One of the only films to ever make me feel truly uncomfortable and disgusted. I love all kinds of horror and thrillers. But this film hits you like a ton of bricks.

Bull is a kind of wraith or grim reaper reminding me of Anton Chigurh .An unstoppable force who is unleashed upon those who destroyed his humanity leaving only this relentless shell of mayhem and destruction. One hell of a must see movie

I usually find myself pretty sympatico with Kermode's takes on films, but he really missed the mark on this one. The plaint that "some people really, really hated it," seems like a particularly cowardly hedge to avoid giving this movie its due for fear of some sort of backlash from the sanctimonious types who get queasy at any satire that locates humor in highly-sensitive places, but it's those places that most need prodding by our gifted satirists. It's especially cowardly of Mark, not to mention a cheap shot, because this movie, now that it's been widely seen, has a 94% audience score on RT. That's higher than "Gone With The Wind," "To Kill A Mockingbird," "Citizen Kane," and just one point shy of fucking "Casablanca"! Given that resounding, nigh universal, acclaim, I'd say the fact that some people "really, really hated it," is actually a feather in its cap. It's hated by all the right people, presumably. This was a great movie. It somehow hits you in the gut and still makes you want to go out and dance for joy that you're still, however briefly, free and alive. Only great movies can do that. I'll have what Mel Brooks is having, thanks.

I honestly thought the tone remained consistent throughout the entirety of the movie, the last act just crancked everything up to 11 and made it 10x better I cannot wait to show others this movie because their reactions are gonna be priceless

I wasn't sure how I felt about The Witch until I saw the Northman and then I got it. I did find the switching between english and subtitles strange. Fully subtitled or english with no dodgy accents please. Subtitles is my preference. I did however love this movie. I watched it with my daughter and we were taking the micky out of it initially, because of the dodgy accents. However we kept watching and we kept watching and we were invested in it after it's first hour. It is a great piece of cinema and I would pay to watch it at the cinema A+

100% agree with Mark regarding the difference between a plot point being silly or stupid and this example sums it up perfectly. We get that its not real life but it has to work on its own terms and by rules we have to understand and running faster than the speed of light between two points very close to each other is just dumb.

This film was frustrating - there's a ton of clever techniques, moments and decisions, that turn the dials of tension, and some of it is SO good, genuinely uncomfortable and awful! Then it makes some stupid choices that undermine that tension. This film annoys me *because* it's so close to being genuinely brilliant and in a class of its own. Still VERY much worth a watch - plenty of times your skin will crawl

One of kermodes worst takes. The worst criticism is saying the orgy is too tame when Sydney Pollacks character tells Bill everything you saw was fake. For all we know nobody was even having sex. It’s masterful fine line between reality and dream sequence. The audience and bill will never truly know what they saw and it’s brilliant. A masterpiece of course

Don't agree Mark. Barry Lyndon is praised to bits. But if you were Irish you would probably find Ryan O' Neal's "oirish" accent unbearable, as I do. Barry Lyndon: talk about brilliant soundtracks.
