I wish I had built this CDI unit earlier, the unlimited DC CDI!
In this video I'm gonna show you how to make a DC CDI box for your motorcycle.
Custom DC CDI unit designed for optimized ignition performance in motorcycles. Tailored for both sport and street engines, this high-performance CDI enhances spark strength, providing faster starts and improved engine power.
📌One of the advantages of this CDI, DC CDI,is that it produces a stronger and more stable spark, leading to complete fuel combustion, This results in better fuel efficiency. Another benefit is that it can be installed on multi-cylinder motorcycles (with slight modifications). Additionally, this CDI is compatible with both DC and AC-powered motorcycles, and it can even be used on fuel-injected motorcycles.

📌Transformer Specifications:
Given the high frequency of oscillation (above 150 kHz), ferrite core transformers are utilized. A compact 13mm EE core transformer can effectively perform the task, although handling such a small component may be challenging. A slightly larger core can also be selected. For windings, use enameled copper wire: 0.33 - 0.38mm for the primary (L1) and 0.20 - 0.25mm for the secondary windings (L2 & L3).
Primary Winding:
Start winding from pin 6, make 22 neat turns in the direction shown, and finish at pin 4. Cover this winding with transformer tape.
Secondary Winding:
Start from pin 1, make 140 turns in the same direction as the primary winding. Tap at pin 2, continue for an additional 27 turns, and end at pin 3. Once finished, cover the winding with tape.
Assembly:
Assemble the two EEs, leaving a small air gap between them. To achieve this, a tiny piece of paper packing can be used. Finally, secure the two EEs together with tape.
⚠️An important point :
1,the transformer is the heart of the circuit. If the transformer is not wound correctly or if the winding direction is incorrect, oscillation will not occur, and the circuit will not function.
2,For better testing, the ignition coil should be connected in the circuit.

I have 3 yellow cables, which have 110 vac between them, how do I connect them? Which one do I take as GND and which one as AC? These 3 cables go to the regulator that delivers the 12 VDC. Will it not be damaged if I connect one of those cables to the CDI to GND? If you can explain this, I appreciate it.
Greetings, dear friend, The three yellow wires you mentioned indicate that your stator is DC-based and not related to the ignition system. If you plan to use a custom CDI, you need to build the newer version, which is DC-based (refer to my latest video on the channel) To understand this better, I recommend watching my videos on regulators and identifying different types of CDIs (available on the channel) Best of luck!

Hi ,my friend Primary winding (diameter 0.33 to 0.38 mm): 0.33 mm is approximately equivalent to AWG 28. 0.38 mm is approximately equivalent to AWG 27. 2. Secondary winding (diameter 0.20 to 0.25 mm): 0.20 mm is approximately equivalent to AWG 32. 0.25 mm is approximately equivalent to AWG 30.
@MrWolfDiy Muchas gracias Amigo excelente tu trabajo
Hi..plz share your mail id please
I have watched a couple of your CDI videos. I would like to know, if any of the CDI’s that you have made will work on a 1978 Honda CB400T? Aftermarket CDI’s are expensive and if yours will work, I will build one. Thank you
Greetings friend, Yes, it is usable in models equipped with a CDI ignition system.♥️🙏
Thanks for sharing details ❤p
My pleasure 😊
Cdi Ac .
2 stok cdi batri × no .strt
❓🙏
So if I do four of these i could run it on my 900k camry?
Hi, This circuit can be used in multi-cylinder engines with slight modifications (I will demonstrate in a separate post). It is possible to use one CDI unit for every two cylinders. However, using it in cars requires careful consideration, as the revolution in car cylinders varies, and the ignition timing differs
This guy just have brilliant ideas and build the best cdi. I build one of his adjustable cdi's and its stil running and peeforming well 👍👍👍💯🎯
Thanks for your positive input ♥️🙏
Good day mr wolf. Can you please develop a drumband cdi with chaser ic. Thank you
Hello, my friend. I haven't done this so far, and I'm not sure about it, but I will research it🙏
Sweet what max rpm would work with
Something around 10,000. The transformer plays a significant role in spark power.
@MrWolfDiy nice so in theory of I put a bigger transformer I technically should get a higher max rpm?
A transformer is effective in ignition power. To achieve higher RPM, a microcontroller version with a capacity exceeding 20,000 should be used
@@MrWolfDiy ohhh understand thanks
Hi, nice work, congratulations, but if you want to connect the stator pickup to a scooter, does it always remain connected externally to the flywheel? On the stator plate? From the video I see that you connect the spark plug coil and the 12v electronic control unit to the battery but I don't see the stator pickup connected..
Hi, Yes, to operate the CDI, a pulse trigger is required through the pickup trigger wire. In motorcycles, this is done by the pickup as the flywheel rotates. However, I used a permanent trigger circuit for the stimulation, which I didn’t show in the video because it wasn’t related to our topic.
@@MrWolfDiy AH, I UNDERSTAND SO YOU USED ANOTHER ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT CONNECTED TO THE CDI THAT YOU MADE SIMULATING THE ACTUAL STATOR PICKUP, FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND..
@@MrWolfDiy so you simulated the stator with pickup and flywheel of a scooter with an electric trigger directly by connecting this self-made cdi
@@MrWolfDiy Does this CDI have a limiter? Is it ok for a fixed advance stator or also for a variable advance?
Yes, you can use it.
Lets say that ive a cranckshaft position sensor that feeds a microcontroller. Then the micro is connected to your circuit... would it work for an one cylinder motorcycle?
Yes, typically, precise programming needs to be done for the chosen microcontroller to determine the timing of the spark at the right moment. However, it is also possible to perform this task without a microcontroller. Your crankshaft position sensor can exactly perform the function of the pickup in a motorcycle, triggering the CDI to generate a spark on each revolution. But it requires precise installation and accurate timing adjustment, and you might encounter some challenges.
Wonderfull, can you use one of those old style cylindrical coils that were used in cars before 1990's?🐞
Thanks ,If you mean the Ignition coil, (which is cylindrical in shape and its wire is connected to the distributor), then yes, it is possible to use a car coil as well.👍🙏
It's is great video and great information you have shared. But I have a question. If this thing continuously sparking. It is not good . Is there any timing or something that will work when connected to the bike.
Hi, The ignition continuity is triggered based on the engine RPM by the motorcycle's trigger. Normally, this is not the case, and I tested it by triggering it with another circuit.🙏
Well done, great food for thought!
Thankful 🙏
where is the rpm limiter? 😭
As I mentioned earlier, (in the future) I will create a microcontroller version that includes a dedicated limiter. It requires coding and obtaining some components, but it will definitely be done in the future.🙏
@MrWolfDiy ok i will wait
Can I use a ready-made transformer? what are the parameters of the transformer? Greetings, good man
The performance of this type of transformer is different, Everything you needed to know about the transformer is explained in the video and Make sure to read the description as well.
Os felicitó tío!!
you welcome 🙏
Is there a rev limter in the circuit? Can you make a cdi with a adjustable rev limiter too?
The microcontroller version includes a standard speed limiter, which I haven’t built yet. However, I will cover it in future projects
If you’re going the microcontroller route, let’s have the rev limiter and a switched lower rev limit for launch control ( could use a strain gauge or a micro switch with this lower limit for quick shifts). As always good work, keep it up.
thanks bro Nice project
Welcome
Would be really good for you tell us the process as you progress. You clearly are very talented.
Thanks 🤗🙏
Hi ... Can you make cdi for twin cylinder 2 stroke engine? Thank you
It depends on the type of motorcycle. If your motorcycle uses two separate pickups for each cylinder, you can use a separate CDI unit for each cylinder. However, it ultimately depends on your engine.
@MrWolfDiy plz share your mail id
Can you make 4 phases?
Having more phases is not related to the ignition system. Please explain more clearly so we can understand what you mean،🙏
@@MrWolfDiy I know this one is timed for engine, would voltage drop if would be several more phases srom stator?
@11T872 No, the number of stator phases is for the motorcycle's charging and lighting system, and it does not affect the voltage. Typically, motorcycles with more than three phases have DC power and do not use alternating voltage at all. The ignition system operates with the battery.
Can I use this cdi for twostrok twin cliender java 350
Hi, If your ignition system is of the old contact breaker type, it needs to be upgraded to CDI, which requires replacing all the ignition components, such as the ignition coil, flywheel, stator, and others. However, if your motorcycle is a later model already upgraded to CDI, you can use this CDI, but be aware that the performance of your motorcycle may change. A more thorough examination is needed.
@MrWolfDiy already upgrade to cdi . Single CDI with double ignation coil running is good but one cylinder sport plug is damaged frequently
Hi, If your motorcycle has two pickups, you can use a separate CDI unit for each cylinder. Since this circuit is designed for a single cylinder, If you are using separate CDI units for each cylinder, the trigger angle for each CDI must be adjusted according to the position of its respective cylinder and the required timing. The trigger angle is a crucial factor in synchronizing ignition between cylinders. Precise adjustment improves engine performance, increases fuel efficiency, and reduces wear on components. good luck
@MrWolfDiy thank you
Thank you showing this video very informative.
Glad it was helpful!🙏
Hallo saudara, sy sangat terkesan dgn cdi buatanmu, apakan cdi itu bisa digunakan untuk mobil yang masih menggunakan platina sebagai trigernya ? terimakasih saudaraku..
Greetings dear friend, For old carburetor engines, you can use a CDI. However, there are some points to consider: 1. The CDI must be DC type. 2. You will need one CDI unit for each cylinder. However, it is possible to use one CDI for two cylinders as well. 3. Timing must be precise. A crankshaft sensor is required to trigger the CDI so that the spark occurs at the piston’s top dead center. In general, it requires skill, interest, and enough time for proper testing.
Привет ты хорошо два разных резисторы запаял куда вставлять не показал на плате и схема номинал нету куда соединить?
Hello, Pay attention to the diagram; it is clearly shown there. The diagram is included in the video.🙏
Where i can place a tripod to make it have rpm limiter?
The RPM limiter is a separate circuit that is added to the CDI. I will teach how to build it in future projects. However, if you use the 12-degree output from this cdi, you will have the RPM limitation.
@@MrWolfDiy but how?
Can you please do an AC two stroke CDI where you can use a trimmer to set rpm limiter and a switch to enable and disable it
I’m planning to build a CDI unit specifically for two-stroke motorcycles, and if possible, I’ll add those features you mentioned. Coming soon!
Hi, I built one CDI as your sharing. It works fine. However, when I rode for a while, the engine was shutdown and can't start up again using this CDI. Not sure which component on the CDI is easy damaged? I would like to fix it. Please kindly advise. THX.
Greetings friend, It is likely that the thyristor has been damaged due to overheating. You should use an appropriate heatsink, and also, the capacitor value should not exceed the thyristor's maximum rating. The nominal voltage is 600V, but typically 250V to 450V is suitable. Another point is that the circuit is sensitive to short circuits, so after testing the health of the circuit, it should be placed in a plastic box and immersed in epoxy resin glue until it is completely dry. The procedure for testing a thyristor with a multimeter is as follows: 1. Remove the thyristor from the circuit. 2. In normal operation, the thyristor should behave like a diode. 3. Connect the multimeter probes to the two terminals of the thyristor. If the thyristor is healthy, it should show low resistance (around 0.6 to 1.5 volts in diode mode) in one direction (from positive to negative) 4. In the reverse direction, it should show high resistance (infinite or very high resistance) 5. If, when connecting the multimeter in the reverse direction, it still shows low resistance, the thyristor may be damaged. and Check the diodes as well.
@@MrWolfDiy Hi friend, Thanks for your generous sharing and suggestions. You are a very experienced. Like your youtube channel. 😀
You're welcome, I'm glad I could be helpful to you, thank you!♥️🙏
can it be used on a vespa classic?
Hi and welcome, In some Vespa models from the 1980s and later, which are more advanced, CDI can be used: Vespa PX 125 and 150 Vespa T5 Vespa Cosa And a few other models... But Older models also have the capability to be upgraded to CDI.
@MrWolfDiy Yes, I mean the Vespa px150, thanks for the information
@@MrWolfDiy sorry, how about the durability?
the essence of all CDI units is this very circuit. And Some may be more complex and have higher or lower power. Its durability depends on the originality of the components and proper assembly. Using a suitable heat sink for thyristor and insulating it with epoxy resin adhesive contributes to its longevity. Even if it does break down, there’s not much to worry about, as the cost of making it is very low.🙏
@@MrWolfDiy yes, thank you very much, you are very inspiring 🙏
is this AC? can it be installed on DC?
Hi, This CDI works with AC power. The DC version will be released soon.
What a muppet 😂
A reasonable solution, but not terribly well implemented - Have a look on line for some idea's on how to actually solder and circuit board design using Perf Board.
Thank you for sharing your opinion.🙏
