What freedoms of Bjorn's were taken away? That's where I'm confused. He was catapulted into stardom which usually equals money. So what freedom was taken from him?

@@AppleEnthusiastThinksDifferent I am not convinced Bjorn was abused in the manner this documentary is hinting at with it juxtaposing a line of young boys in audition next to the director licking his lips. I think fame at an early age is problematic. There's plenty of examples of that, but it's the story of Death in Venice; a teenage boy being pursued by an older man and all the controversy surrounding that and the book the movie is based on which is causing this uproar.
There are two camps, at least, of thought about Death in Venice. One, that it is a story about death of the spirit confronted by absolute beauty. That to see true beauty means being one will surely want to die after see the very apex of worldly experience since everything that follows will be diminutive by contrast and inferior. The other camp is those that think this is a dirty tale of perversion and that, I believe, is the narrative this documentary is exploiting for their own selfish ends.

I don’t think he was abused. He never says that. But the fact of his mothers death, coupled with the fact that his grandma forced him to become a celebrity. It’s something he didn’t want to do. He even says that. It ruined his life in a way, because it’s not what he wanted. It was a life he wasn’t living.

Yes, money for his exploiters. His grandma basically sold him and they even drugged him so that he could cope with his duties. What was not taken away from that boy?
