FTGU#1323 Farming and Rain
In 2024, Larry Hoelscher, a farmer in western Falls County, faced significant challenges due to relentless rainfall beginning in April. Over the span of six weeks, Hoelscher says he had over 20 inches of rain. The severe weather included a hailstorm on Mother's Day that severely damaged his crops. This year's constant unfavorable weather contrast with last year's exceptional harvest. Hoelscher, reflecting on the previous year's success, expressed his disappointment as he anticipates most of this year's harvest will be fit only for animal feed, which sells at a much lower price. Despite the economic losses, Hoelscher remains optimistic and is already preparing for the next season, accepting the weather as it comes.

I tried crushed eggshells on my small pond and it doesn’t work. So I did a 95% water change, and made sure to pour it slowly as to not disturb the substrate. The new water was a lot clearer then. Finally I topped it off by adding aquarium water conditioner. Now can see through the bottom of my pond again 😊

Beef is so expensive that we don’t buy it anymore. As a hay farmer I cannot sell my hay for what I have in it. Fertilizer is way too expensive. Feral Hogs are my biggest expense. Hogs destroyed one hayfield completely. Adding miles of net wire to keep the hogs out is very expensive.
