Can't Get a Permit for the JMT? Try Mono/Parker Pass
If you are having a hard time getting a permit for the JMT, try getting a permit of an alternate entrance that will connect you to the JMT. For example, on this hike (only a section hike) we got our permit for Mono/Parker Pass and then connected to the JMT near the Devil's Postpile. We could have connected at Thousand Island Lake if we wanted to.
About the Hike:
Trailhead: Mono/Parker Pass
Connection Point: Joined the JMT near Devil's Postpile
End Point: North Lake
Steps to Get an Alternate Permit:
1. Visit www.recreation.gov/permits/445859
2. Select "Explore Available Permits."
3. Search for Mono/Parker Pass and reserve your permit.
This alternate route offers stunning views and a fantastic hiking experience, making it a great option for anyone wanting to experience the JMT. Enjoy the video and happy hiking!

Council Mountain Idaho - Longest Hike For Crappy Snow

Council Mountain Idaho - Longest Hike For Crappy Snow
I’m going to be riding Council Mountain for the next two winters. I got a splitboard shop/art studio in Council. Let’s rid it in powder conditions.
the parts where the sun is behind you showing your shadow moves is just amazing !!!! nice work Dan
In the 1960's my dad and friends climbed the grand teton. My dad had a heart attack almost at the summit. His friends left him there in a sleeping bag and climbed to the summit and they got him on the way down. He was a great climber.
Great suggestion. Do you have a copy of your trail map? 🤙
Do you have access to my email. I can send you a screenshot of our route.

Yes that's exactly what we did in 2020 Mono/Parker was fairly simple. Later on we were able to get Donohue pass permit. But knowing we had a route no matter what was crucial. Great advice Dan!
I'm laying in bed watching this because I couldn't sleep, and now I'm exhausted! Stunning terrain, I'm with you, turn for turn!
This was amazing to watch while baked
I've been watching ski and snowboard tuning videos for a week now, to make some money this winter in Chile, and this is by far, THE BEST of them all, I really appreciate it, thank you.
Dan, I really like your 12er Videos. How did you determine when conditions were right for an attempt on a particular peak? Say Mount Leatherman. Appreciate your insight.
Watching this from France. I only skied once 30 years ago for a week. Loved it but never did it again. I am now 48 but just decided I'll do it again. And I'm starting by watching your video. Watched for 30 mn and am now heading to bed with those wonderful feelings in my mind and body. I am already skiing again. Thanks to you.
Thanks!
Amazing! Thank you so much.
What Month he attempted the first try, and also, what’s month he thinks is the best for tackling and running the course ( no setting any course records here)
Just found this, great video! Much respect on the solo quest into the Church. Here’s a video we made on a similar traverse up in north idaho a few years ago th-cam.com/video/hkhaJFQ944g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lFXFeNUOaEKbGY-w
Why one pole for the traverse?
cause the other is used to film myself. It's behind the camera.
@@DanNoakes I don’t get how that is done, but I thought it was something like that. The camera (GoPro? subtracts the pole from the picture?). I do a lot of BC skiing and figured you wouldn’t do one pole without it being part of what you were doing to make the film.
@@at1970 You have a gopro camera mounted to your pole with a pole attachment. You stick the pole on the ground. Press record. Walk past your pole with the gopro recording. Stop. Walk back to the pole. press record again to stop the recording. Then you pick up your pole and continue your hike.
@@DanNoakes Wow! That’s not the high tech thing I was thinking it was. That’s amazing. I can never get anybody to hold still for pictures so I just blast away with the camera while it’s happening and it looks like it. Of course everybody is interested when you get home in seeing themselves. You obviously don’t have that problem by yourself. Well done. I saw that you were a Wasatch guy. I live in Idaho now but was a skipatrolman in the Wasatch decades ago when we toured on cable bindings. Fond memories. Best skiing on earth. But as the old timers say, unfortunately they know that. Utah is what Idaho will become if we dont realize more people does not make for a better lifestyle or save nature. Be safe.
I did the Grand via the Owen Spaulding route in 1987. Thanks for bringing back some awesome memories!
i have only ever skied in the alps for my whole life (13. years) and i can't wait when i grow up and then be able to go places by my self and ski in the USA, can't wait for my first chest deep experience!!
I totally recommend spending time in Alta, UT and get into backcountry skiing. You will definitely be able to get first tracks and some chest deep days there. Good luck to you! Thanks for your comment.
@@DanNoakes thank you so much for your suggestions!! I'll have to wait until I become 18 and get my own skies! I hope to explore the world and skiing the most interesting places, I love skiing. keep doing what you are doing!! I look up to you :)
Where are these vids taken? I don’t recognize the area.
what gopro mounts do you use?
Thank you for this. It’s pleasing my ski bum sweetie who is fighting cancer right now. We need the ski sounds - excellent 🔥❤️🏆❤️🔥
My condolences. I hope your sweetie is doing alright. Please send them my support and love.
Is that verbier?
I love this. In the description, did he mean to say "mesmerizing" instead of "memorizing"?
Good catch! I just changed it.
I ski in 90% of my time in the occidental Alp... Courmayeur Chamonix.. Etc.... Powder❤ Sun❤ Emotions❤ Lifestyle❤❤ ❤
Fantastic 49:00.... A good feeling.... I ski in Italian occidendal Alps in 90% of my time... Ski❤ Powder❤ Sun❤......... LIFESTYLE ❤❤❤
great video. are you the guide for this peak?
Dan do you have Instagram? Also where are you based out of when you ski?
I don’t have an instagram account no.
@@DanNoakes bummer would love to follow you on that. COuld learn a lot about your decision making in the mountains, what gear you use, and a bit more about you!
Mid, easy line no air at the end
This is why I wanted to have my phone at ski camp
Looks pretty chill compared to hundreds of other chutes I’ve seen
This got my heart rate up there when I saw this during your ICT episodes.
Bro has some balls of steel
Wow, I’m born and raised in Colorado, I can “get down” double blacks but the way you are so casual and smooth is so impressive.
Also, that little cliff you hucked in the beginning was amazing dude. You are who I dream of skiing like.
I'll pass I'll leave that to idiots
I don't think so
Looks fun
F that
That’s insane 😱
You got some balls bro hahaha damn!
I don't normally like or watch shorts but I can't stop watching this one! Great warning for all of us who fantasize about this trail. I'm definitely not starting till the creeks are much lower!
Ghetto
The context seems to be: Mining Rights on their property
Hawaii National Park is destroying the Jaggar Museum. And keeping the public bathroom.
No context
They are erasing history to make the cleanup easier after the reset.
Great documentary!! Very sad to see, about as bad as the US gov poisoning alcohol during the exhibition, killing many citizens. Or as bad as deporting over 300,000 Americans that were of Mexican decent, Most had been citizens for generations. Then the Gov took the property/ ranches of these families from all over the West coast. Before the 1% took over control of our Gov, the Gov did extremely ignorant atrocities. Especially to Indigenous peoples of color. Now we have the 1% wanting to get rid of ‘common folks’ while they continue plans to go to Mars. This Government has been out of control since the beginning. The 1% does what they want, and they force politicians to do their bidding. No President has real control.
Thank you. I appreciate you watching it
so the government, say, at Lincoln has pretty much sucked and wanted to get rid of people, like the Indians. Ok, seems clear now.
