Sometimes it's ok to just have fun with things, there's nothing wrong with eating up the drama and finding joy. You have convinced me that I will give Onyx Storm a go at some point especially if the "I can't trust you" nonsense if finally done...for now. lolol

🐉 After video thoughts: "You matter more to me than the world" romance tropes probably come from her own personality 🤷 She probably thinks she matters more than the world and wants a partner to tell her that 😂 I kinda feel you with enjoying books that don't make sense. I'm in the minority for liking "You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty" by Akwaeke Emezi - their only romance. And the romance makes no sense and isn't really believable at all, but I had SUCH A GOOD TIME reading it. "Why did she make the choices she made?" She literally leaned on novelty to sell books - a thoughtless move. One of those novelties is a language that almost died because it was so oppressed. Also, "Celtic" is a diaspora. There are six Celtic nations. She was using Gàidhlig (Scots Gaelic) which is just one of many minority languages in and around Britain. I don't think it's a coincidence that her writing reminds you of Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling was problematic for this and so much more like you mention. It stands to reason that Rebecca Yarros is also thoughtless and could turn out to be hateful in the future. Rebecca Yarros has already shown her colours in regards to Israel. I'm maybe way too wary and sensitive, but I really wish people cared more.

I haven't started watching this yet, but my initial opinion is no. People shouldn't give her money. She's pro-Israel, and I don't see many people talking about that. The thing about her appropriating Gàidhlig is another negative and just makes me feel like she doesn't care about Gaels who were literally genocided and unhoused by the English and lowland Scots. She's always given off the energy of, "I don't care unless it hurts me directly." I'll be back with updated thoughts after the vid x

I did see a note that maybe there might be an Exordia 2. So maybe some day. I really enjoyed your one liners in this as well. I found The Sky on Fire more enjoyable but I do love a heist and I read it on vacation and it felt almost indulgent.

I haven't read any released in 2025 books yet and I don't plan to tackle many as I have put myself on a book buying ban this year but I have pre-ordered a book that my husband is buying for me that releases in Feb. You may like You Sexy Thing (The Disco Space Opera #1) by Cat Rambo. It gives Firefly vibes where a flight crew hops from planet to planet, raising money with their travelling cafe. Adventure ensues thereafter. It's a short read, though 295 pages.

I LOVED both The Angel of Indian Lake and We Used To Live Here when I read them last year. Both 5 star reads for me. The ones that stood out for me as published and read in 2024 besides those two were I Was a Teenage Slasher by Stephen Graham Jones, The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton (which I felt had a sci-fi mystery but not thriller bent) and A Short Walk Through a Wide World by Douglas Westerbeke. A Short Walk... is fantasy/magical realism with a historical angle but not as immersed as you're implying The Warm Hands of Ghosts is. It was actually really good for me personally I gave it 4.5 stars.

DAVEED DIGGS IS THE NARRATOR FOR THE DEEP? I need to listen to that, love Daveed. Also, Clipping - the experimental hip hop group he's a part of - is AWESOME, 100% recommend it if you haven't heard it. "Blood of the Fang" and "Nothing is Safe" are my favourite songs, but everything is interesting. He's so fucking good, oh my god. If Hamilton did nothing else, it AT LEAST introduced me to this insanely skillful and interesting artist. Also, I've read two books released in 2024, I think. My list of readings that overlap with yours is pretty easy: 1. We Used to Live Here Other than that, I also read Bury Your Gays, by Chuck Tingle, which I liked a lot better than We Used to Live Here. And I don't know if you'd like it necessarily, but I don't see why not either. It's fun, it's horror, it's queer, it's anti-capitalist (or at least anti-current-stage-capitalist). It's meta, which idk if it makes any difference to you, but I enjoyed a lot how it's done. And I think I'm interested in all the sci-fi and most of the horror you mentioned, which is great, always happy to add more things to the infinite TBR.

I don't read monster romance and was also UNPREPARED for it in the Woods All Black lol. I didn't think it was bad but I was a more than a bit surprised lol.

I didn't have any huge new hits come out of 2024 at all, and most of the 2024 releases I read were a bit of a letdown honestly. I did enjoy A Sorceress Comes to Call though - T Kingfisher's dark fairy tales are usually pretty solid for me. 2024 overall wasn't great so I'm looking forward to better luck in 2025.

Some of the books are on my TBR [ Lost Ark, Hunt Sweet Home, Tainted Cup, The Sky on Fire] and I don't want to be spoiled... so what's with the No-Time-Stamp Trope in videos stating 2025? Is the function malfunctioning? Thx.

I need to try Nettle and Bone again, I really loved A Sorceress Comes to Call because it had the balance of the naive POV with the more worldly humorous one and I think I'm missing that in Nettle and Bone. I keep picking it up and having a hard time getting into it, which is weird since Kingfisher is one of my favorite authors and her books are usually comfort reads for me.

The Woods All Black really went there... and I was along for the ride hahahah. I am so eager to read We Used to Live Here! As for a rec for you, I think you should try The Fall Is All There Is by C.M. Caplan. The sequel is coming out next month and it's even better than the first. Think disaster chaos queer vibes like in Chorus of Dragons, but make it a royal family drama/political war in a post-post-apocalyptic scifantasy world. SO GOOOOD

It being one day later doesn't kill anyone I'm very curious about Usurpation, your descriptions about it always sound interesting, I guess I'll have to add it to my eventual TBR list Huh, interesting about Exordia. I think I'd probably appreciate it, but it maybe becoming a series kinda makes it less exciting to me (I have way too many series to read at the moment, so I'm looking for standalones anywhere I can lmao). But I guess I might just take the author on their word and read it as a standalone and pray this is it This week, I finished We Used to Live Here, which was pretty good but the last 20% kinda took away a lot of the excitement I had gained in the 25% - 70% portion of the book. Anyway, I already told all about it on Discord. And then I read Bury Your Gays, by Chuck Tingle, which was GREAT, very fun, very cool and I just loved it, so now I gotta read Camp Damascus and I'll be waiting for the author's new release, Lucky Day. Now, I'm reading The Grace of Kings. I've read 4 chapters for now (which is about 10% of the book) and I'm very curious. Big difference in momentum from Bury Your Gays, but, I mean, after 2 years of Malazan I can't really complain about that sort of thing, and I'm already getting into the right speed of things with this book. I'd have read more but I was very tired this week, so it is what it is. It is VERY unlikely that I'll finish it next week, though, it'll probably take me a couple of weeks to read it. Which is fine, I don't really care about that. As long as I can at least read more than 1 book in a given month, I'm happy

Started Words of Radiance yesterday, trying to take it slowly rather than binge it, but keep getting sucked into that ‘just one more chapter’ mode of reading! Also reading Witches Abroad (book 3 in the Witches subseries of the Discworld books, and about to embark on a reread of Connie Willis’ To Say Nothing of the Dog.
