Wow! When you said that you give your blade to your king in faelty and he gives it back the hair stood up on the back of my neck and tears came into my eyes. That is the best anecdote I've ever heard. Thank you very much for sharing that, Annie. Brilliant! 👑
That is such a great story. In my younger days I was deeply involved in re-enacting in early U.S, history for 20-some years, mostly late 18th/early 19th century frontier and fur trade. When you are deeply and seriously into it, you form a special bond with your chosen place and time, and these kinds of things just happen. I have heard inexplicable episodes like this from fellow re-enactors, and experienced things myself. In particular, one persona I often assumed was a Metis (Cree/French) medicine woman, to give educational programs on native spirituality and medicine, and do traditional story-telling. I had a headdress made for me by an elder of a coyote pelt. When I wore that headdress for a program, I would sometimes slip into a trance without intending to, and start telling stories about Old Man Coyote that I had never even heard before. I could never remember those stories after, though friends recorded me twice in that state, and my voice didn't really sound like mine. Must have been channeling some one, though I never figured out who it was. Those stories were better than the ones I knew though....
Actually, that's a story I should tell some time: Mr Grumpy Old Crone is a storyteller and occasionally the voices I hear coming out are NOT his. Channelling is real.
Oh my goodness wow what a fabulous story, Annie! You've brought a lump to my throat n tears to my eyes!! Really! That is truly awesome. You pledged your blade and the King gave it back to you in the time honoured way. Just WOW!! Blessed be! Love Mel xx 🍰🌻🎃
I had a similar experience of losing my knife at Kelmarsh my scabbard was secured horizontally and it kept falling out. Luckily a nice security guard found it and returned it to me. After that I had the scabbard altered to hang vertically, problem solved. I only use it for magical purposes now anyway. Bosworth is definitely an event I'd have liked to have gone to. We did attend a few Wars of the Roses Soc shows with the Shrewsbury Levy when we lived in Shropshire but my husband doesn't like that period. I prefer it though lol.
wow! Goosebumps. Beautiful story, always amazing when 'magic' happens Thanks for sharing Thanks for the history lesson too - I would love to learn more
The Wars of the Roses is absolutely where my heart lies, historically. If you are into historical fiction, I recommend "The Sunne in Splendor" by Sharon Penman. It is definitely a fictionalised retelling of this period, but it's a really good read and she has done her research.
I don't know if it's still available but Future Learn did a short online course about Richard III and both the military and social history of the times, plus the finding of his remains and his reburial. It was fabulous, really fascinating. :)
Makes you wonder, what if the tourist you encountered was the King’s spirit or he was working thru them? I can only imagine your story to the tourist was just as gorgeous as to us. New to your channel, love your content so far. Especially these personal stories. Just beautiful 🫶
Oh wow. I was literally holding my breath the whole last half of the story, and when you reached back to show us the knife I leaned in closer to my screen. What a truly marvelous story.
Ah definitely a kindred spirit ❤ we used to partake in medieval reenactment and living history when we lived in the uk, we belonged to Conquest, covering 1060 to 1260 (ish). We had soooo much fun, I miss it occasionally. Peter has joined a Napoleonic group here in France (the English side) but that era doesn't spark me with joy. ❤❤❤ We had lots of fabulous experiences, most notably some at Dover Castle. What a fabulous story, its given me goosebumps and love your knife, Todd is a good friend of ours and is only a stones throw from where we used to live 😉😊
I may have to do an extra story about Bosworth, although it won't be *my* story, when we returned to the group and explained what had happened, I got a few VERY juicy stories from other people.... That place is wild after dark.
Cool story ,glad you got it back he was not the tyrant people think and to lead into battle with his affliction makes him a rock star in my book . blessings..
I just found your channel so I'm BINGING, but this story is so beautiful, I believe in it 10000%. I love when these things happen! I got goosebumps during the entire vid 🥰
Bosworth water trust lakes are good for walk around in fresh air. Though I live the other side of Nuneaton these days I’ve still not actually been to the battle site. If I go anyway near Lockerbie my flesh prickles. Two of my sons are far more attuned to things though than me. There’s way more to this world than we perhaps will ever know.
Damn, I just found your channel last night and found it so cool that I immediately subscribed. Today I find...THIS...this video! Another person who stands by our King Richard. So thrilled to hear it. I wear my little boar pin on my jacket, here in the US and the vast majority of people have no clue what it is---"Is that like, Chinese New Year, or something?" It seems there are a LOT of closet Yorkists in England however---admittedly I was in Yorkshire when I met them so no surprise. Thank you for sharing this delightful story. Now, I wonder what would happen if you went to Middleham...
HAIL FELLOW RICARDIAN!!!! Last true King of England for my money. I've never been to Middleham, although it's actually pretty close and I am an English Heritage member. I think that's probably an adventure for this summer! (Also, debating doing one last story about the Bloody Runnel for tonight. It won't be *my* story, but it's a good one.)
I think sometimes magical items seem to have a homing propensity. Like in Harry Potter, the wand chooses the wizard rather than the other way around. Or in Star Wars, the light sabre returns itself to the hands of the right Jedi.
I think Richard is quite 'active', if that makes sense. (I am sure you know what I mean.) Have you ever read the novella Sacred King? A look at Richard's last days but mixed with myth and legend ie the king who dies to save his land.
Thankyou! Yes, that's me playing my big harp, "Calon". The song is called "A Gentle Giving" and was written for a friend of mine called Keris who has now passed through the veil.
Don't worry - lots more grumpiness! I'm sticking with the normal format, but doing additional bits and bobs as well, including these stories :-). I've just started on Yule grumping!
What a beautiful story!! ❤ You have a knack for storytelling thats for sure 😊
I can't hold a candle to my husband who is a proper storyteller, though!
@GrumpyOldCrone aww maybe you should get him on one day to tell us an enchanted tale!! 😊😊😊
Wow! Beautiful story 🗡️
Glad you enjoyed it!
You offered him your blade, showed your loyalty, and he returned your blade. Awesome :)
Beautiful story 🌸
Glad you think so!

@@GrumpyOldCroneooh I'm buying Popcorn for that one!! Sounds great! Bring it on! Can't wait!!! 😃
Love, Mel xx 🍰🌻🎃

I love that story! Love it!
...and 100% true!
Oh my that gave me shivers 🫢
100% true, as well.

Definitely the period that my heart cries for. When you find the right period, it is very easy to time slip too, which I adore.

Agreed 100%. He was *my* king.
@GrumpyOldCrone my mate and his parents were in the sealed knot,is it still going??
@@sandyblack9698 It is.

Such a cool story and glad you have your knife back.
Me too. It makes it even more special as my athame now.
Beautiful knife that. Some magic happened there for sure.
Awesome 😊
Thank you! Cheers!
Love this story (even as a Henry VII supporter ;) )
FILTHY FILTHY LANCASTRIAN ARSE! (don't worry, folks - I know her.... and her frankly incorrect historical views.)
Did you have that reaction to Lockerbie before the disaster, or just since? I find that really interesting....

How wild

Thankyou!
Did you create the music that you play at the beginning and end of your videos? It's beautiful
Thankyou! Yes, that's me playing my big harp, "Calon". The song is called "A Gentle Giving" and was written for a friend of mine called Keris who has now passed through the veil.
Loving the stories but….kinda missing the rants/whinging.
Is it possible to do a specific Samhain grump?
Don't worry - lots more grumpiness! I'm sticking with the normal format, but doing additional bits and bobs as well, including these stories :-). I've just started on Yule grumping!
