A customer had this Xtracycle swoop bike shipped to us for assembly.
This is my first time working on a bike from this brand and was excited to get to work.
I want to start off by saying, this is not a sponsored video. I have no affiliation with this company other than them shipping it to me for assembly for a customer. I have the fortunate opportunity to assemble and fix a wide range of bikes and e-bikes, so when I have a chance to go over one, I want to take it
With that out of the way, holy s***, this bike is epic!
The frame is chromoly steel and incredibly lightweight. In fact this bike weighs less than “smaller” e-bikes from other major brands. It zips up to speed with such little effort. With the first pedal stroke, I was hooked!
It comes with Shimano’s e-cargo motor. This is a powerful little motor that really holds its own! The battery fully charged in about 4 hours, which is about quicker than I was expecting.
Overall, this bike has a great set of components and you can tell the company is compromised of actual cyclist.
The biggest feature that I appreciate, is the 4 piston hydraulic disc brakes.
The brakes on any bikes are obviously very important, but having the RIGHT brakes is critical! Too many e-bikes these days are coming with incredibly underpowered brakes and this turns into a negative for riders because you have a brake that is rated for use on a normal bike, weighing say 30-35lbs…yet you use it on a bike that ways 2 or 3 times as much and reaches higher speeds more often. Higher speeds means you need more braking power to slow down.
This bike features a Shimano Deore drivetrain. Something that deserves some recognition. A few cheaper cargo e-bikes on the market come with entry level Shimano components and don’t even have a clutch system to help keep the chain tight. The longer the chain, the more it slaps around while riding. With a clutch, it helps hold everything tight and improves shifting.
Not mentioned in the video, the tires are nice Schwalbe puncture resistant tires. A MUST if you’re going to be riding around on city streets.
The bike comes with a built in rack system and the company offers a multitude of different configurations to meet your needs. This customer has kids, so they’ll be using it to ride with them. They added on a front cargo rack with a quick attach bag system for extra storage.
All in all, I’m extremely impressed with this bike. The price tag may be a bit much for the average consumer, but this is most definitely a buy once cry once situation. Having assembled and ridden just about every ecargo bike on the market at this point, the Xtracycle Swoop really shines! I dealt with an extremely small warranty situation during assembly and the team at Xtracycle got me the requested part in 3 days time. There’s a lot to be said about working with a company with quality customer service.
