Jones highlights the fluctuation of water productivity across different regions, stating clear water, while visibly pleasing, may lack in productivity compared to green water, which supports healthy aquatic life. Despite its less appealing appearance, green water is more helpful for fish growth, due to the crucial role phytoplankton plays in a healthy aquatic ecosystem. To increase productivity, Jones suggests using fertilizers or high-quality fish food, to promote fish growth while also improving the water.
