Herbalist here! I specialize in tea making (despite hating tea myself as a coffee chugging American). But, herbal teas when prepared correctly with good quality herbs have complex flavors. When in school I learned that herbal teas should be steeped longer than store bought teas. 20mins is the standard for herbal teas, especially if you want their medicinal value.

      Also... Don't burn the herbs...
Water temperature as with green tea.
After steeping the infusion can be heated carefully....
It's technically an infusion btw if it doesn't actually contain tea (camelia sinensis leaves).

Apartments with bathtubs are becoming progressively less accessible to low income people in my area.
Not being able to do a "bath ritual" doesn't make one less of a witch. The mountain grannies and backwoods witch ladies used baths for healing but they wouldn't have wasted precious water and herbs for a personal ritual.

When I first saw the title, I excitedly said "Oohh... she's gonna go after the Threefold Law!" Your opinion aligns very strongly with mine. It's part of a specific religion and members of that religion need to stop trying to force apply it across all witchcraft. It's no different than the Carpenter's fan club trying to force their religious views on everyone else.

Plant a seed--and the seed will grow. Whether that seed is a literal seed, or the seed of magickal intention. That is what the threefold law means. Now, why is that so hard to understand--and why are witches so hell bent on pretending that they can act without consequence--when the very nature of our work is consequences.
I'm rather ashamed of the mindset I see in many of the comments--this attempt to evade responsibility and encouraging people to share in the delusion.

I kinda think the same if the rule of three. Like, really you need threat of retribution to be decent?
I think there's a place for baneful magic. Specially because magic had historically been for the downtrodden and disenfranchised. But also it's not my first move to curse someone that their left sock is always wet.

The thing to remember about the rhyming Parts of Wiccan lore is that it was Made up by a Middle-class class Middle aged woman fueled by copious amounts of red wine. Namely, Doreen Valiente. It isn't Holy Writ (not that Holy Writ is either). She was probably just trying to trump the Golden Rule.
Thinking of infusion, we went through a fad for home made spirit liqueurs. Most relevant were, lavender - which created a sort of inability to motivate - an extreme chill pill. Spice with a lot of *nutmeg* - hallucinogenic. Filter coffee and brandy - dubbed by the local ladies patched motorcycle club as 'rocket fuel' because it makes you very drunk and very awake at the same time. We stopped after the lavender because we were worried someone might end up catatonic.

I don't see why being middle class is relevant to someone's Witchery, and what is wrong about being a middle aged woman? They have experience and usually some wisdom. This is oddly dismissive about a woman who knew and wrote so much about witchcraft, Wicca and other traditions, some quite beautiful poetry - and prose, ritual and otherwise, whether fuelled by red wine or not. It's almost like hearing someone say the Beatles were overrated. I'd rather my initiates read Valiente than some of the other choices. @@peridot1706 to claim that race, gender, age and economic fortune do not have an impact on the history of the craft in it's various forms is to disregard a large part of that very history. There are plenty of "new age" nonsenses out there that were specifically targeted towards the Pinterest obsessed, middle-aged white woman and her teenage counterparts. This aesthetic and superficial craft is meant as a cash grab for those who can afford such ventures. The long and storied tradition of the disenfranchised witch is the antithesis of this "new age" model. The abused, the women of color, the impoverished, those lacking in social power are the backbone of the history of the craft throughout the ages and the reason it has survived and continues to draw in new generations of witches.

I've never seen the sense in dumping various floaty bits into a bath. I do for a bath what you suggested for the shower, wrap herbs in cheese cloth, let it steep while the tub fills. Washing with handmade soaps made with the appropriate scents & herbs solves the issue of dumping oil in the bath. If you want a bubble bath, it's easy enough to turn some of that handmade bar into liquid soap. Add a bit of glycerin for added moisturizing.

You're right in that some people get obsessed with cinnamon, but as for the “keep the food in the kitchen,“ sentiment you also expressed in a short, I have to disagree. Here in the US, we have long running traditions of hoodoo practice and one of the many “tools” in that toolbox are sprinkling powders. There are traditional mixes, and mixes that a practitioner can create on their own, and while I’ve never heard of any specific thing about blowing cinnamon around, it fits in well with some of what folks do.
Also, food items like honey, eggshells, crabshells, and cornmeal are used in other workings. Remember, not everyone who practices witchcraft is coming from an English perspective. Side note: rosemary, sage and lavender are food too. 😄 Love your channel, keep up the grump!

I've always found the Threefold Law to be daft and innane. When I first started exploring witchcraft, I figured that the idea that energy returns in kind makes more sense. That is, if you put positive energy out, you'll eventually get a roughly equal amount of positive energy back, but not necessarily in the same form. Nowadays, as I philosophise about it more and more, I'm increasingly feeling like simple cause and effect makes the most sense.

There's a story about a farmer whose son broke his leg right before harvest. "What a disaster!" everyone said. "He won't be able to help you get the crops in!" But the next day the emperor's soldiers came through the village, conscripting every able-bodied young man they found. "How lucky for you," the neighbors told the farmer, "that your son can't be drafted and marched away to fight and probably be killed!" But the very next week... You can see where this story is going. I meditate on it every time I believe something is Good or Bad. Right & wrong, in contrast, is something we ourselves understand about our own actions, and our right to judge each other's choices, and others' right to judge ours, is limited.

Me, honestly, though I'm personally of the opinion that herbal infusions don't count as tea unless there's actual leaves from the tea plant in it. 😂 On the other hand, the (heh) ritual of gathering the herbs together and slowly steeping them before adding honey and stirring to combine acts as much as a slowing down prelude to the relaxing boosted by then drinking the infusion. Those self care books don't go into that bit of it much, though, focusing more on the "potion" portion than the "use the brewing of this to kickstart making yourself slow down to relax".

They're also the easiest thing to clean up without breaking the mood before ritual, IMO.

Happy is more akin to a mood, and contentment is more akin to a state of being. My therapist drove this home years ago and the relief of 'oh, it's not supposed to hang about as a state of being' was enormous!
Fantastic video as always, and just the chuckle I needed on a Monday.

I occasionally do a ritual purification shower by putting the requisite ingredients in a bowl of warm water, saying an incantation over it, and then just pouring that over myself. Because I'm not a huge bath person, and the Lush bath bomb bath story reminds me why.

For ritual baths, I either make a tea from the herbs I'm using to pour over myself before soaking, or I use cheesecloth to wrap the herbs and toss that into the tub. It never makes a mess.
As for curses, yes, I've done them. Only two led to very dramatic consequences, one in a similar circumstance to what you mentioned that resulted in a lost business, home, and arrest, the other in a child abuse case that led to arrest and loss of custody. I've never regretted that, and I don't feel like I suffered any sort of backlash or bad luck afterward. I helped people who needed it get justice they were otherwise denied. I can think of few better uses for magic.

Few things in modern paganism are more misunderstood than the Wiccan Rede and Rule of Three. Briefly...
tldr 1: Context matters. While the word "wicca" gets applied to all sorts of things, traditional Wiccan concepts are exclusively for and about... *Wiccan initiates*. Not solitaries, not eclectics, not any other type of witch or pagan.
tldr 2: Neither the Rede or 3Fold is emphasized in traditional Wicca, they're not taught to be universal laws (gasp!). That attribution (or accusation) they are was made by everyone else.
tldr 3: *The Threefold does not imply what people think it does.* It is not about the universe heaping rewards or punishment in X-amount on anyone (gasp!). In context, it pertains to the actions of the initiate.
tldr 4: Subsequently, non-initiates either try to abide by or hate on what's really distorted info. And give the Rede & 3Fold far, FAR more attention than is found within the practice they come from.

Decades ago when I actually did spells and not energy work, I would take a ritual bath after each spell as my spell wrap up/release. I used herbs wrapped in a cheesecloth and nothing else. Then I would rinse in a shower afterwards (which also rinsed the tub lol). If I did use ritual tea, I'd use the same herbs as I would be bathing in later and would drink it prior to the spellwork. But I agree...not a fan of drinking green lol.
I've never heard of the cinnamon thing. But I HAVE used cinnamon around windows and floorboards (but that was as a natural deterrent for ants, not any kind of ritual thing lol).
Also, I'm not a fan of "rules" lol. The rule of 3/7/10 is ridiculous. That's not how any of this works. And honestly, it is fairly toxic when you think about it. If you suddenly have a streak of bad luck, it leaves you wondering what you've done wrong, etc. I've even seen others blame "bad karma" (which don't get me started on how karma is completely misrepresented) and such for really nasty things happening to people and that's awful. It's not a universal law. The universe runs on balance. Chaos exists to prevent balance from growing stagnant. But good and bad are just matters of perspective...something bad happening to YOU might be something good happening to someone else. It's all a cycle. Trying to live and work in a place of balance is the key. Golden rules are great for morals and ethics but have nothing to do with universal laws.
Really enjoying your perspective. It's lovely to have a fellow grump out there sharing real wisdom.

Hello. Thank you for sharing your insight, much appreciated. The unfortunate aspect of believing in "you get what you give" in whatever form it is touted is that then when a person experiences hardship or injustice it can be dismissed as if they had done something to bring it on themselves, while conversely equating success and well being with being a worthy, deserving person. I hear this type of rhetoric in conservative religious, self congratulatory voices. I agree with you in that this really doesn't hold up to scrutiny, it's more like a blame and shame game disguised as morality.... Just a thought .... 🦉

It still does my heart good to hear others survived that betrayal too. ((hugs))

I made a terrible mistake with someone;offering friendship and help. The end result was I wound up impoverished and crippled, but at least saving my home and land. OTOH the one who betrayed and injured me has been sitting in jail for over 2 years and if he is convicted at the upcoming trial, he will go to prison for the rest of his life. Alas, my ‘gut’ seems quite unreliable & even my dog liked this person. I made a ‘rookie mistake’ with the charts, and at my level and age, the penalty was huge. Now I am a nearly total recluse, surviving out here which takes a lot of time and effort, which at least keeps me active. Is this an example of the Rule? I think looking at one’s chart helps to understand how and in what circumstances that Rule may apply.

Good video, I really enjoy your content and to hear perspectives that I believe usually aren’t very loudly heard in the community. Whenever I thought of the three-fold rule I always found myself wondering how so many ascribe importance to it even though, like you said, life doesn’t really work that way. And it’s complicated.
I scoffed at it, thinking of all the people who have done others very wrong and yet they were perfectly fine. Sometimes I also wonder what effect such beliefs can have on those who are prone to anxiety and overthinking, leading to a spiral where each and every action is scrutinised and worried over because of fear.
Happy to know someone else isn’t very fond of the concept.

Rules and paradigms based on numbers and numerology are innately cultural &/or personal. Not all are in threes, or will happen as such. Luck is not quantifiable-it is as the Universe decides, and what happens is what's deemed fair. A wise witch once told me: "If you cannot sue or press charges, move on. Use your magic to bring what you want to see in the world; use it for good and not spite." That being said, a well-timed hex can just as much be a blessing for many as much as it is a curse for one.

You could mix your ritual tea and bath experience by making a pot of herbal tea, strain it, and pour it over your body in ritualistic manner, in the shower. Ta-da! No bits to clean out of the drain later. Oh, and they make shower bombs now. They are more for the scented steam. I think you put it in the bottom of the shower so the hot water can hit it and make your shower smell nice. I got one for Christmas but haven’t used it yet. 😊

Thank you for talking about the 3 fold law, karma, and cosmic justice. I have discussions with people all the time where I ask them to think very hard about what the world would be like if their idea of karma was real. The sorts of people you mentioned do whatever they like and face zero consequences, so a fantasy people have of them experiencing some kind of justice doesn't sit well with me either. More often than not it just doesn't happen, and it's important to face that reality! Another great video, thank you. 😊

I'm a Buddhist, and actually the believe in karma is much of what she described with this pebbles metaphor, than pop-culture understanding of it being "points" for bad and good deeds. It's just cause and effect in action - things we do collectively as humans adding up and having a collective effect. Treating karma like a point system is actually, in my opinion, understanding this concept through abrahamic religion lense. When Buddhist thinks of karma, it's like: given big enough time frame and many reincarnations, ripple causes of your actions will hit you, but not because "you" earned this bad karma, because our collective actions through miriad cause and effect are working. Also concept of "you" as something separate is a lie xD

I never really took the threefold law at face value, I always understood it as a general warning of karma. Like yeah, if you're not very nice to someone, they're probably gonna match your tone. And they might even over correct and be even nastier to you than you have been to them. Or similarly, if you draw in negative energy to yourself, you'll be wallowing in negative energy, probably worse than the negativity you started out with. You reap what you sow basically, I don't take it as a literal fact that everything you do is multiplied by 3.
