    Watching you whilst tidying my sewing space, and trying not to suffer from overwhelm! I keep seeing fabric that I like, and sometimes buying it, but I really need to try to re-organise everything so that it will fit into my space. I keep putting it off so that I can sew, but it’s not sensible! Would love to see what skirt you end up making as I don’t have that many patterns for them in my stash, and I want to make a couple because I’ve realised that I spend most of my time making tops and dresses rather than trousers and skirts, and this needs rectifying! Lovely Vlog as usual and hope to catch up soon. Xxx

    Hi, the Friday Pattern Co have nice Sport Shorts or GreenStyle have several different patterns too - some of them with the optional undershorts but you can just skip them... :) Also, I would probably go for a maxi skirt from that beautiful fabric! Take care.

    Im looking much more forward to seeing your wedding sewing than seeing your sewing space! Your sewing space will be so much more realistic once this lovely event in your life takes place! All the best! Take a look at Dizzy Quilts and Sews, (one of your fellow Utubers!) who has just done shorts patterns.

    Try the Friday pattern company sports shoes as a starting point. They have a 3-4 inch inseam but you could probably adapt the pattern and teach us all. I have made some and as a runner with some longer shorts and aspirations to make my own would be interested to see how you get on.

    Hi! I think it's wonderful that you have an in-action running photo. It's one thing to say I've been in a 10k, quite another to have proof. Haha. Also, now that my kids are young adults they are much more interested in pictures of me at their age and what my life was like then. On to sewing! Have you tried the Sports Shorts by Friday Pattern Co.? I'm not sure if they are still free, but I got mine when they were offered as a free pattern. They are a very classic sort of shorts but they are long enough for running and give your thighs room and air.

    Is there a reason why the D cup option starts at a size 14? I'm a size 0 with a 28DD bust so I'm kinda curious how this would work out. It's so cute!

    • @SoWhatIfISew
      @SoWhatIfISew 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      So I have absolutely no idea! I think it's just the size cup they normally use in the higher size range. Also its not a bra makers C/D cup, its a dressmaking one, so a dressmaker's B cup is a 2 inch difference between high bust and full bust, a C is 3 inches and a D is 4 as far as I'm aware (really really sorry if you already know this - not trying to be that person 😅) For reference I'm a 30FF (which is why I made the tie back) and there was a nice amount of room in the size 4!

    Hi Jess, lovely to see you back. I made my wedding dress,vail,headdress,two adult bridesmaids dresses and a winter dressing gown. This was all 40 years ago now with no central heating in an old house, hence the dressing gown. I wasn’t working at that time so had plenty of time for sewing. I still had nightmares of walking up the aisle with bridesmaids dresses sleeves missing pins everywhere. It did all go to plan for the big day in the end. Try not to over do things while your making all the things and studying. You don’t want to burn out. Wedding dress and study first and if TH-cam is to much, come back to it when you can. I can’t wait to see your finished wedding dress. Such an exciting and terrifying thing to do all at once. I remember it well lol. Wish there was a way to send you photos of my wedding. Very 80s off the shoulder number with lace overlay. I had my hair permed not long before the wedding, such a stupid thing to do. That’s why I had to make a last minute flower headband 🙄 Good luck with your dress and enjoy your wedding day ❤

It’s also a pretty solitary activity and you have to put a lot of your own drive and energy into it even when things aren’t going as you hoped. @@SoWhatIfISewYou're doing really well creating balance in your life and finding time for things other than academic work. It's a marathon. It might be interesting that, I once went to a great talk once by Jorge Cham the author behind PhD Comics who was discussing the landscape of Doctoral candidates' mental health, and why there's such a high incidence of crisis. Some thoughts I came away with, and from my experience - you get a whole group of people who have generally started on this path by being good at academic work, and task them with a long-running project which requires huge effort and a lot of inevitable uncertainty, and often failure, before anybsuccess; and the successes can be quite a wait to get to. There's a lot of criticism along the way, constructive and not, too. By the end of my PhD I came away thinking that simply 'ability to keep going' was the single biggest contributor to getting to the finish line. You got this 💪

    I got married in 2003. I had a long, full skirt in ivory. I had a sleeveless bodice which had boning to support it. It was a deep red with beautiful bedding. A lot along the top line of the bodice and reducing on the way down. It cost £500 and that was a lot then. When you said how much the silk was i nearly choked. I cannot imagine what it would have cost to make the dirty in that fabric. Re dancing- i did Strip the Willow in that dress before I changed into my dress for the evening. It was epic :0) Best wishes for your wedding and your life together.

    Think its really good that you only post when you want to. You tube etc puts a lot of pressure on people to produce content and although I love watching you, I think ordinary life should be a priority!

    Congrats on 4 years Jess! It's been amazing to watch you learn so much in that time. Sew Yellow For Endo is definitely a massive achievement. I think you should do some 'pouch of Douglas' merch next year 😂

    Love that you are making your wedding dress. You are obviously putting in all the prep to make it just perfect. I wish you all the best for the day. Just remember, it's sometimes the little things that don't go quite right on the day which end up making the day memorable and really special. I was so wound up before my wedding day, wanting everything to be perfect. In hindsight that was just silly. My mother made my dress. Bear in mind this was in the early 1980's, so very much inspired by Princess Di's dress (puffy, off the shoulder boned bodice with a multi layered skirt). We went off to London in high excitement to buy material. The wind was slightly taken out of our proverbial sails when we realised how much our planned silk organdie would cost. We could have afforded it (just), but I said to my Mum that I thought it would be too extravagant. Having seen the Vogue pattern we had decided upon, the very kind and professional gent in the (high end) fabric store in South Moulton Street suggested a crisp cotton organdie. What an inspired suggestion! Given it is such a light but stable fabric it gave the finished gown a lightness and structure it wouldn't otherwise have had. The outer skirt just captured the light. I'll never forget the first time I tried the (partly finished) gown on. That emotional 'catch' in the throat as I realised what a stunner it was going to be. The more expensive silk organdie that we'd originally planned just wouldn't have had the same impact.
