  • If you are having a hard time getting a permit for the JMT, try getting a permit of an alternate entrance that will connect you to the JMT. For example, on this hike (only a section hike) we got our permit for Mono/Parker Pass and then connected to the JMT near the Devil's Postpile. We could have connected at Thousand Island Lake if we wanted to.
    About the Hike:
    Trailhead: Mono/Parker Pass
Connection Point: Joined the JMT near Devil's Postpile
    End Point: North Lake
Steps to Get an Alternate Permit:
    1. Visit www.recreation.gov/permits/44...
    2. Select "Explore Available Permits."
    3. Search for Mono/Parker Pass and reserve your permit.
This alternate route offers stunning views and a fantastic hiking experience, making it a great option for anyone wanting to experience the JMT. Enjoy the video and happy hiking!

Yes that's exactly what we did in 2020 Mono/Parker was fairly simple. Later on we were able to get Donohue pass permit. But knowing we had a route no matter what was crucial. Great advice Dan!
