      I'm watching this video from Firefox. But Mozilla is increasingly moving away from her former ideals. Neither quality nor ideal feels like a lose-lose situation.

      I wouldn't worry about it then. If you're content with Firefox, just stay with Firefox. Use what you know you're comfortable with.

    with how bad the chrome / chromium will get with ADS, the market share of firefo will grow.

      Well, at the very least, they'll be some people that leave chrome/chromium for something else. I hope they go to firefox, but you never know what the next big thing is.

      @@ImZipux the next big thing will show up whenever people have a reason to depart from firefox. which will show up when firefox has any issues to fix. At the moment, all of the issues that FF users seem to be experiencing are very obviously associated with Google-provided services and are easily circumventable. the reason you gave in the video for people choosing chrome over firefox is that chrome "exists" and "is the most popular browser", which I don't quite follow.
      Well actually I do follow it, the path it took me in looks like this:

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You make an excellent point about the next big thing. I personally don't think there's anything wrong with Firefox. I think it's fine just the way it is. Some people like the Google environment and wanna stay in it. And I think I see your point? That the logic is kinda circular? People want what others are using. It's no different than the situation with Wayland. People feel like they have to go to Wayland because everyone else is going to it. That's all I meant by that. Like, it's the new (not new though), shiny thing that everyone wants so they can be cool. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough on that part of the video.

    Politics is very relevant to tech.
    Labor policy affects tech workers. Government contracts affect companies (& bolster closed source software). Platform's ability to self-censor is highly political & protected by policy. Right To Repair (or lack thereof) affects both hardware and software. Mergers of tech companies have regulatory approval processes and could be blocked by stronger antitrust regulations. Global relations with china, taiwan, and other countries affects the tech supply chain. Public school policy and funding affects tech education. Poverty affects individual priorities & ability to afford getting into tech.
    You can't disentangle politics from tech. Idk what DistroTube said but politics is part of basically everything.
    Edit: obvious one, privacy regulations.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux  21 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      My point was never about politics not being relevant to tech, nor was it about disentangling tech politics. Tech politics was not what I had an issue with, as it could be relevant to the conversation about tech, though I personally wouldn't want to discuss even those politics. I just don't want to watch a video about AwesomeWM and someone getting into their conservative views about general politics. That's inappropriate for the video, as it's not what it's about. Again, it's not tech politics I'm concerned about. It's anything else that's political that doesn't belong.

    DistroTube is a Brave shill, I get it everyone has a favorite browser I guess, but I really dont want to run any chromium based browser as my main browser. I dislike Mozillas political crap but if we are going to talk about Politics it normally boils down to the lesser of two evils and Mozilla is that.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux  21 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Used to love Firefox, since it was a slim, fast, resource-friendly browser that let me set text-only zoom PER WEBSITE instead of one general setting.
    So I could have a big font size on websites with lots of text without forms (fanfiction sites for instance), but could leave it small on form-heavy sites like social media.
    And then Firefox kept adding and adding and adding bloatware that just killed its usability for me.
    Now I'm using Opra.
    And am experiencing a similar rise of bloatware (cough "AI" cough). Not nearly as bad yet, but I came to loathe Opera updates.
    Until Mozilla removes like 60% of unnecessary "features" from Firefox, I'm not going back.

    • @ImZipux
      @ImZipux  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, Firefox is definitely customizable in those ways. It's why I like using Firefox. But if the goal is to become more minimal and not so bloated, I completely understand not wanting to run Firefox. There are some things that I don't find useful about Firefox, personally. But for me, I do a lot of customization to it to where I don't see those things that I don't want to see (like, pocket, for example). If I were to switch to something else, it would just be a fork of Firefox. I don't know how much different things would be, but there's just things I rely on Firefox for, as a browser. I've used OperaGX before, and it was good, until it lost all of my bookmarks. The save button did not take affect when I hit it and it erased everything. That's my biggest issue with Opera; I'm still burned from that experience.
