Hunting only wild, sustainable waterfowl with gun and falcons in the Lake District, North-West England.
In fact I enjoy just being outdoors and enjoy most fieldsports especially if it involves a meal at the end of it.
I fish for bass, would like to fish for sea trout. My goal for 2025 fishing season is to catch a Ferox trout from our glacial lakes that adorn the county. My nephews are both mad keen fishermen and will be coming along too.
My German Wirehaired Pointer, Frosty assists in finding and pointing game but won't retrieve as she was trained to work with falcons. I will be training a Labrador in 2025 to bring my meals back and to give Frosty company.
We will be hunting snipe and woodcock in the uplands this coming winter as well as waterfowl all over the UK.
Stay tuned for my outdoor adventures.

Duck shooting an Ice Hole and Evening Flight with a friend
A couple of evening flights. One in a half frozen pond in a cold spell. Not the cold spell was very brief and not approaching anything that would stress the ducks. I feed ducks at two refuges close to 2 tonnes of grain over the winter and like to think my impact is sustainable or more sustainable.
Also took my friend, Gary out for an evening flight and he enjoyed it and got some ducks. Some good shooting. The light was terrible and the GoPro didn't record but we got some shots, fun and footage....

Nearly perfect conditions. Strong winds, dry and a clear sky. I made the most of it. Lots of rainfall gave us floodwater options at last. I love this type of hunting - having to use your scouting and field craft skills to find out where the ducks are feeding and to put yourself in the right place. …..

Inland Wigeon Flight - Wildfowling - The ducks piled in!
มุมมอง 3.8Kวันที่ผ่านมา
Sit down and enjoy an evening flight on an inland pond. Wigeon and teal pile in. I haven't added any narration to keep the sound natural. Hopefully this gives a flavour of night flighting in the UK. The wigeon always come in last and always on the verge of being invisible...but not always.
Wigeon Spring Rolls

Wigeon can taste a little 'salty' from coastal areas and some people don't like eating them. But if you're not eating them or your friends and family don't enjoy them then you shouldn't be harvesting them. They are not a pest species. But..if you're on the fence this will pull you back into the fold and you will view wigeon with the same mouth watering zeal as other ducks. This recipe is a crow...

Another New Gun! - Yildiz 28 Gauge - TSS Shells - Wildfowling Field Test

I picked up a nice little 28 gauge over and under. I plan to get it fully moderated by Hushpower in time for low impact wildfowling. TSS is ideal for subsonic loads as the dense weight carries significant killing power even at lower speeds. Far better even than lead. But first I plan to give the gun a few outings over the remainder of the wildfowl season. The chokes it has come with are a bit t...

Feels far more natural than those pumps actions and semi-autos. ps I have been made aware recently that I had the wrong Yildiz chokes in...
Heavy TSS Duplex Load - 42 grams - Wildfowling
มุมมอง 1.9K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
So with a new gun with a 3 1/2 inch chamber I need to fill up a 3 inch cartridge case with something apart from the 1 oz of TSS. Rather than fill up the stack height with felt or cork I thought why not fill it up with steel? Steel will at least earn its keep by threatening ducks and geese. No wildfowl was ever killed by felt. So, we made a 42 gram (1.5 oz) duplex load. 1 oz of TSS No. 8's and 1...

Has to be the worse sport in the wprld to try to film lol
How late into the evening can you legally shoot waterfowl in the UK? It's sunset here in the US. If only we had an extra half hour!
@@williammink2109 there are no general legal restrictions - you could stay out all night until dawn if you wanted to, and some people do when there is a big moon. Wildfowling clubs however can set restrictions on their pieces of ground and the conditions of some consents in some coastal areas set restrictions on times, but most are well after sunset.
I use Parmesan cheese buffer keeps it nice and tight.
As I've said before, love your channel and your ethos, sustainability in all things, I don't shoot anymore,I sea fish now and have the same outlook on things like yourself, merry Xmas to you and yours, all the best bud
Strange company you keep.

@@stephenleece3319 ahh makes sense now, thought you were just being weird lol
Nice one, and it's great to have company instead of having lonely waits for them to arrive.
I like the solitude to be honest. But it’s nice to share with selected friends and family now and again. Wildfowling is a solitary sport, in my opinion. If it wasn’t it would be pheasant shooting.
@@CumbrianWildfowler Yeah1 I agree, but we used to shoot in Scotland at Carsthorn on the river Nith Below Criffel mountain. This is one of the most dangerous places to shoot; as the tides roll on top of another with a south west wind (which is the best wind to shoot over there) and the sand is full of quaking spots with under ground streams. You can also get stuck just ankle deep in places. Me and my mate Davey had fantastic flights of Pintail and Pinks. One 1st September morning we had a Canada each. Safer! With fantastic memories and great photos of the bags and dawns.
Great evening shoot. I just bagged a pair of GWT yesterday. Shooting hours over here end at sunset.
@@Kevin-tp1se are you in the US mate? Wildfowlers and ducks here are both conditioned to do battle in the darkness. We don’t get ducks flying near sunset like they do over the pond. If we had legal shooting end 30 mins after sunset we would never get a shot as generally that’s when the flight starts. Whether that is an evolved response of the wildfowl to shooting pressure or just the habits of UK wildfowl I don’t know?….
@ Interesting. We probably have a lot more pressure on our waterfowl over here so the general shooting hours are half hour before sunrise to sunset. Except on most managed areas where shooting stops at noon 😳. I’m reminded of pass shooting wood ducks going to their evening roost… they usually wouldn’t start flying until after legal shooting time between sunset and dark 🫣
Good stuff, where do you buy your teal decoys?
Final Approach UK. Really good value and you can pack a dozen or so in a big game bag.
Thank you!
Great shooting. I’m new to wildfowling and learning so much from you videos. Thank you
Sorry Tadhg, I will reply to your email. Just so busy with work and fowling. But o will get back to you mate
@ not a bother. Totally understand. Was out last night and found the teal and duck flight lines. However turns out I was looking the wrong way and a flock of duck flew over my head and no chance of a shot. Every day is a school day. Ohh and ducks with the wind fly so so fast. Like missiles
The 28 bore strikes again 👌👌👍
I’m sold on the 28 bore as a calibre. Not sure about the gun yet but the 28 is so easy to load for and minimises packers etc needed to fill the case when loading with TSS. Im thinking a nice side by side in 28 would be ideal…..trying the various models and calibres is half the fun…
@CumbrianWildfowler I absolutely love mine, its a beretta 691. if its a side by side your after there's plenty of aya no3's knocking about that aren't silly money mate.
Enjoyed that and just subscribed 👍👍
I’m new to it, I’m currently trying to get my first duck or goose. I shoot the solway near annan. What time do you think is best for duck in the morning? Did you say the come back to land early in the morning? Thanks
I wish manufacturers would step up suppressor technology for shotguns is not as taboo as it once was...
Not sure there is a big demand so the motivation may not be there?
Very enjoyable to watch, good commu, insights and tips. Thank you and please keep the videos coming
Thank you, I'm no expert and hopefully try not to come across as one. But I've been hunting these ducks for 30 years with hawk and gun, mostly hawk and I like to think I've picked up a bit of nowse along the way.

Jealous! That's the way to do it. If any one wants to know what a night flight looks like-that's IT!
Thank you, maybe what you said but with a Labrador! next year maybe.....
When my brother and I took up wildfowling in the 70's we we lost a few ducks as we did not have a dog and were using ordinary cartridges; but quickly learnt to avoid shooting them where they could not be retrieved. I have never used a dog and only lost about 2 a season- to diving or not dropping immediately. Live ducks were always shot again before they got too far when decoying. (using cripple stoppers) I have always changed chokes and shot sizes to suit different scenarios; some times with several different cartridges in the auto. It worked! In the past - 5 teal for 5 and 5 wigeon for 5, several times; by starting at the back of the flock-3 down before they realise. This 'secret' was told to me by a very old fowler.
Good shots taken and better shots not taken. Required viewing.
Another great film.

I’m no expert, but can you not add commentary when you edit ?
@@dougieanderson2123 yes , and I did but still loud and didn’t want it to mute it completely as you would lose the atmosphere!
Out of interest as you clearly do alot of wildfowling, why no dog? Got to be the most important tool to anyone who goes fowling.
I don't agree that its the most important tool. Your fieldcraft is your most important tool. I trust my fieldcraft, persistence and kayak far more than half the people with 'gun dogs' around here. Simply having a sundog is not the answer by itself. That said I wanted to breed a retriever out of my GWP in 2024. For various reasons it didn't happen. Even then, if I had the pup wouldn't be ready for this season. I likely won't have a dog ready until 2026. Will it stop me going wildfowling? not a chance in hell. A well trained (note the well trained bit) is an asset but not essential. Its not essential because I am living proof that its not essential. Id trust my fieldcraft, persistence and kayak against most of the ill trained or non trained mutts that I see on shoot days. I also have retrieved ducks this season from the kayak that no Labrador would have safely retrieved. Does that mean I flip the coin and insist that every old codger with a Labrador should have a kayak? No. Its more nuanced than just having a dog to tick a box. Gods honest truth I have only lost two ducks this year out of quite a number now. But.. I hope to either get a pup or breed a pup in 2025.
@CumbrianWildfowler me personally I wouldn't go shooting without a dog. That my opinion and nothing against what your doing or having a pop, I enjoy the vid and look forward to them popping up every week. But you mention your kayak yes it's handy on tide flights. It looks like you shoot a flooding part of river with not much current.but what use is a kayak on a evening flight on a splash ? Let's be honest there's not much feild craft needed for that either a fed splash or some fresh flood water. As for the gwp great dogs even better crossed out to a lab they make superb working dogs. Please don't think it's me having a dig at you as it was just a general question keep the vids coming and doing what your doing 👍 from the background in some of the vids I don't think your to far from me.
@@procarper1fair enough, and I won’t argue that a dog is an asset and I will have one as soon as I can but as you know it is not like ordering up a takeaway m. It. Takes time to get one established and not having one, particularly on splashes that you mention, should not stop someone going wildfowling as those splashes can be waded unlike the estuaries. I’m living proof that you can get by without one. Just having a dog isn’t the answer by itself. There’s plenty of useless ones out there. Just go to any local pheasant shoot and half the dogs there are worse than useless. I’m better than half of them!
@CumbrianWildfowler agree a fowling dog is far different to a picking up dog on a phesant shoot.
Did you roll crimp or fold crimp?

Where do you source your reloading components, powder, wads etc.
Clay and Game. They’re near Hull
Try Folkstone Engineering as well 👍
@ yep, I use them
Going to have to get a muffler for your mike
You are getting there. Nice goose. Instead of trying to lead birds at night, sit facing where you think that they will arrive with your safety off and the fiinger on the bottom of the guard. When a bird flies past lift the gun in front of the bird and fire as the butt hits the shoulder. You have to learn how to be versatile. Also try a 'Starlite' taped to your barrel. as OU's are worse than any gun at night as the left eye sees a lot of black barrel. I lost a teal at night as it went away low at dusk. On making my way back in the dark I stepped on it-what's the chances?
Happy days, great content again….sport of Kings on your doorstep….well behind on the second goose 🤓
Not shot ducks/geese but No 8 shot ? Always thought it would be No3 or 4 . as 8 is a clay load or am i wrong ? (Im no expert) lol .
Fair question. I’m using Tungsten which is nearly twice as dense and heavy as lead. Those shots sizes you quote are typical for lead. For TSS because it is very dense and ballistically superior you can move up shot sizes to fill a denser pattern. No. 7 seems to be the popular size for geese though 8 and even 9 wallops them. It’s hard to fathom but it’s true!
That's a punchy load in the 28 . They're supposed to be easy on recoil
@@gerardcarlile5671 yeah it is, but still nicer than the 12g cannon. Im sold on the 28 from all fronts. Next task is some sub sonics
