home decor I don't think you should buy & why
มุมมอง 34Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Hi hi! Missed you guys ✨ This week I was feeling a bit judgmental so I'm running through home decor that I really really *really* don't like. I'm specifically talking about mass produced products that I frequently see people buy at big box stores. The reason I don't like these things basically comes down to the fact that they just feel super inauthentic, unoriginal, or generally lacking any leg...

I really hate the exposed lightbulb. I made the mistake of picking a clear shade for a fixture next to my desk and I absolutely NEVER turn it on! It’s an eyesore when turned on; too jarring, bright, and right at eye level no less. I can’t wait to replace it.

I need tips for getting a tolerable daylight feel in a house in a climate where we don't get a lot of sun for much of the year. I love cozy orange lighting, but my brain craves that refreshing blue light during the way and the orange starts to feel too heavy, to me.

I love the points you make and the way you present it but I’m actually starting to like the little fake candles haha. I picked up some little LED votives to use at night in a space with no outlets, and i guess cuz it’s not trying super hard to look like a real candle and just looks like a little pillar lamp I don’t really mind it

In Australia we don’t have rugs in the kitchen. Kitchens have spills, grease, food crumbs etc. Too hard to keep a rug clean in that area. This also applies to a rug under a dining / kitchen table. Agree with switching out the loungeroom ceiling light, rug and coffee table. The black credenza / sideboard can be styled with warm wood trays, ceramic vases, brass candlestick holders and a large lamp with a warm colour lampshade. Roman blinds for the windows because they aren't large.

I absolutely love this series!! I've already learnt SO much, like I really feel how the optics in my brain are changing and I'm finally starting to see the problems/solutions myself for the fist time in my life, which makes me SO happy!! Noah, if you have the time/resources, would you consider the possibility of adding photoshopping the new elements in the pictures as you go to the video? Even in a sketchy way maybe? Anyway thank you thank you thank you!

ngl the whole “everything should be authentic or it’s not good” is kind of giving me a bad vibe. you seem like you have really nice taste, but authentic pieces are just not always accessible. a lot of people simply can’t afford or find things like that near them, especially outside of big cities. I looked for months trying to find a rug that was the right color, not basically destroyed, affordable, and also the right size. I ended up purchasing a new rug that has the vintage style I was going for and fits the room I put it in. it’s no different from buying a newly made mid-century style sofa imo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think it’s giving me the same vibe I get from fashion youtubers who think you should only shop vintage and never pieces that are vintage inspired and/or only shop from authentic indie brands or designers instead of big stores. it’s just not accessible

Your style and advices are on point. I really appreciate your style choices and the eye you have for unique furniture. I'm curious about how to make design choices when this style of furniture isn't readily available. Facebook Marketplace isn't very useful in our area (I live in Croatia, near Slovenia), and local stores don't carry this type of furniture either. Where can I source this kind of furniture without spending several thousand dollars on a single piece, assuming I even find it?

I think the language Noah uses is not only constructive, but also explicative while many design advice is vague or loose (which is good in certain cases I must admit). I first tend to watch videos with audio because i have vision issues. and if it doesn't make sense, I tend to doubt the advice (even with good visuals for some reason).

I enjoy hearing and seeing your aesthetics in a home, Noah. Your eyes give me good ideas for my apartment. I appreciate that very much. This completed apartment brings one problem, though. How does one use the shelves behind the couch? How does one select a book? Remove a book from the shelf? Doesn't there need to be ample room between the shelving and the couch to stand comfortably, perhaps even to stand on a small step or two to reach the top shelf? The shelving looks great, but does it work for its purpose? No, I don't have an immediate solution to the problem, but it bothers me that books are inaccessible. Otherwise, I would love to live in this space. Your eyes create home!

You show so many great little furniture and lighting photos in your videos. I’m sure most are vintage and chances of finding similar are slim. Others look new but incredibly expensive. Could you do a video with some approachable pieces that are available and somewhat affordable? Maybe options from places other than big box stores or a combination of both?

Unpopular opinion here : I do like accent walls, particularly when there is no architectural detail to highlight. I thing it brings a pop of color and a different energy to the room, without looking too crowded, and I like that it looks, well, soft. And when it has some kinds of details in it i feel it's almost art, but you did it yourself. I feel like if I owned my home, I would totally paint some details and stuff on my walls. Or invest in a giant canvas and paint it, but I kinda like the idea of having your art as your home. Though I find it rather inconvenient if you want to change the vibe of the room.

I agree with your choices, Noah. I would probably change the living room pendant light first as this will make a big impact quickly and, if your budget is limited at the moment, opt for cushions and throws to soften the sofa and chair and add a few storage baskets for warmth. The rest can be dealt with over time.
