I like watching Popeye the Sailor Man when I was a kid.
Just watched the latest episode. Loved it, as usual. When you were a sailor, did you spend time on a ship? Out at sea? So cool. Thank you for an excellent podcast.
Your blanket is going to be amazing. Love the Sailor yarn.
That is amazing that you were once a Sailor. Thank you for the chance to win that yarn!
Thank you for another informative episode. I can't wait to see your squishy hat finished next time. The swearing like a sailor yarn is a beautiful blue with red accents!
Stitched Together had some great colorways, hope she dyes again someday!
That yarn is gorgeous! That would make a great hat for a sailor.
I love a good sailor in uniform!,
My dad was a sailor and would look great in those colors.
I always enjoy your podcast. You have been bringing interesting insights on yarn as well as your approach to knitting. I would love to hear more about your experience as a sailor.
I'll post a picture in the community tab! :)
My vote would be the campsite cardi, as the other one reminds me of a matinee jacket I knit for my daughter around 30 (!) years ago. I've also been eyeing off the campsite shawl. Looks so interesting! My uncle is a sailor, and currently living on his yacht. He had a near miss with a whale a few months ago. It zigged when he thought it was going to zag. He sent me some pretty incredible photos. Wonderful podcast as always. ❤ Tamantha
I've got that campsite shawl in my favorites too. And I can't imagine getting a chance to see a whale, but I did get to listen to them in the Navy.
Sailor. Sailor is beautiful and you make beautiful socks or musselburgh. Both are on my make 9 for 2025. ❤❤❤
Since I know what the Christmas Eve cast on yarn looks like 😄 I vote for the long sleeve sweater. That sweet pink one is right up my alley, I am all about soft pink. It looks like something I would wear whilst lounging on a boat being calmly manned by an experienced sailor.
Both sweaters are so pretty, definitely want to get in both eventually!
Making socks from targhee wool has been on my list! The sailor color is amazing! Great catching up on your projects!!!
wait….i want to hear more about you being a sailor!
I'll post a picture on the community tab! :)
I won some Targhee sock yarn and was an instant convert. I love the plushness and roundness. Another enjoyable podcast, Sailor.
❤️
Sailor…..what beautiful colors!
My mom knit my son a Mary Maxim puppy sweater when he was young and it’s now being used by the grandkids. I imagine she enjoyed the challenge! My dad was a sailor just like you. I always enjoy catching up with you on the podcast. You are an inspiration!
I love looking through the different Mary Maxim vintage patterns, just wild. Thanks for watching!
How did a sailor end up in the middle of the country? :)
It's where I started from. :) Not too far from where I grew up here. But I had a great tour, 2.5 years in Wales, 3 in Hawaii! :)
Love your projects! Interesting that you were a sailor! Keep knitting and teaching.
Sailor. I love that color.
I love how you put the yarn together! Adding the black mohair really makes it cohesive.
I need to post the picture of the 5 skeins together before I started, it's back in my Instagram somewhere. I really lucked out having them all in my stash, and the black definitely did the trick to pull it all together.
Thank you for your time making the podcast. Swear like a sailor is pretty!
Swear Like a Sailor is amazing yarn!
I’ve watched your videos since you began and you’ve given us another interesting episode, Anna. Glad to hear you are acquiring lots of new subscribers. I like the way you knit all different types of knitwear and I’m amazed at how you can choose just the right pattern for your yarn picks. I’m afraid I would get lost on Ravelry for days and make myself crazy trying to pick a pattern. I wonder if your training as a sailor taught you how to make such decisions.
The Navy training combined with math probably keeps me on track! :)
@@theyarnrandomizer 👍
Your Sailor yarn s lovely. Your brioche shawl is looking awesome!
Swear Like a Sailor is Beautiful!!!
I would also vote for the Campsite Cardi. I made a blanket a few years ago (not as big or as detailed as yours) and when done, I put it in the clothes dryer on the steam cycle (medium heat) and then removed it before it went through cool down. Spread it out on the bed, and gave it some gentle redirection and waited for it to dry. Seemed to work pretty well. Your new pink hat looks great with the sweater you were wearing. Can you share the recipe you made for Thanksgiving?
That's a good idea on the blanket! Just enough to get it to relax and dry easily. I use Alton Brown's Sauerbraten recipe and his Mash Potatoes recipe - they both are top notch! Thank for input on the sweater choice!
I’m so excited for you to finish your blanket! It’s coming along so nicely! It’s so cool you used to be a sailor!
I get motion sickness 🤢 but lived on a sail boat in my 20's does that make me a sailor? 🤣 amazing knits!
Funniest part of it I was a sailor who never went to sea! So you have more boating experience than me probably. :D
I am envious how fast you knit, I am so slow! My father was a sailor on the Nimitz.
I am fascinated that you were a sailor. I have 2 brothers who both had over 20 years as sailors. They had some interesting experiences.
I hunted submarines during the Cold War from shore facilities - I really liked it. :)
I vote the campsite cardigan:) I think it is so pretty. I’ll admit, I swear like a sailor at times, but alas, it happens.
I have really enjoyed watching your podcast ever since I discovered it about a year and a half or so ago. I've watched you grow in your presentation and I'm fascinated by your tidy and organized process for dealing with projects and stash. All this to say, happy holidays and I'm looking forward to another year of random yarn. BTW, I am not one, but I have been swearing like a SAILOR for most of my almost 60 years, and that yarn is stunning. I'd be delighted to have it if things work out that way.
Happy holidays to you too! Organizing things is my happy place. lol
I just love watching your wips grow. I got got 3/4 of my musselbrugh done and realized it was too big as well, frogged it back, and started again. I would love to hear a bit about when you were a sailor, so cool!!!
I'm looking forward to another Musselburgh, such a portable fun knit! I hunted submarines from shore stations during the Cold War - in Wales and then in Hawaii - I loved it!
I love how you randomly pick your yarn for projects, definitely keeps it interesting. Intarsia is not my favorite type of knitting; I am excited to see you finish that sweater! Swear like a SAILOR would be a wonderful addition to my stash! Thank you for sharing your knits with us.
I wish my apple a day kept the doctor away over thanksgiving but we all came down with the early winter virus:( the unicorn yarn is fantastic!
That tool advent is too cute!
They are awesome, this is the 5th year getting these for him, and the tools get used on the regular in his shop! :D
I'm watching this a month late, but homestead is really pretty! ;)
It's too bad she isn't dying yarn any more, she did some lovely colorways.
I really enjoyed the way you structured and delivered the whole lecture! Thanks a lot! And since this pattern is quite simple, I tested an automation for this process with the paid version of Chat GPT. It returned both the Python code and CSV file in a decent manner. I initially provided the pattern as an image and the text recognition went smoothly, but chatGPT won't allow me to share chats with images so I copy-pasted text for another version. The prompt was like: "I will ask you to do arithmetics to calculate stitches in a knitting project. First, you have to interpret a knitting pattern. It will be given as a text, image, or a pdf file. Second, you will calculate the number of stitches of each row and the cumulative progress compared to the total number of stitches (expressed in percentage) using a python script. Finally, you will show the result in a table format and provide the csv file of it. The columns should be: row, stitches in each row, cumulative progress in percentage. Ok?" This is the link of the chat but I'm not sure if it will display the code and the table: chatgpt.com/share/6742702b-8384-8006-b815-27ea6eb02859 Anyway the result is quite satisfying!
If you can open the code section from the chat, do have a look! It's quite nicely done. Here's a part of it: # Section 3: Row 3 repeats until 4 stitches while current_stitches > 4: current_stitches -= 1 # Row 3 decreases stitch count by 1 rows.append(row_num) stitches.append(current_stitches) cumulative_stitches += current_stitches row_num += 1
It wasn’t until I finished binding off my first Ranunculus sweater and my second Emotional Support Chicken that I realized just how much you’ve influenced me! 😂 I totally binged all your episodes from the very beginning!!! LOL + I bought some apples, star anise, and cinnamon today and made delicious Glühwein. 🍎🍷✨
This is the best way to be a bad influence! :D
Hi, I'm wearing one of my 2 City Limits jumpers as i watch. I did have 3 but retired (chucked) one as it was getting so tatty. I have varied the side panels on mine, just to prevent total boredom. I haven't bothered trying to make any of them reversible, mainly because mine were made using lots of minis so all the ends are now inside 😊 Love the vest you are wearing, such a nice texture to it
I've been wearing my City Limits tons, definitely tempted to make another! Highly recommend the vest patter!
Are you still working on the Farmhouse blanket? I checked Ravelry and it looks like it might be snoozing. I think I heard you say something about fiddling with 4 strands of yarn to marl together was annoying. You probably already do this, but when I am combining any yarns I first wind them all up together on one cake. It's much easier in my estimation. I also slide all the strands through a bead to keep them together when coming off the cake. Sorry if this is old information!
I haven't worked on it in a while, but the plan is I work on it if the yarn for it is picked from the randomizer. I have a bunch of National Park themed yarns for it. Thank you for the tips! I may try that on the next skein that comes up for it! :)
