Hi Anthony! Marbles galore, after all the storms we had. We are in for more storms this weekend, so the river will be re-stocked! Trouble is, having to wait for low water again. But I do have another hunt to share next week. (Marbles and bottles!) Thanks always for your comments! -Cathy 😁💖
Hey Cathy and Drew! WOW!! Impressive marble haul- plus that sign..... and toys .. and and and... so much fun to watch 😄 Thanks so much for taking us along! Best wishes to all- from snowy Maine!
Hi There! 👋😃😎 Glad you enjoyed the hunt! One of our best marble days! It was worth the wait (for low water). We are getting rain/snow/slop here in Mass., and it will be a while until the rivers come down again now. But I do have another vid to upload next week (a solo hunt, as Drew had to work) More mudlarking: marbles, bottles, and vintage do-dads. Best wishes to you too! (From sloppy Mass.) -Cathy💖
Hi Susan, I think that's my favorite marble also (Creamcicle)... looks like a bit of honey in it too! What I love about a vintage swirl like that is that no two are alike! That marble is one of a kind (pattern). Definitely to much fun! Lol -Cathy😁💖
Thank you Cathy! Even Drew was enjoying finding marbles that day. I went back again, for a solo hunt, you will see next week. Not as many marbles, but a good variety of finds! 😃👍
Thank you Sarah! Spring is playing tricks on us here.. colder temps returned this week. But I still have another marble/bottle hunt to share next week! Happy Spring to you too! -Cathy🙂🌸🌷🐇🐦
Hi Cynthia 👋😃😎 Yes, we are lucky to have this spot to hunt, when water is low. We just wish it stayed low all season! These were all vintage marbles too! We were really on the swirls!! I really love the orange "Creamcicle" one. -Cathy💖
Hi Gloria! What a day we had for marbles! But as you can see, condition varies. If I get just a few in 👌 condition, I'm happy. Yes, the cars are fun too! I wish I still had my collection of matchbox cars, from my childhood. (I was a bit of a tomboy). I have plans to make a small scale junk yard diarama some day. 😄 -Cathy 💖
Wow, nice that you kept your toys for so long, and that your son appreciates them! Many children are not interested in what their parents (or grand parents) saved or collected. And toys are such happy things! I collect some old toys, and especially old Cracker Jack prizes. Wish I still had those old matchbox cars though. I could buy them at flea markets, but it's not the same. -Cathy💖
Hi There! 👋😃 I had to do this outing in two parts.. so many marbles to clean and photograph! And it would have been a looong video otherwise. Water was still low, so I went back (next week's vid). Glad part 2 did not disappoint! I actually think most of the best marbles were in part 2. Thanks for your comments! -Cathy👋😃😴
Hi Marcie! We don't usually find this many marbles per outing. Last season's record rainfall "re-stocked" the rivers! Now the water is high again 🙄. Another marble/bottle hunt will go up next weekend though! BTW, if your creek is mucky, it will be hard to see marbles.. or if the trash is pre-1930, marbles will be more scarce (usually). This creek, most of the trash is 1930-1950s (prime years for vintage marbles). Good luck out there, and be careful! -Cathy💖
Hi C and D! That lark looked like great fun! So many nice marbles! I found one in my yard one day, I was so thrilled!😂 (my house built 1925). It's the little things😊 Cheers from Pennsylvania! Larisa
Hi Larisa, It WAS a really fun marble hunt! One of our best ever! So you found a marble in your yard! 😃👍 Funny story: I had misplaced my (keys or garage door opener 🤔) and as I looked at the dirt driveway, by my car, I saw a cat eye marble, half buried! The only one I have ever found in our yard! Although, lately I have even been finding marbles while out metal detecting! 😄 You just never know.. Always be looking! 👀 -Cathy💖
Hi Cathy and Drew, fun video! I like the monster truck and the coffin car, I haven't seen anything like them before 😁 I didn't realise the connection between the hobble skirt and coke bottles, I can see the inspiration though lol (Women's fashions have been weird!) I love the bumble bee marble! What a wonderful day you had! Hope you are both well 😀💖x
Hi Amanda, We are doing well. Hope your progress is continuing along! 🙏 💖 Those toy cars were spooky! ☠️ They would have been good finds for a Halloween video. I like finding toys! 🙂 The hobble skirt 😂 Can you imagine hobbling around in one of those?? And it was sure to make one look more plump! Funny how styles change, although I'm not sure humans are dressing much better nowadays😬. (Certainly modesty left a long time ago). Anyway, what a marble day that was! Drew's bumble bee is nice! I think my fav is the orange Creamcicle one though (not its real name). I've never seen one like it! I had one more chance to get out (solo hunt) before the storms came. Not as many marbles, but a good variety of finds, including a few bottles, and what-nots. That will be next week's video. 😁💖
@@massriverpickers I'm looking forward to it already! I'm doing really well, but the weather isn't lol, so I haven't had the chance to go anywhere but I'm ok with that, there's time yet. See you next week 😃💖x
Thanks Angela! If you're finding pipe stems, you will eventually find some with maker or place of manufacture. Most we find around here are McDougall / Glasgow. This one was Davidson / Glasgow. We only have a few of those. Good luck!!! 🤞😁 -Cathy💖
That spot is great for marbles! But the water is seldom low enough there to get in. But the storms re-stock it with more marbles every year! I have a couple more recent marble hunts here to upload yet. One trip was record breaking! 😁💖
What an awesome spot to creek walk! I really wonder if there are any marble rivers up here in New Hampshire? What do you think the story is with all those marbles in that river?? You think the kids were shooting them in the water with sling shots? Another awesome adventure Drew and Cathy. Thanks for sharing.
Hi There! We don't know why there are sooo many marbles in this stretch of river, except that people dumped trash there (ca. 1930- 1950s). Those are the most productive years for vintage marbles (but kinda not old enough for bottles, except for occasional milks or deco sodas). We have heard that kids used to shoot marbles into the rivers, but we think more likely, they were discarded with the trash. Funny, you guys are finding all this SILVER up north, and you're looking for a marble river!! 😄 (We've been watching your recent vids.. need to go back and leave some comments. You're really killing it at that beach that keeps giving! Mason's a silver magnet! 😯😎👍) -Cathy (& Drew)
your very welcome i was born in mass but i live in maine my whole life i was born in Brockton and have friends and family in Abington @@massriverpickers
So you must be used to our accents! 😄 (Well, actually, Drew is from Staten Island.. I tease him a lot). I grew up in Mass. And all those years, I never knew there were marbles (or bottles) in the rivers here! 🤔 But by age 15, I was digging bottles in the woods. Drew and I met at an antique bottle show, many years later. We are more than an hour away from Brockton. -Cathy (& Drew)
I think it was (same pipe), cuz the clay matches so well, and they were not too terribly far apart (walking distance). The marbles were unbelievable! -Cathy💖
Have you two ever found some marbles that turned color? I found two ,a white and green swirl, and a blue and white swirl. The white part turned gray about two weeks later. Had me cofused for a sec. Thought my wife played a trick on me. I found them in a park where an ampitheatre use to be.
Hi There, Hmm, marbles changing color? 🤔 Not sure about that... I have only seen them change (glow) under UV light. We have seen old bottles and milk glass jars turn purple, when exposed to sunlight, or purposely "irradiated". Perhaps they were exposed to something chemical at some point? (I am only guessing). That is very interesting! -Cathy 👋😃
I think our record is around 26?? Not sure, (and that may actually be counting half a marble) Lol 😄 Either way, 20+ is an extraordinary number of marbles to find in one outing! -Cathy💖
Hello Cathy and Drew. This was another awesome video to watch. Part 2 is as good as Part 1. Lew and I enjoyed watching these very much. Wow, so many nice marbles came out of that river and what nice finds they are. 🙂Lew and i like the Monster truck and we have wheels for that. Would you sell that to us or trade something for it? 🙂 Sad to see the broken Chandelier in the river. Too bad people put liter in that river. That clay pipe was a nice find even though it was a half of one. That was a bigger size pipe to. We hope to dig on or near my birthday that is on 03/29/24 and I'm going to be fifty seven years old. We are looking forward to watching more of your videos. Take care and happy hunting to the both of you. ----Jeffrey Hull Jr. (Jeff & son Lew.)
Hi Jeff & Lew, Glad you enjoyed Part 2. There were definitely some above average marbles in this one! Hmm 🤔, I will have to think about that monster truck! Lol Anyway, now with all this rain, the rivers are way up again. But I have another marble/bottle hunt to upload yet, for next week. It will be a solo hunt, as Drew had to work ☹️. Hope this weather improves, and you can go digging on your b-day, maybe find something great! Best wishes, Cathy (& Drew) 👋😃😎👍
I think I’m going to start keeping my eyes open for bumble bee’s , they “speak” to me. The Grave Digger came to our town in Arkansas back in the 90’s. It was a big deal. They had radio contests & giveaways all week. I did not get it ???? Until today I had no idea why Coca Cola bottles were called hobble skirts …. Thanks for the information. The man in that photo you featured looked “excited” 😅 📸 Hope you guys aren’t snowed in !!
No, we didn't get snowed in... It was more of a "wintery mix" (slushy snow and rain). Enough to make the rivers go waaay up again.🙄 But don't worry, I've got plenty of vids still to edit. Maybe this will give me some time to catch up. And the return of winter brought 45 or 46 turkeys to our back door this week! They will split up again in the spring/summer. 🦃🦃🦃🐿️ It's getting a bit 🤑 💰 to feed them all. Monster truck: I love finding toy cars, but memories of a ride in a high school friend's truck w huge tires, through the sand pit was enough for me! We almost flipped over 😵. Grave digger Lol. ☠️ Bumble bee marbles are fun to find cuz they are so brightly colored and easily recognized. 🐝 -Cathy
Hi There, Most of our videos already have CC. For some reason, this video, and a few others, I am unable to select that option. I do, however, add many captions throughout every video, so that everything is explained. But if you click on the CC button, most of our videos do have closed captions available (in English). Thank you for letting us know this one is not working. I do not know how to fix it though. I do all videos the same way, and cannot explain why some videos don't have the CC option. Sorry about that. -Cathy💖
