Remember that the Caro-Kann was developed to be an improved version of the French, the improvement being that the d7-d5 push is supported by the c-pawn instead of the e-pawn so that the light square bishop can be developed outside of the pawn chain. Your light square bishop is almost always intended to be traded off with White's light square bishop. Whenever you're locking in your bishop with ...e6, that should be a sign to you that you're on the wrong path. When you lock in your bishop in the Advance Variation, you're going against the spirit of the Caro-Kann and end up in a worse version of the French with a tempo down.
@@AlexSanchez-ff8nm He was strategically lost after move seven. There is everything wrong with how he played the opening and it's directly related to shutting in his bishop. Please only weigh-in when you know what you're talking about.
@@chesswithpatrick Thanks for the reply. I know you like to develop your bishops to pin your opponent's knights, but that's not always the correct action. In the Caro-Kann, Black's light square bishop is happy just to get outside the pawn chain. However, once outside the pawn chain, it still isn't a very useful piece, because it can't effectively be used to attack anything. White's light square bishop, on the other hand, can exert pressure against Black's kingside from d3. That's why your bishop belongs on f5, with the sole purpose of neutralizing White's bishop on the b1-h7 diagonal and eliminating it once it gets to d3. In the Caro-Kann, neutralizing White's good bishop with your bad one is more important than temporarily inconveniencing White by pinning his knight.
I know you don’t read these comments often.. but you want to avoid taking pawn on d4 because when he takes back he opens square c3 for knight from B1. So wait for kb1 to d2 move and then take on d4

Yeah I think I’ve been waiting for their Nc3 move but it didn’t come early enough for me to pin… thanks for the feedback
There is nothing wrong with Patrick's transposition to the French.

@@AreaElf Share your account name let's see if you really know what you're talking about. I'll go ahead and play with French.
very high quality games, the last two.
you're levelling up.
Thank you!!!
On move 6 play Bf5 instead of e6. You don’t want to block in your light squared bishop
When playing Caro-kann advanced variation, i think the best move is to release the light-squared bishop, before you block it in with the e pawn.
1:04 how does this even have 2 likes?
Ideally yes!!
You've not made blunders (that much) in a while. Great job!

If Emma doesn’t start playing chess on December 1st I’m gonna be very disappointed
Let's go 1500 loading 🎉
I also started journey to 2000 from watching you
Let’s do this!!😊
I think you need an e4 repertoire honestly so many more ways to play
I see that you are playing levy’s version of caro kann in the first match!
Lol computer gave you knight to H6 in the review, such a computer move. Knights on the rim is grim as the saying goes, you played great!
You should work on your tactics a lot. Otherwise, your playing style is decent.

Ah good call and then it blocks the queen as well
Very nice!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great game
How was your opponent resigning there that’s idiotic
GG
Thank you!!
