Overweight, over fifty and over-opinionated. I rarely wear makeup, and am often very grumpy about things. I have opinions. So many opinions. So I'm here to share all these highly offensive opinions about witchcraft with you, you lucky people!
All Pagans Will Tell You This, But IGNORE IT!
I've had a glass and a half of Malbec on a Sunday night. All bets are off!
Today I'm talking about:
Witchy Aesthetics: RITUAL BATHTIME! (and what a Lush Bathbomb tastes like)
Meat & 2 Potatoes: The one thing that all pagans bang on and on about, but you should absolutely ignore

My Favourite Solstice Carol by Grumpy Old Crone (aged 54 1/2years old)

I promised I'd get this video done - this is my all-time favourite Winter Solstice Carol. The tune was written by Nigel Eaton and the words by Iain Frisk, and released under a Creative Commons Licence, this is the amazing "Halsway Carol", and is sung by me and the lovely Mr Grumpy Old Crone (AKA: Chris). The challenges of multi-pane video and audio mixing got the better of me, so this one is pu...
"Violent Night". A Grumpy Old Crone Solstice Parody
มุมมอง 1.2K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
We love to think that Christmas is cutesy, cuddly and filled with fluffy good cheer, don't we? Well it's not. All over the place, the Solstice (bleeding into Christmas) is full of terrifying traditions. What could be more festive fun than threatening your children with kidnapping, eternal damnation, disembowelling, being eaten alive and encountering a reanimation animal skull at the front door?...

We Brits love to claim that we invented Christmas. That is, obviously, a steaming heap of doodoo. I will also point out that neither did the Americans. Or the Christians, actually. So welcome to a brief tour of why Christmas isn't particularly Christian! Or traditional! (whatever that means...) New Zealander here👋 strong black leaf tea, in a teapot! 🫖 With a bit of sugar and oatmilk. Not a fan of herbal tea....to watery for me. Great show today, love it
As a Lush customer of many years, and having a condition called Pica, yes I have licked many, many bath bombs, soaps, solid shampoo and conditioner bars, and I've swigged shower gels aplenty. If it smells "edible" I have to try it....and luckily the staff in my local Lush shop are used to me by now!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I believe that three-fold rule is completely made-up and as useless as scary drug control policies. What kind of a witch is not aware that you can't be creating without destroying, and the cycle of destruction and creation is endless and unmoral? One in a lush bath bomb bath, and bless her soul, but I'm not interested in taking an actual ritual with them. Even in a bath.
I'm with you on the herbal teas😂. Sad sap that I am, I've tried hard to like them (why?!). They make me want to puke, though, so it's PG for me😊.x
Happiness: seeing a notification you posted. Contentment: taking half an hour of my day to watch you! Thank you!
I order bulk herbs online and make my own herbal blends at home. And I've just prepped a bunch of lemons today for future tea: peels in the dehydrator and juice in little cubes in the freezer. I don't think of it as a relaxation thing, it's just stocking the pantry and doing a bit of food prep. Waiting for the kettle to boil is probably a good time for a bit of mindfulness meditation, though. Edit: i forgot to say, when i put herbs in a bath I use a fillable tea bag or a small cotton bag, to ease the clean up. It's like a big tea with me in! I also call bath time my "soup time," because i feel like I'm in a big soup.
I took herbalist classes and I use herbs a lot in my work - a proper boquet is not easy to concoct, and the taste heavily relies on the quality of the herbs. Most store-bought mixes are as tasty as hay, even for the most fragrant herbs like mint and lavender.
I totally agree about the ritual baths. I see all these photos of ritual baths with half a florist worth of flowers floating in the water and so many candles round the edge that I don’t know how you are supposed to get in 😂 and surely the flower petals stick to you when you get out 🫢 I was thinking about “karma” the other day and it really annoys me that people spout on about how when something good happens to someone that it’s because they have done something good and that it’s “coming back to them” 🙄🙄. If they believe that, do they also believe that bad things happen to people because they deserve it. Life just doesn’t work like that, bad things happen to good people and it sucks. So glad you’re managing to lose yourself in a book to escape reality, it really is the best.
"Missed Potatoes" is a whole vibe and could be a great name for a band.
I just wanted to pop in and say that you are quickly becoming one of my favorite creators on this platform. Your videos are so delightful to listen to and I really appreciate what you’re putting out into the world!
This is the video that made me subscribe to your channel. Sooo awesome and keep up telling the truth in your hilarious way. I love it! Thanks so much!🤘🏻
Annie, I love you and your channel! However, I will stick with my "green" tasting tea that I make with the herbs from my garden! I find personal enjoyment in crafting my own blends and I find the "green" flavor to be quite nice! 😂❤️❤️
Organizing ideas is one of the things AI is worst at. When I start hearing repeated sentences, I know I'm listening to AI and move on.
There's a story about a farmer whose son broke his leg right before harvest. "What a disaster!" everyone said. "He won't be able to help you get the crops in!" But the next day the emperor's soldiers came through the village, conscripting every able-bodied young man they found. "How lucky for you," the neighbors told the farmer, "that your son can't be drafted and marched away to fight and probably be killed!" But the very next week... You can see where this story is going. I meditate on it every time I believe something is Good or Bad. Right & wrong, in contrast, is something we ourselves understand about our own actions, and our right to judge each other's choices, and others' right to judge ours, is limited.
If there was karmic justice Genocide in Gaza would not be happening.Zionists would be empathetic and not attempting to wipe out Palestinians.
I don’t have baths anymore but I did used to notice that sometimes that lush bathbomb stickiness used to transfer to my skin. Also, nothing says cleansed more than steeping in your own mank to me personally but I totally get why people do it :)
sea salt hair is not nice😝 great video, licking a Lush bath bomb🤣 My son bought me some Radox bath soak. Heavens knows what they have done to it, it is not anything like it used to be and I was not relaxed after it at all. Wine, essential oil and candle light is far better but I'm a shower girl these days, takes far less time and I can read in bed without dropping my book in the bath water.😀 Every action has a reaction but the rule of three has puzzled me. 3 snowflakes, how true. The hoar frost in south Warwickshire on Saturday was a real treat to drive in though the fog, not so. Meditation tips would be nice. I struggle to switch my little voices that bounce around inside my head. The, they are just thoughts ,let them go. I didn't ask for the thought and once it's there I can not just forget it. Forget where my keys or phone are is dead easy though best wishes and enjoy your next book😃
The wand is absolutely stunning! I am definitely interested and heading to his shop now. Thank you so much for sharing! Wow!!!
The 3 fold law feels very… Christian. Ick! Fear mongering, too. I’m studying herbalism and have heaps of plants for potion and medicine making. A good cup of herbal tea properly made is delightful!! I stopped using bath bombs and turned to making bath salts and milk baths so the essential oils are incorporated. I use reusable bags so I don’t have any clean up.
this has been a great upload , thank you so much !
Glad you enjoyed it!
They have shower balls
Oh dear gawsh, I can't breath, I'm laughing so hard! Between the ritual bath outcome and the fancy tea, no greater truths have been told!
Thankyou!
well I hadn't tasted a lush bath bomb, but now I want to...
I really don't recommend it. Bitter salt. Bleurgh!
It's not a hex, it's a 'judicial working' ;).
Your comments on happy vs content are so spot-on! Happy is more akin to a mood, and contentment is more akin to a state of being. My therapist drove this home years ago and the relief of 'oh, it's not supposed to hang about as a state of being' was enormous! Fantastic video as always, and just the chuckle I needed on a Monday.
About the tea: Ive been collecting herbs and making my own teas since I was like 11. They help me with my heartburn, upset bladder in the winter and flu-symptoms better than any meds I ever took. Lavender does help you relax, so does thyme though, and a whole bunch of other herbs that are probably in those herbal teabags at the store :) I feel like the process of making yourself a cup of tea and slowly sipping it on its own can help with stress! My whole point is, since you were asking "who does that!?' - 🙋♀️ me, kinda!
Bath bombs are my oldest son's department.
So I take it we won't find you in a Bird and Blend shop anytime soon. My daughter (the same one who 'borrowed' one of my tarot decks) dragged me to the Norwich one, oh my did my purse take a beating. Normally Earl Grey is my poison of choice, No milk no sugar. But the teas in Bird and blend are so 'intense' I had to put some runny hunny in. Very nice though. :)
Pure facts. I cannot think of anyone who did me (or WORSE--my kids) dirty who got any comeuppance.
I'm sorry. I wish the universe was fair.
Yes ma'am to the note of cursing well my ex spent 13 years in jail and he ruined his own damn life I had nothing to do with it I do admit though I enjoyed every moment😊
The German word for this is "schadenfreude" - taking joy in a justified downfall. I'm a huge fan of schadenfreude!
I've never licked a bath-bomb but oh my goodness I've wanted to eat their soap bars that smell of chocolate... I prefer foot baths for this sort of thing. I agree I can't be arsed to scrub out the bath just for this. Thank you for being one of the most sensible people on the internet! Also: Definitely sign me up for the Church of Anti-Cinnamon...
It all just smells too good...
As someone new to the craft, I've fallen into the you must buy all of these things & have this space like this. Spirituality doesn't equate to capitalism. Also, my altar space is currently my dresser, which is in my closet 😅. I have started some workings on it, but i also have sekhmet there as well. I move her around as i need to. I was worried she'd be annoyed with me, but i feel she doesn't mind so much 😅. I recently went to a metaphysical shop & i really enjoyed the shopkeeper. She's wiccan & a high priestess. I don't think I'd fall into the wiccan category, but I find it all interesting
Don't get me wrong, I'm a sucker for a dopamine shopping hit... And I really don't think there's anything wrong with an altar in a closet! Your deity's place is in your life, and it doesn't matter where the physical representation is. Also: I'm totally not a Wiccan anymore, but some of the dearest people in my life are <3 Glad you found a good shop with a lovely shopkeeper!
Brigham Young fan fiction. OMG that killed me. As an exmo now witch, talk about your idol having feet of clay!!!!!
Herbal things can be so helpful in so many situations - I'm really glad you find they help! A dearly beloved, but now late, friend of mine grew the garden that was the inspiration for Pratchett's "Death's Garden"...
Herbalist here! I specialize in tea making (despite hating tea myself as a coffee chugging American). But, herbal teas when prepared correctly with good quality herbs have complex flavors. When in school I learned that herbal teas should be steeped longer than store bought teas. 20mins is the standard for herbal teas, especially if you want their medicinal value.
I grow the vast majority of my own herbs, I'm going to try steeping it longer - thanks for the tip!
Cover the tea while steeping also. Holds in the flavor and medicinal properties. I hated chamomile tea until I properly made a cup.
Also... Don't burn the herbs... Water temperature as with green tea. After steeping the infusion can be heated carefully.... It's technically an infusion btw if it doesn't actually contain tea (camelia sinensis leaves).
milk and sugar and Yorkshire gold for me! 😉
A person after my own heart! (Skip the sugar for me, but YG and milk all the way!)
Does anyone remember 'Bath Cubes' that were huge in the 80s, given at almost every female birthday? And also those tiny soaps shaped like fruit, animals etc that could be bought in gift shops? We had a bowl of them in our bathroom.
BATH CUBES!!!!! I bought them for my Nan every year.... The little shaped soaps were always in decorative bowls, weren't they? I never actually remember using them to wash my hands at all...
wonderful rant... thank you
Hello. Thank you for sharing your insight, much appreciated. The unfortunate aspect of believing in "you get what you give" in whatever form it is touted is that then when a person experiences hardship or injustice it can be dismissed as if they had done something to bring it on themselves, while conversely equating success and well being with being a worthy, deserving person. I hear this type of rhetoric in conservative religious, self congratulatory voices. I agree with you in that this really doesn't hold up to scrutiny, it's more like a blame and shame game disguised as morality.... Just a thought .... 🦉
Yeah, that's a whole mad viewpoint right there. I hate the concept of people living with disabilities have somehow brought it on themselves. Makes me pretty angry, actually.
Apartments with bathtubs are becoming progressively less accessible to low income people in my area. Not being able to do a "bath ritual" doesn't make one less of a witch. The mountain grannies and backwoods witch ladies used baths for healing but they wouldn't have wasted precious water and herbs for a personal ritual.
I'd not heard of bathtubs being inaccessible on a financial basis! You are absolutely correct about backwoods grannies not wasting resources like that!
Lol i am that person who grows heaps of medicinal herbs & plants on my allotment to use in herbal teas, tinctures, salves, bath ‘teas’ (I use giant muslin tea bag thingies so no mess & I don’t add oils). The teas mostly do taste ‘green’ 😂 but they very much help reduce the nasty symptoms of the autoimmune illnesses I unfortunately live with. I do have a witchcraft garden too, mostly not to used in such things ☠️ 👻 As for an enjoyable cuppa ☕️ it’s Earl Grey black tea for me ♥️🖤
Licking a bath bomb is a daft thing to do! I think you're in the minority on that one! Re- your question about the situation with your ex and the 3-fold law : your husband would get it back as he cheated and lied and did not have the balls to be honest with you.
Nothing bad had happened to him. He has the career of his dreams, and is married to someone whom he loves very much. Nothing bounced back on him. I've concentrated on being happy myself and come to realise that my happiness is not dependent on him being miserable.
As an American, I drink no bagged tea. I'm 8 minutes in and you've done nothing but complain. "Now I have to clean the bath tub." Yeah, that is life. Pay someone else to do it if it bothers you that much or barter if you're broke.
First time here?
I think you may have missed the bit that I say at the beginning of every video where I say, "I'm going to whinge for 30 minutes about things that don't matter very much...." Also, the title of my channel is "Grumpy Old Crone". Maybe I should find a way to be more obvious about my content - I am open to ideas!
That's given me an idea. What if you put some herb stuff in a cheesecloth then hang it on one of the bath taps, squeeze it and lt the oils etc go into the bath, just something similar to what you recommended doing in the shower?
Other people have said the same. I don't know why I didn't think of that. I'm obviously a bit challenged today!
That same cheese cloth bag with herbs will also help in the tub, if you really want a bath! Just leave out the dreaded essential oils, because they are the pits to clean out...
Other people have said this. It's the perfect idea. You are all so much more clued up than I am!
Meat and potatoes 'not good or bad just necessary. We learned something, had 2 great children and are in a better relationship. I had the same ish, experience with marriage 2 great kids only difference is ex and girlfriend try to make a lot of trouble and continue even now after 35.
I know waaaaa waaaa lol but I have learned how to not let it saturate me 😊😊
Sorry you get stress and trouble after so long. That's not nice of them at all. Judging them hard.
Does it work if you just stick your bath bomb in a big teabag?
Our minds store thoughts onto physical space. Something like that. Storing stories at the stars in the night sky. Seeing an object and remembering something forgotten. 11 altars isnt for everyone but for some I'm certain it'll heighten their experience with their craft. I like the days of the week approach. Creates inherent routine. Tracks movement through time and not just space. I, of course, will not be recreating the system but I do find myself admiring it.
And while I'm here, it's worth a mention. This is from the perspective of a 28 y/o American but you absolutely communicate "witch" with your appearance. I'd like to point to your hair or your glasses or one of these features that are a little simpler to point to. I can imagine those, however, on a fundamentalist Christian in my neighborhood with ease. I think it's something a little deeper. The way your life has formed your face and how you carry it. The echoes of emotions past. The emotions you live in today. Also the makeup around your eyes might be doing some favors as well. Regardless, like another said, if I saw you on the street I think I'd get an energy from you that likens you to witchcraft. Just nothing blatant enough to be certain.
The comment about house dust and oil is spot on. With an air purifier in room, I had to downsize my personal altar space as I didn't have the capacity to maintain it against the ever falling flakes of human skin that we live amongst. Makes the altar awfully attuned I can imagine but also feels a bit disrespectful without any intention behind the obscuring film.
That's the best compliment ever! Thankyou!
I made a terrible mistake with someone;offering friendship and help. The end result was I wound up impoverished and crippled, but at least saving my home and land. OTOH the one who betrayed and injured me has been sitting in jail for over 2 years and if he is convicted at the upcoming trial, he will go to prison for the rest of his life. Alas, my ‘gut’ seems quite unreliable & even my dog liked this person. I made a ‘rookie mistake’ with the charts, and at my level and age, the penalty was huge. Now I am a nearly total recluse, surviving out here which takes a lot of time and effort, which at least keeps me active. Is this an example of the Rule? I think looking at one’s chart helps to understand how and in what circumstances that Rule may apply.
Sending so much positivity to you! I'm sorry you are having to deal with all of that.
Use large teabags or cheesecloth bag in the bath?
Everyone is saying the same thing. I can't believe I didn't think of it...
I never really took the threefold law at face value, I always understood it as a general warning of karma. Like yeah, if you're not very nice to someone, they're probably gonna match your tone. And they might even over correct and be even nastier to you than you have been to them. Or similarly, if you draw in negative energy to yourself, you'll be wallowing in negative energy, probably worse than the negativity you started out with. You reap what you sow basically, I don't take it as a literal fact that everything you do is multiplied by 3.
