    Hey I know you fiddle with different platforms like i do . Have you ever had a glock optic get battered by the outgoing casings ? If so would a good start be the ejector? I changed the extractor to a shadow system and really didn't do much. I have an sro style optic so it sits further forwards.

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      It may be unavoidable with a forward sitting optic shroud, but here are some things to try. I had a similar issue on my Sig P320 M18. Check out this video. I go into detail about what fixed it: th-cam.com/video/naSinWRz5M0/w-d-xo.html Likely you can make slight modifications to the ejector face and get it fixed. Here are some detailed photos of the modifications: www.reddit.com/user/rrppdd4/comments/1brnix8/p320_ejector_mods/ Your recoil spring weight may be too heavy as well. Higher slide velocity (with a lighter recoil spring) will eject casings with more gusto and get them out of the way of your optic. Check that an optic mounting screw is not binding up your extractor spring and plunger as well. Hope this helps. let me know what fixed it if you get it remedied!

I hope he can learn from your videos and start messing with his guns himself instead of selling them or trading them for different guns

      1911s are a different animal for sure. If you're used to Glocks or other Lego guns you may be in for a rude awakening when you start working on one of these. I remember when I first started working on 1911s it was so damn frustrating because I didn't know what was going on, I didn't understand the mechanics of the pistol, or how the components affect the system. The 1911 is this video was my first 1911 and i have been tinkering on it for 10 years. Its taken that long for me to feel really comfortable with this platform. However, every time I work on one of these I learn something new or learn a better way to do something. I'm going back thru this pistol right now because the trigger job I did last - about 5 years ago... was kind of shit. I can do it better now. In another 5 years i'll probably do it even better haha.

    nice content! purchased ruger lpc max 75 th anniversary model for ultra lite pocket carry. the stainless slide was a great up grade for rust and corrosion in hot sweaty Florida beach carry. I added stainless guide rod and 13 pound recoil spring, and I dis liked the ruger aluminum trigger that came on the little gun. Replaced with mcarbo trigger and heaver spring with trigger pull just under 5 pounds which is minimum for a pocket mouse gun for me. end results was stainless slide and plastic grip, not much can rust except the pins, and springs, that were treated with frog lube. I have shot this very small mouse gun at 15 yards with 10 shot in 6 inch circle with zero hiccups. solid carry piece when the 9mm its too big in a shirt pocket!

      @@HalcyonDefense do you think what I am showing here is "cutting threads?" The threads are already cut. They were cut poorly. I am cutting the muzzle face to account for thread misalignment. Accurate language is important to me so I'm gonna be a sitckler about it. This is a risky way to correct for that misalignment, no doubt about that. I'm really surprised it worked myself. Not really encouraging people to do this, just showing one way it can be done outside of barrel replacement. That is the best option. However this rifle has about 1000 round thru it shooting suppressed since this. I am confident what I did provided a solid mount for my muzzle device and suppressor mounting interface. I think I mainly got lucky that the play between the threads and muzzle device was enough to account for the non-concentricity off the muzzle threads.

    I have a question sir. Shouldn't the ports be made smaller to increase the pressure of the gas escaping the top of barrel/slide and wouldn't less space for gas to escape cause higher pressure as well ?

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dude I got so into the weeds about the port size when I was designing my porting layouts. The fluid mechanics of compressible supersonic flow is unbelievably complicated. This is also a very transient, continually changing problem as there is no steady state as gas is leaving the ports. What you're saying tracks. If im understanding you correctly. Smaller diameter ports would maintain higher pressure levels inside the barrel as the bullet passes the ports and they start releasing gas. That higher pressure level inside the barrel would also propell the gasses out at higher velocity. Once the gas leaves the port it will expand and be atmospheric pressure in a matter of milliseconds. I think maybe in my P-10 porting video I talked about this a little. Why I prioritized smaller ports. Energy of a moving body or substance is proportional to its mass and velocity squared. I therefor wanted to prioritize gas velocity (with smaller ports) to maximize the energy of the gas leaving the ports to create a greater equal and opposite reaction force to push the muzzle down. Since this porting job (the second one I did) I have not been drilling holes this big. i dont port larger than 7/64" (.109") diameter now. In theory for a given total cross sectional port area, more smaller ports would be more efficient at mitigating muzzle flip than less larger ports. In practice I cant tell a damn difference. That is getting into such a small difference in recoil characteristics and there is so much uncertainty and variation that comes from ammo, and a human shooting it I don't think anyone could notice. I dont know if that answered your question? I think the answer is yes?

    Does the bull barrel not account for better shooting, longevity, better quality than the regular Tisas barrel…?

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Barrel material is the same. Different finish. The bull barrel was fit better than the barrel on my tisas but they were both not very great fits due to being cheap guns. Accuracy is more related to lock up. A bushing barrel and bull barrel have the same capability for good accuracy with proper fitting. A bull barrel lock up and fit wouldnt last any longer than a bushing barrel for any reason really. The bull barrel has more non-reciprocating mass. Generally shoots a little softer.

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Tisas offers threaded barrels for the 1911 DS. They are standard 9mm 1911 bushing barrels. You can absolutely have a extended and threaded bull barrel. Sometimes bull barrels will be turned down and fit with a thread on sleeve that is then matched to the slide. And that extends forward with the standard thread. I dont know of any threaded barrels specific to the mac9. I dont know if there is a "standard" bull barrel size either.

    I think you missed the equal and opposite reaction of the recoil spring against the firing hand, which would make the compressive load of heavier springs potentially feel like more recoil. At least in the 2011 world, most shooters seem to prefer the impulse of 9 and 10 lb springs over stock 12lb springs to increase slide velocity and reduce the "pushyness" of heavier recoil springs.

      I agree a heavier recoil spring would likely contribute to more of a "push" in the hand. A lighter recoil spring will allow higher slide velocity. The slide will hit the rear of its travel harder creating more of a snap.

      I have swapped them and they fit just fine on each others frame. Didnt shoot them like that though, so not 100% confirmation.

    Watched this series of videos before I bought my Tisas DS Duty (5"). Nothing on the videos seemed to be a red flag for me to warrant spending $1200 on a Prodigy instead of $600 from battlehawk. Trigger - Mine came at 6# and about a mile of creep. Squared the hammer hooks and stoned them to 0.020". Re-cut sear angles, set primary width to 0.020" and polished. Swapped trigger for Staccato long, set overtravel with a check for half-cock rub. Set sear spring to a 1# 4oz takeup/1st stage and a 3# break, nice and crisp. Grip - Swapped to a Prodigy with SA mag release (already textured) and textured the grip similar to yours. Added EGW magwell that went on with minimal trimming of plastic. MSH - Installed EGW Prodigy MSH (steel) with 19# mainspring. Bushing - EGW gunsmith fit 0.703" OD and 0.577" ID based on my measurements. MUCH tighter. Optic - Vortex Defender CCW 6moa. This dot includes the 1degree shim and screws for just about anything. Mine went right on. Only real issue I had was the bottom of the grip safety had to get about 1/16" of metal removed to work with the Prodigy grip and EGW MSH. I am still tweaking that a little as it takes very little movement to release the trigger. The Tisas/Checkmate mags need a taller basepad to reliably seat in the magwell, but they work fine. The 20rd Prodigy mags work 100%. Since installing the upgrades, this pistol now easily holds the 10 ring on a B8 target at 25 yards. It has fed 115gr Blazer Brass, 124gr Blazer Brass, 147gr Blazer Brass, 147gr Sig JHP and my reloads without ANY (none, zero, zilch) malfunctions. That is for a total of 350 rounds so far. The 1:10" twist barrel shoots those 147s REALLY well. I have Just under $1100 in this pistol, including the optic, and I still haven't spent as much as buying a Prodigy that in my experience, isn't as accurate.

    Great video! Much like the other 1911/2011 tutorials, I think this one will be good, evergreen content for the future. Also, holy shit, an hour and a half is a ton of time/effort put into this. I'm just thinking about the editing/rendering time, let alone the actual filming/planning. As always, love the video!

      Much appreciated man! Yeah this one took a long time. Probably a week of evenings writing the script. Another week of evenings filming and doing the work. And a 3rd week of editing. I probably took apart 6 different guns 5 times each haha. I hope its helpful to a lot of people!

    V ports vs inline ports, Can anyone help me understanding which style has the most benefit in countering muzzle flip?

    • @EngineersArmory
      @EngineersArmory 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Inline will be more effective in reducing muzzle flip. I think I talk more about why in my P-10F porting video. The jist of it is... We want to push the muzzle straight down.. So we want the vented gas to go straight up. V-ports vent gas at an angle off the vertical. That means part of their energy is going to pushing the muzzle sideways (an equal amount each direction so you cant feel it). In practice, the difference is probably not noticeable. But from a physics stand point we want as much gas as possible going straight up to push the muzzle straight down. Inline ports do this. V ports dont. Hope this helps.

  • @customcutter100

    Great video! Most people will have trouble with "rocking" the file or stone, so that they won't have a square flat surface. Glad you cautioned them about it. A trick that I learned when making custom knives was to take a 1/8" or 3/32 brass rod and cut off a small section about 2" long, then cut a split in the end of it about 1/2" deep. Then you can insert and wrap wet/dry sand paper around the slit in the end of the rod, making a "flap wheel". Use it in your dremel or foredom tool to remove heavy coatings or deep scratches. I picked up my Mac 9 on Tuesday, but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Overall I am impressed with it. Tolerances are good with very little slop in the slide fit, barrel locks up good, and it tight at the muzzle. Trigger is a little heavy, I'll try to adjust to around 4# for a EDC gun. Also plan on replacing the springs and polishing everything up when I get home next month. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

      Thanks for sharing that tip. Good one for making a little flappy paddle polishing wheel! Sounds like you got a fun project ahead with the MAC9.
