But my pontiled fancy cologne wasn't far behind. 😁 Good variety at this show, and it is where Drew and I met, 21 years ago! That tiny "antidote to cocaine" bottle is a gem! Hi Christopher, Glad you enjoyed the video. That was more of a work day, so not as many keepers. But I'm pleased with the Kickapoo Oil bottle! Creepy doll will join the others. I should post a pic from the basement for Halloween! 😱 I guess many of our viewers gave up on us during our break. Channel is doing badly now. In a way it makes me not want to bust my butt to get another video out, but we do have loyal viewers like you... And so I will keep on putting up videos. I do enjoy the comments each week, and miss them when I don't put a vid up. The next will be a bottle show, if I can get that one done in time. Not sure how long it is yet. Plenty more river hunts in the queue as well. It was a busy summer! Leaves are falling here now, and we will go down to freezing Wed night. 🥶 Our hummingbirds have left, until next April. Hi Emily, Yes, I do worry about that. I don't go in if I have an open cut. And I usually suit up (to protect from leech bites) There are toxins in the river as well. And snapping turtles! Big ones! 😬 Despite having thick soled diving boots on, I still got a piece of glass stuck in my foot this summer. That kept me out for a couple of weeks. There are definitely dangers with this hobby. Thank you for asking. It is a valid question. -Cathy💖

Hi Anthony, We have been cleaning this river for 20 years! We had storms and floods last year, and a drought this year. Storms uncover a lot of stuff. And people are still littering, so there's always "new" trash too. But people and industries have been dumping in Mass rivers for 200+ years. We will never get it all, but we are making a difference. As you can see, most of it really is trash 🗑️. We don't usually show all that in our videos. It's a matter of discovering what doesn't belong with the rest.. that one old thing mixed in with the new. Rescuing a bit of history in the process. It never gets dull out there! 😁💖

@@massriverpickers - 20 years?!!!!! Wow!!!! Just...WOW!!!!! I would love to hear about some of the best finds during that 20 years!!!! I bet you found some absolute treasures!!!! Have you found gold?!!! Like gold jewelry? Rings, bracelets, necklaces?!!! That must be so much fun!!!! I am so jealous!!! I had major back surgery in 2018. I have 14 titanium screws and a bunch of stainless steel hardware holding my spine together, so I can hardly walk let alone wade a river. I use to be an avid fisherman, and I would be in the river for about 12 hours in the summer, and about 8 hours in the winter. Fishing for steelhead and/or salmon, depending on which fish was running, time of year, etc. Those days are long gone though. I do miss it terribly. But I also just turned 68 recently, so I've got that going for me!!! LOL!!!!! Thanks for taking us along, as usual it was amazingly awesome!!!!! You guys are the best!!!! Lots of love from Washington state!!!!!

Hi Anthony, Ouch! Just hearing about all that hardware in your spine.. Wow! 😯 What on earth happened to you? (Not really my business.. you don't have to tell me). I have always loved the outdoors too. I went through a terrible time in my 20's. I was homebound, even bedridden for years.. I never thought I would get my life back. I still have some health issues, but at least I get out. As far as what we found in the years before TH-cam, that is mostly what our book is about (that we self-published in 2018). Have you seen our book? Anyway, My best GOLD finds did not actually happen until this year! I think it was ( March? ) The video where I found that 18k gold crucifix. THAT is my best gold find ever! In our book, I show a pair of old silver earrings I found in a milk glass cosmetic jar, in the river. You just never know! I have found a few silver rings, and a bakelite bracelet on video also. All were just eye-balled finds! Some day I will get a video series up about my metal detecting finds over years, on my Dad's old farm. I'm just sorry I had to sell the place.. I wasn't done yet! But it was a huge property that needed a lot of work, and Drew just retired Lol. But there's a heck of a story to be pieced together from finds spanning 300 years! I just wish I knew more about the people who lived there way back (names, etc). I'm still searching for answers. Anyway, I'm so sorry you can't get out in the rivers anymore. I don't fish, but I still have my Dad's "Ted Williams" fishing rod. He used to fish for trout, mostly. I tried fishing with him when I was a kid, but it didn't catch on. He did however, get me my first metal detector, and my first 35mm camera, and got me into bird watching, which are all hobbies I still enjoy to this day. When I am down, and can't go out, I live vicariously through others' videos. I really enjoy seeing what other people are finding... Rocks Cousteau, Nicola White, Aqua Chigger etc. I am glad if our videos can get you "outdoors" for a while. Sorry we were away so long (a month?) But sometimes life does get tough. Drew and I both had some setbacks last month, but we're both well now. We're getting a little old for this... But we'll keep going as long as we can! -Cathy💖

Hi Amanda! Wow, you're up early (or are you still up?) I will probably pull an all-nighter, as we need to leave here at 5am for a bottle show in Connecticut. I need to have food, etc. ready to go! As for the Assabet, I think it was one of the most polluted rivers in Mass, at one time. Although my "marble river " had an even worse reputation. The water would actually change color, according to the product being manufactured that day! The factories used to dump in the rivers. Parts of the Concord river have been off limits for fishing for decades, due to mercury levels. Hat factories used mercury in the process of manufacture, hence the term "mad hatter". 😬 The Kickapoo bottle was my fav find... It is different from the others we have. The Indian (native American ) names and images (and sometimes the actual people) were exploited to sell product (medicines). Some traveled with medicine shows. This Kickapoo med would have been part of that! It's history. Mary is always a tremendous help at our cleanups, and has been helping us out for many years. I'm always happy when she finds something good! She's a hard worker. We are as well as can be expected at our age Lol. This hobby is getting tougher these days.😛 Hope all is well with you also. 🙂💖

@@NB-nu5vn No, we do not. But we're saving some for that purpose (for someone else to do). Pencil holder is a great idea, but not sure I would want to drink out of these bottle/glasses. That black crud on them contains moderate (but no enough to report) levels of lead and arsenic! Not sure you can completely wash that out. Just something to consider.🤔 -Cathy
