DIY platform bird feeder, almost no tools required! (10 minute build)
Here's a really quick DIY birdfeeder you can probably build for free out of scraps around the house. Some birds are ground feeders and will only eat at platform feeders. Birds like dark eyed juncos, and mourning doves.

      My craftsman house was a catalogue kit house. The original trim was Doug fir, which isn't that easy to find anymore except as framing lumber. So in the spirit of restoration, I used Monterey pine (P. radiata) which is sold as "select pine" in most US stores. It has a similar grain to the historic Doug fir, and no knots like cheaper pine. Obviously, if you're not going for an accurate restoration you could use whichever wood you prefer. :)

    I know this is an older post and I'm not sure if you changed this setup... can you please tell us what the GPM and PSI rating for your pump? Also, are you running 12v or 110v?

    • @GordBuildLab
      @GordBuildLab 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Same setup still works great. 1) The pump I used (and linked) claims 3.3GPM and 45 PSI. You could buy a beefier pump if you have the power (i.e. 120v wall vs 12V battery, see next answer) and if you don't mind listening to more noise from a beefier pump. 2) I run 120, it's a house so I just plug it into my wall. But I don't see why you couldn't wire it for 12v if that's what you have. I have not tested this though.

    I see below many people are complaining about not being able to insert wires into the switch. If you stripped the sheath from the old wire and you find that the wire is stranded type (not a thick single wire) then it will be difficult to push the wire into the switch because the stranded wire has no strength. You will have to coat the stranded wire with solder to bind them all together. Now the soldered end will have enough strength to be pushed into the switch.

    I remember using your videos quite a bit while assembling my machines. The OEM instructions left a LOT to be desired, especially by this guy spoiled by PRUSA assembly guides. Unfortunately, even after extensive upgrades in the years since, It's still just not reliable and consistent enough for filament you can trust. Maybe if you used ONLY 100% virgin material pellets, but certainly not if you want to recycle material, which is what most people buy these things expecting to do.

    • @GordBuildLab
      @GordBuildLab ปีที่แล้ว

      It's still cheaper with virgin pellets. I basically never used these thanks to CoVid. You tried recycling? What was the problem with your prints from recycled materials? Really curious!

    • @ggaub
      @ggaub ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GordBuildLab A little cheaper, but once you account for the work you do to keep the thing running, let alone building it and getting it working, not so much. Yeah, my intention was to get it going for recycling, and I did. But, the problems were too numerous to continue. The biggest issue is that there's no "smart" tool to measure and make adjustments on the fly to maintain consistent diameter. Coupled with the anemic motor and atrocious auger and pipe combination, getting consistent filament out of inconsistent re-grind is just about impossible. Even when I did get usable material and could ignore the inconsistent diameter, it had adhesion issues. If you check my channel, I have a playlist of my filament recycling videos.
