    As far as AI spells go... Why would the Universe be bothered to listen to something that the spellcrafter couldn't even be bothered to create?

    • @Beaken68
      @Beaken68 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I don't understand this take. Does that mean that every time we use a spell we did not write that it's pointless? Is ritual only meaningful when it's created from scratch? I'm curious about witchcraft and thought that getting a book of spells was a good way to dip my toe in. But if the universe won't listen. If I don't bother to write it myself, that means rethinking my early steps

      @@Beaken68 i think its less about it being made from scratch and more about the time, effort, energy and love you put into your spellwork

    AI has no place in creativity. It's not even a short cut, it's even lazier, even less personal

      If anything, it seems like a ritual of rejection toward creativity. It's refusal to even go through the motions, much less engage in what makes the magic.

    i had a friend over for dinner for the solstice and they were talking about using AI for their job...which is to help students at a university. Talking about writing emails to students with AI, specifically. Idk about anyone else, but getting an obviously AI-generated email when I really need help with something is frustrating and makes me feel like the organization I'm corresponding with doesn't care about me, so this was so strange to hear about from the other end. I was so flummoxed I dropped an entire shepherds pie that I'd been making from scratch all afternoon all over my kitchen floor 🙃 I really truly don't understand why using AI for a spell would even be an interesting idea to someone...

    Witchcraft is THE ONE THING AI can't touch because it's so personal! If you can't even come up with spells on your own, why even be a witch? If you just want the aesthetic, that's fine! But spells can literally be as simple as putting salt in a jar, chanting "protection protection protection" over it and closing the lid. Are we so braindead now we need AI to tell us how to do that?

    • @chris7263

      As an artist, I always get a little... hurt/angry/resentful when people say THEIR thing is the one thing AI can't interfere with. I think if you're content to throw everyone else under the AI bus, it's only a matter of time until it comes for you too. We hold off the AI invasion by standing together, not by assuming you alone are special enough to be safe.

      @@chris7263 We already know that A.I. has creativity limitations. This will all be an embarrassing trend, at best, before people realize that A.I. cannot actually create anything "new" that was not already input.

    Living alone is the single best thing I've ever done for myself and the reason I get through the holidays. I love that I was granted the privilege of being able to afford living alone, even if it is in a tiny studio flat.

    • @GnomeInPlaid
      @GnomeInPlaid 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      I completely understand. In fact, I look at living alone as a favor I do for others. Wouldn't want to "ruin two houses" as the old saying goes. (That means two people who shouldn't live together because they are far too different - oil and water.)

    • @canopusstar5157
      @canopusstar5157 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      I live alone very far from any sizable town or city. There are few lights to disturb the night and I have good views of the stars, very useful for working. Mostly, being old, I sometimes visit my Grove, the one I first set up 20years ago when I first moved here. In general, after a horrible ‘break in service’ I was able to return and reset some of the magic around the house. Although I would have like to have a partner, generally it was not to be and I am more at peace now in old age with living entirely alone. I used to celebrate Beltane with some friends but even that is fading into the Past. Still, I am content and love the life and home I have constructed.

    Regarding AI, I have a total sense of humour failure. We have created this entity that we don’t know how to control, and we are nodding and smiling and laughing as it devours the creativity and independent thought that makes us human, while in return it destroys the planet we need to survive and encourages our absolute worst traits of greed and sloth. I am genuinely afraid.
    Dormancy and solitude is good advice for this time of year. I am communicating from my fortress of yarn balls (yarnbôls?) where I have been frantically crocheting and have slowly buried myself under two blankets, two ridiculous hats and a snood. I surface in March.

    As for AI, entirely apart from the excreble theft and laziness of it, it is the most disengagement possible from a process that at bottom intensely visceral. If one can't be bothered to put their own thought, energy, and time into a working -- there's a reason it's called work -- then let them hire someone else to do it or do without.
    All the best in the coming civil year!

    I love the colder weather of this time of year. I get more depressed in summer when its hot & humid and I can't move without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, the temps in Virginia have been above 60 (15 C) the past few days reactivating my allergies and making me feel even more like absolute crud than this season usually does.
    That said, I'm very anti-AI for 99% of what its being used for now. I used Chat GPT to re-write responses to the self-evaluation for my annual review and when I was re-doing my resume during my job search in 2023 but overall I've found little benefit from it and the art it creates is very flat. I would never consider using it for spells - how can they come from your own intentions if a computer writes them? 😕
    Beautful wand! I'm always awed by how someone can create that kind of art. I can see the images in my head all day long but transfering them to a medium has never been something I could manage and I stay in awe when I see the results of those who can.

Neither of us is a fan of the public use of AI for generating content, nor are we fans of companies constantly trying to tell us to use it. I can't even fathom using it for spellwork - The power of the spell comes from your effort, intent, and personal spirit... All of those are lacking when you plug a quick few words and a command into a machine and wait for it to spit words back to you. Keep doing what you're doing! My plan was to do a rather traditional spiritualist seance, and employ a ghost-box. This would be fed to a TTS program, which would create prompts for an image generator. Ghosts and Robots, collaborating on visual art through human aid. Unfortunately, these planet-killing plagiarism machines line the pockets of some of the worst humans alive…

    Wow, this video is so full of goodness! Where to begin!? AI and Witchcraft is a big no for me, too. I could go on for hours about that but you put it succintly.
    I'm still in the learning phase of my journey with witchcraft, so educational videos sound so delightful because you're great to listen to! Your sweater/jumper (I'm so sorry, I'm American haha) is very cute and cozy looking, and it makes me want to start crocheting again. And that wand! Wonderful! Your kids are so talented, and their love really comes through in the beautiful things they've crafted for you. I think I'd tear up, too. :)
    Thank you for another great video, and I'm looking forward to seeing all of your ideas in 2025 come alive!

    I'm not wholly against AI myself personally, but heartily agree that spellwork and spiritual work should be done without the usage of AI, because of the personal energy and magickal power that goes into it. Goes for any sort of spellwork or ritual creating that doesn't feel honest. If it doesn't resonate with you, doesn't feel right, or you don't know where it comes from, best not to do it.
    Personally when I've done rituals in the past, I've always followed my intuition during it and adapted when I feel I could improve it.
    Your videos always make me think more about how I practice and how I can improve it. Thank you for continuing to provide excellent content for all of us out there.

      Thank you for watching my stuff and nonsense - it is very much appreciated.
      Like you, I do believe there is a genuine use for AI, and scientist friends have told me that it can be really vital in a lot of the grunt work of research that requires thought rather than just filling test tubes. I don't believe using it as a planet-destroying toy is the way forward though.

    Bob should get a dog to inspire him to the doggerel that really can make a good spell! Also living with dogs develops your intuition. I awoke late yesterday after a party with neighbors ( more people than I am used to these days) and then the thought came into my mind “What’s happening with Jimmy Carter?”I read, a few hours later that day that he had died! That is really a beautiful wand! I usually don’t use a wand. The one I have, gotten in 1984, is a ‘left-handed’ antler set with some semi-precious gemstones in the shaft part, and it is tipped by a nice quartz crystal. It is in a drawer to protect it from Demon Cat who would knock it off and break it. Astrology is very handy in working; finding the right time can be very useful. I am more chaotic in practice; candles are the most used ‘tools’ for me…astrology and doggerel serve for the rest.

    • @GrumpyOldCrone
      @GrumpyOldCrone  3 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I have a lot of respect for chaos magic. It's not my path, but it is very interesting! I love antlers and ethically sourced bones.
      I'm a Brit, but I remember Carter's presidency (just!) and he always seemed like a good person trying to do his best for all people. The loss of a good person is always a sad thing.

      @@GrumpyOldCrone Carter was a most ethical person. His foundation’s work of reducing the prevalence of a parasitic worm infection in Africa had results nothing short of miraculous! Well you've had me in tears of laughter, heartfelt tears and tears of joy.. High five Annie, I got to spend the festive season on my own this year as my youngest went to his dad's for xmas on the beach(Kiwi style)lol.. I absolutely loved being by myself for 4 days, AI has a place for sure but not in witchcraft, While on the subject of meat and potatoes, I can't believe the amount of people posting about blowing Cinnamon out the bloody door lol, I love Cinnamon but I won't waste it on that lol... Your kids are amazing, it's so special to be gifted with something made with love, wish I could have a wand but it probably wouldn't get through NZ customs lol.. I have a very simple stick I found 20 years ago that I placed a couple of crystals on and wrapped with copper wire lol, it's not something I use very much as I prefer my Athame which was my mothers letter opener, shaped like a sword, I love it and it's at it's century of ownership in the family.. Can't wait to see what you have in store for us next year, blessed be 🌚⭐

    Absolutely feel you on dressing in the classic holiday garb making you feel off, and the social pressure that comes with it. The holidays can be a trying time, on my end; I'd rather stay home with my cats, and have some homemade eggnog, maybe a nice meal ksdjfnksdjn I don't do well in groups over 2 people, even if I know everyone involved.
    G O D, AI is everywhere in places it has no place in. Maybe he meant something like Grammarly for corrections??? But frankly from how he said it, I don't think that's what he meant....
    I think part of it is folks just not realizing (or caring about) the exact weight those tools have on the environment, and just how much they stifle genuine creativity, and/or take advantage of folks who put their time into the initial project AI yoinked the answers from... It's probably the not caring, knowing how people are, but I'd prefer to say it's 'not knowing'. I'd rather people be ignorant than outright apathetic, even if it's just to make ME feel a little better.
    Witchcraft, especially spells, require your PERSONAL touch. Granted I'm also a writer in my free time, and my sibling is an artist, so I have some STRONG OPINIONS on AI in creative spaces.
    I'm someone intrigued by the potential of AI... But the direction that it's going in has deterred me from it at all. As someone who wanted to go into coding specifically to make tools that wouldn't burn through all that power and had an actual purpose rather than being a fancy toy? It hurts my soul sdkljfnkjdfndkf
    Like AI tools for early cancer screening, medical diagnostic assistance, helping to figure things out that are a tad too complex for humans to figure out on their own, that's all 1000% fantastic, and that's what AI should be used for: Things that are beyond the scope of our best in the scientific community to figure out in a timely manner. Things that could help people, or the world at large.

    • @GrumpyOldCrone

      It's a lazy answer from me here, but honestly, I agree 100% with everything you've written here. It's the lack of care that winds me up the most. If people just put a little bit of care into their craft..... *sigh*

    • @LivinglyVivid
      @LivinglyVivid 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@GrumpyOldCrone Ha, I never mind "lazy" replies. I'm just a chatterbox who likes to talk when I have something to say! (Plus, commenting for the algorithm is always a bonus for creators, so I take it as a win-win.)
      I 100% agree with you! Granted I'm someone who takes care with everything that I find important, my craft being no exception, so I may be a tad biased on that front.
      I also think folks get intimidated when they feel that their skills are lacking... Of course certain communities are partially responsible for that, especially in art. (The amount of people who are downright cruel to beginners is so sad, like... Art is a battlefield laced with the innards of the initiates, so to speak-)
      But yeah, rule of thumb with many folks? If they aren't immediately the most AMAZING at something, they take the easy route, and AI has definitely been a show of that, haha... I'd so much rather see someone trying, rather than having a line of code do it for them.
      I'm of the mind of "How will you improve if you don't work on it"... But hey, what do I know?

    With you completely.
    Don’t own a Xmas jumper and never will. I travelled up to Flint (relatively easy from jct 3 M6) taking my eldest son who does not like Christmas and what is these days. We made it as the sun was going down so got some lovely images but walking on the cast in another country made our day. We then travelled back on motorways to Stone and collected my middle son. Best Xmas day we’ve had in years. The mother and husband were not impressed but I was fed up of doing to please others. In the summer I decided my day, the 25th of Dec was going to be miles away. My eldest asked if he could go too. I instantly said of course.
