to enjoy from the ripples in the water to the incredible raindrops clinging on to grass , l always feel better after watching your videos , many thanks for your dedication filming these remarkable scenes and the profound message in the description which is so thoughtful and honest !.
Thanks so much Aidan, always really appreciate you watching and all your very kind words. Getting out and about in nature is something I really enjoy and is so therapeutic. Hope to do a few more mindful moment videos soon. Thanks again for all your kindness & support, best wishes, David :-)
Fantastic so relaxing to sit and enjoy
Thanks so much Harry, so glad you found it relaxing. I'm really lucky to have all this on my doorstep and I'm always astounded by all the wildlife there is so close to home. Hope you have a lovely week and thanks as always for watching. It's much appreciated. All the best, David :-)
Thank-you so very much. I have had some heartbreaking news, yesterday, and your insights, your kind words, along with the beauty and serenity in your filming are balm to my soul. I believe you were speaking to me, an angelic guidance that was most needed. I too, feel a safety in nature, my true self. I am grateful to the person you are.♥
awww... that's so kind of you and I'm really sorry to hear you're going through a difficult time. I'm really glad my little loch video gave a you a few moments escapism and I really hope things better soon. Take good care of yourself and a huge thanks for watching. Warmest best wishes, David
Beautiful film David! Pleased to see that you have been getting out there to film despite the run of rubbish weather we have had recently. Beautiful words too. I really hope you are doing well.
Thanks so much Richard - always deeply appreciate you watching - I have enormous respect for all the amazing films you make and your support is always deeply appreciated. Things have been a bit up & down lately, but my camera is aways there to take my mind off things and get me out there 🙂 Hope you and all the family are doing well and it'd be great to catch up with you soon. Take care and keep making all those amazing videos - they're absolutely brilliant :-)
I'll be spending a month in this beautiful little village next year. I appreciate your take on it! Thank you!
Thanks so much for watching - it's a wonderful town and I'm sure you'll thoroughly enjoy staying there. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)
Beautiful David, even wet days can be lovely as long as there is no wind. Love the pond with the swans and Liburnum tree! Great place for being alone with your thoughts.
Thanks as always for watching Maxine. It's a wonderful wee loch, close to my home, and a great place to escape to for a few hours of peace & quiet. I had pretty wet feet by the time I got back, but it was definitely worth it. I did also see a Heron, but I wasn't quick enough to film it, but hopefully next time. Hope to be back with another video soon. Hope you have a lovely week, David :-)
What wonderful thoughts!
Thanks so much - I really appreciate it. Best wishes, David :-)
Hi David, The peace and tranquility of of being surrounded by nature on a a rainy day is amazing. A wonderful way to de-stress and forget the trials and tribulations of every day life. Thanks so much. Take care and be well.
Hi Mike, hope you're well and thanks for watching. It's a real blessing having all this on my doorstep. When we moved here about 15 years ago, I don't think I realised just how important all the lovely countryside and amazing wildlife would become in the years ahead. I really am lucky. Take care and have a lovely week. All the best, David :-)
Absolutely beautiful image at 25 seconds. The raindrop seemed to act as a lens on the blade of grass. Nature is the healer for sure. I once went walking in a storm and the energy was such that I totally forgot all my troubles and went home drenched but grinning. Thanks for posting.
Thanks so much and I can definitely relate to your own experience in the rain & thunderstorm. It really can take you into a different world for a wee while and put things in perspective - especially when faced with the raw power & majesty of the natural world. Hope you have a lovely week and thanks so much for taking the time to watch. All the best, David :-)
Wonderful video David realy beautiful I loved the raindrops on the buttercups, the reflection of the rhodedendrons in the loch and flag iris I love all the close ups of flowers and very nice music. I was, so lucky to have a badger set at my previous house in the garden, they'd, come, with they're cub to the kitchen window when I rattled they're pot. I couldnt leave the kitchen window open or the woodpecker would come in the kitchen I'd to hide the biscuit barrel as both the woodpecker and Jessie the squirrel realised that's, where the nuts, were kept
Hi Anne, hope you're well. Wow, your previous garden sounds incredible - a real haven for wildlife. To have nature so close to you must have been wonderful. We have a Badger sett quite close by and I have seen cubs emerging as the light fades, which is amazing. I feel like I know every inch of the countryside around my home now which is funny, because when we moved here I never really explored. I hope to venture afield soon to explore other parts of the country and try to mix things up a bit. Thanks again for all you kindness & support - I really appreciate it :-) Best wishes, David
Thank you so much, David. Great video, as always!
Thank you so much for watching - I really appreciate it. Hope to be back with a new video soon. Have a lovely week, all the best, David :-)
Really hope you enjoy this wee film. I got completely soaked making it, but enjoyed every second. Thanks for watching 🙂 Best wishes, David
I was at the Castle today, raining and crowded. Thanks for showing me what was hard to see with the crowds.
Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about all the rain just now - it's really unseasonal for this time of year. Hope you have a lovely holiday. All the best, David :-)
Beautifully filmed. My late husband came from the Kyle of Tongue, his grandparents are buried in the churchyard there. I've been a frequent visitor to the village for many years. Thank you for sharing this.
Thanks so much Barbara, that's so kind of you and much appreciated. It's a wonderful part of the country and my heart very much belongs there. Your husband was very lucky to grow up in such a beautiful place and I'm sure you must love going back :-) I always find it incredibly relaxing & peaceful and can't wait to return. Thanks so much for watching. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)

Hi Harry, hope you're well - thanks for watching, I so appreciate it and hope to have another video out soon. I'm in full swing with work just now, but will burn the midnight oil and try to get through some of my backlog. Have a lovely day. Best wishes & thanks, David :-)
Beautiful vibrant flowers and a wonderfull park! I see you have some broom David. Pretty , but not encouraged here. . Spreads like wild fire.😊 came from over there.
Thanks so much Maxine - really glad you enjoyed it :-) Scotch Broom is native here, but I didn't realise it was invasive in the states, that's really interesting - I wonder how it got there? We have real problems with Rhododendrons here, especially up north, but they do look lovely! Thanks so much for watching, always really appreciate it. All the best, David :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland Hi David, not sure if it was Broome or Gorse . Gorse has prickles , and was bought to NZ in the early days by the Scots for fencing to keep the sheep in. Both have lovely yellow flowers.
@@maxineblick451 I'll have to check my notes Maxine, I know I've filmed both. They do look a bit similar 🙂 Thanks again for taking the time to watch - really appreciate it. Best wishes, David
I especially enjoyed the various images of the sunlight coming through the trees. Also, who doesn't love a bluebell wood.
So happy you enjoyed these scenes. We've had some gorgeous sunsets in our local woods recently. I was out the other night filming and hope to feature more in a video soon :-) The Bluebells were particularly wonderful this year and I really enjoyed spending time admiring them and relaxing with a flask of tea & a sandwich - bliss! Thanks so much for watching and have a lovely day. All the best, David :-)
Thanks
Thanks so much Paul - that's so kind of you and much appreciated :-) If truth be told, I probably run the channel at a terrible loss, so every penny helps and is hugely appreciated. Keep up the good work 👏
Thank you Paul - much appreciated :-)
Thank you for sharing this beauty with us. :)
Thanks so much - I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. It took a few weeks to film - I think there are ten different locations, but it all came together eventually. We're so lucky here to have such a lot of beautiful gardens and woodlands to enjoy and it's always a joy to have a wander and see all the colours and beauty evolving :-) Hope you have a lovely day and thanks for watching. All the best, David :-)
Evening David. Another gem. Hope you are well and life and work are good. Thanks for a lift needed just at the right time. Keep safe.C.
Hi Clive, hope you're well and you're enjoying the warmer weather and lighter nights. It's a joyful time of year and I especially enjoy the luxury of being able to explore & film after work. I'm very behind due to a few health issues, but very relieved to be feeling much better :-) Health is truly your wealth and I'm grateful for every time I can go out with my camera. Take good care of yourself and I really hope to meet you later in the year and to thank you in person for all your kindness & support. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)

awww... thanks so much Rosita - that's so nice of you and much appreciated. These videos are a real labour of love and it's so nice to know people enjoy them - it makes it all worthwhile. Take care and have a lovely weekend. All the best, David :-)
Absolutely beautiful from beginning to end! Every single scene you have filmed here gives such peace & tranquility. With the pretty bright & colorful Spring flowers, lush green trees & foliage. As well as, the sparkling & shimmering waters. This all brings so much joy to the heart! Also, accompanied by such a beautiful & very moving Song which you chose. Finally, in closing, that breathtaking deep orange Sunset. Spectacular! What more could we ask for? I would definitely say...''Not a thing!' Thank you for sharing another truly delightful experience David! Blessings to you!
You are such a kind soul Annie :-) Thanks for all your very lovely words. I would love for these films to be better, but as a one man band I often only get time for one take. I'm really hoping one day to be able to film over much longer periods and have the luxury of dedicating myself to one project for much longer. Maybe one day.... Thanks so much for all your incredible kindness & support - it really does give me a huge boost. Behind the scenes has been a bit difficult lately with health & work and it's lovely people, like yourself, that help make it all worthwhile. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Best wishes & thanks, David :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland Awww! Thank you David! I'm so glad! Your kind words & appreciation means so much.'Tis always a pleasure to watch your beautiful wee films. They are delightful. I'm sorry to hear of your health & work issues. I do hope & pray that the Lord will touch you & bless you in every way. So you will be to fulfill your hopes & dreams to be able to film for even longer. With the caliber of your films though, 'less is still definitely more'. The fact is, you pack more substance & quality into your wee films than anyone. Thank you again for taking the time to film & to share all of this beauty with us. As well as, for your kind appreciation of our Comments. Have a lovely day David! More blessings to you!

Excellent video! Loved it!
Thanks so much - so glad you enjoyed it. The spring here has been so beautiful, although it's a very dreich and wet day today! Have a lovely week and thanks for watching. All the best, David :-)
Thank you, David. I’m sorry to hear of your health issue and the time involved. I know you’ll get to Glasgow video when you can. My wife and I are visiting Glasgow before we eventually come to Edinburgh for our tour date with you in early August
Thank you so much for booking a tour - really looking forward to meeting you both. You'll really enjoy Glasgow - I absolutely adore the place and it's full of hidden treasures - not to mention the truly incredible street art. I'm hoping to complete my new Glasgow video soon - hopefully within the week. Have a wonderful time and see you in August. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)
Weren’t you planning an update on Glasgow?
Yes, I'm sorry about that. I started editing it a few weeks ago, but unfortunately fell unwell and ended up in hospital - a long story! . Life's been a bit of a whirlwind since, but hoping to get it published soon. I should have a mindful moment film out soon though. Best wishes, David :-)
Outstanding! Absolutely beautiful from beginning to end! So peaceful, tranquil & soothing. From the beauty of the scenery, the flowing waters, lovely Spring flowers & bushes, lush trees & foliage to the cute animals & wildlife and the charming & rustic old Church & Churchyard. This was all truly delightful from beginning to end. My favorite scene. if that is even possible here, was the cute & quirky wee Pony prancing around & frolicking in the sunshine. Just so happy & carefree. Delightful! Aye! 'Tis so true! Only you, David, who have such a beautiful & lyrical soul, could not only see, but capture, all of this beauty in one amazing video, and in only eleven minutes! Along with being accompanied by such beautiful music. Incredible! Thank you for sharing this truly delightful & captivating experience! Blessings to you!
awww, thank you so much Annie - that's so kind of you :-) It was a really lovely film to make, it took a wee while, but worth it in the end. The wee pony has a friend now, which is lovely, and they both career about the field now at high speed! I've not been able to film as much as I'd like lately, but I've a few I'm steadily editing, which I hope to have out fairly soon. Hope you're well and you have a wonderful week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your kindness - in a topsy, turvy world it really keeps me going. Warmest best wishes & thanks, David :-)
@@DavidWheaterScotland My pleasure I'm sure! Aye! 'Tis truly a 'topsy turvy world" That may now be an understatement! Oh my! So, thank God for the lovely interludes we can share with folks like you who capture His beautiful Creation in all its glory. So happy to hear that the cute wee Pony has a friend to frolic & play with now. Sweet! I will be looking forward to your next film. Have a lovely day David! Blessings to you! 🐎🐎🌳🏵🌞
