Struggling to get outside? This is the hike for you ‼️
Easy Hike With Stunning Views | Lake District 🏔️ ☀️
I spent a few days in the Lakes to be around the mountains whilst I had some work to catch up on and decided to check out Loughrigg Fell, a local fell to Ambleside.
I’ve always overlooked Loughrigg as its a fell that’s tagged on with some longer walks I have planned for the future but I wanted a quick hike to get outside on what promised to be a stunning day.
I really enjoyed this hike which started out really atmospheric with thick fog and low cloud ascending up in the fells with an awesome view below. It’s a brilliant 15km circular route which promises lots of great views and is just what you need to get outside.
My big hikes and overnighters will be back on the channel soon, but for me just getting outside at the moment is the most important thing and this really did deliver.
I hope you enjoy the video. Stay tuned for next week for the return of a hike which has it all….mix of weather, scramble, epic views, summit camp and some strong winds and rain 🤘🏼
Summits:
⛰️ Loughrigg Fell (335 m)
Route Overview:
• Start: From Ambleside YHA, follow the lane towards Under Loughrigg and cross Scandale Bridge.
• Ascent: A steady climb via Loughrigg Terrace offers stunning views over Grasmere before a short but steep push to the summit.
• Summit: Enjoy 360° views over the fells, lakes, and valleys-on clear days, you’ll see Helvellyn, Fairfield, and the Langdales.
• Descent: Drop down towards Rydal Water, where a short detour leads to Rydal Caves, a fascinating old slate quarry.
• Return: Pick up the Coffin Route or the riverside path along Rothay Park to return to Ambleside.

❌ FROZEN OUT ON HELVELLYN ‼️ | Solo Winter Snow Wildcamp Fail Awesome solo hike back in the Lake District and back in the snow. I went with no plan, just to get out in the snow and embrace the conditions and bring back in the hills. I did plan for a wild camp but had an unexpectd problem not being able to peg the tent! I took 3 types of pegs too and pitched up initially but could only get the p...

Hi Chris great little hike there nothing better than getting out like you said beats sitting about the house can I ask were did you get gas can canister stand from please
I will go for a wildcamp or hike with you Kris 👍🤟⛰️⛰️
Great video👍 Been up the llanberis trail on my Ebike but this has inspired me to have a go at walking up this year!!
Lucky. You were so close to chinning yourself on that rock mate. That could have been nasty. Glad to see you laughed it off though. Do be careful though folks and let someone know where you're going, your exact route and when you should be back at the latest just in case so they can alert mountain rescue if you get into a spot of bother. Might be an idea to put the camera away when you might need your hands to climb or steady yourself in future. Just stick to the chest cam on tricky sections. We all trip and fall sometimes though. I remember on the way down from ben nevis i nearly slipped and fell near the waterfall crossing. Luckily i caught myself in time because I'd have probably broken my legs if not. I laughed it off but it shook my friend up a bit because he saw the whole thing and wouldn't have been able to get to me in time if I didn't catch myself and hang on because he was about 10 or 15 metres behind me. I consider myself quite a competent outdoorsman and hiker but that day tested me a bit, doesn't matter how fit and experienced you are anyone can have an accident. You always think it'll not happen to me but that day reminded me that im not invincible and it made me more careful especially when doing stuff in the mountains. British mountains aren't that big but you shouldn't underestimate them and our weather can make a twisted ankle into a pretty severe situation if it decides to start throwing it down with freezing rain. So always make sure at least one trustworthycand reliable person knows to call for help if you're not back. Godbless, Godspeed and safe travels.
The "stone circle" looks like it may have been the remains of a burial cairn.
Great little route mate its the start of 100 miles around the lakes, did it back in april last year😊 try the chocolate and ginger stem sauce from Sarah nelsons its great for dipping the ginger bread in and that gate is already on latches and locks 😂 great video as always ❤
Interesting to see a beginners hike sir here
Great video again mate
Great video mate and very informative 👍 I've struggled with depression and anxiety for over 30 years, and couple of years ago I took up hiking and wildcamping, best thing I ever did, and absolutely love going to Grasmere and Ambleside, definitely the best medicine for the mind 😊
Lol 😂 glad you're okay mate
Lovely walk kris.👍
Really glad you are all right. That was scary, for sure.
Another great video
these are the ones you will never forget!
Brilliant mate love this 😎
Great video as usual Chris. I think lots of people struggle these days ...maybe it's modern life? I find the best way is not to think about it just do it ...get out there and I can 100% guarantee you will not feel worse only better. It's a thing not a lot of people talk about which probably contributes to the problem....
What tent are you using Kris? Looks decent, long too, would suit me for my lanky body 😂
Another great video kris, thanks for sharing.
Great Video Kris 👍 Loved Your honesty & You guys made us laugh as well ❤ I mentioned that Bushman owes you a few beers 🍻 But I bet you are glad he didn't cook up one of his one pot Camping stove hamburger specials 🙏🤣😬
Loughrigg Fell is stunning. Not my first Wainwright but the one that made me start bagging. Content is bang on lately. A great watch after been at work all day
... the only way to do Pen Yr Olwen is straight up the guts from Ogwyn Cottage ... its a lung bust the whole way ...
Great video Kris... Never been to a YHA, I tend to sleep in the van ready to be ready for the adventure the following day. It just means you don't get to mingle without other like-minded people. Sarah Nelson's Gingerbread is the best! Always get some when I'm up the Lakes 👌🏼
Hi mate i thought i was already subbed so new sub here mate love your content, keep up the good work mate. Atb Wullie
I've just watched you adventure again, and when you and All were walking knee deep in snow, it took me back to my childhood in the 50s and 60s. We used to walk approximately 3/4 of a mile to and from school just like that. Kept coats on in school because the heating conked. No soft stuff for us because most of our parents went to work, so they relied on schools for their kid's safety. They couldn't afford to stay off work because they didn't get paid else.
Would love to walk in the Lakes District but Tasmania is a little too far 😀😀 Rarely take my stove on a day hike but always have a small thermos with coffee and a cake of choice when I take a break.
I would be really interested to find out what you take on a day hike I always end up taking too much also great vid just getting out there and good advice about being in the area you want to be if you struggle to get yourself going
Great video Chris thanks ! What make is the orange jumper ? Looks great
Awesome once again Kris, truly an inspiration. I too suffer with my mental health, and I'm hoping to start something similar as a result of your vlogs. I'll perhaps might give the orange hiking pants a miss though 😂. Keep up the fantastic work 👏 👍.
Great video enjoyed watching struggle to get out myself keep your videos coming 😊Jeff.
Hey Kris, that was a nice little walk, and yes I enjoyed it very much. there are a few short trails very close to where I live that I have walked many times, just to get out to clear my head and sometimes it's just as simple as walking from my house 2 miles to the river and sit there and have some coffee and then head home. your right, it really helps a lot. Dwayne
The walk was great Kris, what I enjoyed as much was the conversation,I felt as through I was with you ,ps don’t forget the pot handle modification you did
Hi Kris, great TDM videos! I’ve been struggling with heel pain (at the back, not underneath) and was looking at the Timp 5 for hiking due to its zero drop and hoping that a new foot position might help. What heel pain did you suffer with prior to using them? Thanks.
What a beautiful presentation my friend! Shots are so nicely executed here! Love it
Its good to hear other people suffer with mental health, i do too and some days dont feel like going out, but once im out its a game changer - thanks for keeping me motivated pal.
Great to see you back pal! Brilliant video. Could listen to you for ages. Top bloke👍👌
Great video Kris. I believe you deserve more subscribers and can't understand why you haven't, you keep the content interesting and enjoyable, I think it's going to happen. I love when you said you didn't want do the double orange then pulled on an orange hoodie, though it was good to see Kevin the Carrot out too 😁 Keep up the great work mate and stay safe.
nice video enjoyed it
Over 5k subscribers 👍🏻 brilliant mate, at this rate it will soon be 10k 🎉 brilliant video with lots of info thrown in too 👍🏻 take care Kris 🥾⛺️🗻
Great hike kris 😊
Loughrigg Fell is a underrated day-hike especially when starting off from Rydal (taking in the Cave) adding in Silver How before dropping back down into Grasmere for a stop at the Gingerbread Shop and then finishing the walk along the river back to Rydal.
Well said and exactly that! Didn’t have time to stop at the gingerbread shop on the way back from the hike but the next morning I went and bought 12 pieces haha. Lovely around there though.
Lovely wee video pal. Great to see you out. Beautiful conditions too. My favourite little walk from Ambleside is just above Ambleside to Lily Tarn. Lovely 👌🏻🙏🏻. ATB bud
Cheers Dave, it was just good to be out and Al I had time for as had a lot of Photography work to edit. Glad I went though as stunning weather and views that day. Don’t think I’ve been to Lily Tarn I’ll have to check it out. See you soon bud let’s get on a camp soon.
You've got the work leasure balance right.😊
Cheers Marty, definitely trying to. Must admit I couldn’t even hike last week though as couldn’t even afford to get out so it’s definitely a fine line.
Fair play for being open about your mental health Kris. I've had my own problems on and off for years as well. Over the past year or so, I've come to realise that once I was open with people about it, I found out how many others struggle as well. I'm a bit like you in the sense that I'll go out for a few weeks on end hiking, then stop for months. and there is no better feeling than being in the outdoors, I genuinely believe some people are just naturally happier than others, but we all have our own problems. Good to see you getting a few videos out over the past few weeks mate, keep them coming!
It's great to see back out on your adventures. It is always nice to get away and have some time for yourself. Self care is always important. I worked on an archaeological dig, years back. It was on the Yorkshire coast. We used to have RAF jets flying by regularly. I'm sure that they used the strip trench as a landmark. We would wave to them as they flew by, and they would tip their wings in response. Murray from @ScotlandsMountains might be jealous of the orange trousers.
Great video and well done on getting out !
Cheers Tom really needed this hike and camp and so glad I made the effort to go as tough as it was
@@krisgleave I feel ya dude. Sometimes we have to push through to get great rewards ! 👍
