I feel like this year is definitely a "we will see" kind of year. I feel a little tired and a little bored (but not less stressed), so I think I need to find some new hobbies or events. Maybe go back to punching things. I relate to the snack thing so bad though. I am still searching for things. NYT suggested tossing your healthy snacks in like a salty seasoning mix, which i might try... especially for carrots.
Here's to fighting the inertia together!! I really like your gentle but exciting goals for 2025, hope you have a wonderful year. I am personally once again going to try to read less, because 300 books is just insanity and I really could use some more balance and time to spend on other hobbies in my life lol. All the love 🥰
I really like salt and vinegar almonds. They taste just like chips!! The only thing is they’re so calorically dense that I have to make sure I don’t eat too much at a time lol. And yep, the inertia is so hard to fight against! You have some great goals though, looking forward to another year of your videos 👍🏻
Best wishes on your goals this year, Angela! Chocolate chips would be good with some nuts, seeds, and dates. That might make for a yummy healthy snack! 👍
👍I'm in a constant battle for snacks, lol. My current go-to is a big jar of raw almonds that I can just grab a handful of when needed, but I also tend to keep string cheese and hard boiled eggs in the fridge, gluten-free crackers and trail mix in the pantry, and then bananas and clementines are the only fruits I trust myself to eat before going bad. I'm admittedly picky and don't love cooking, so I tend to rely on a lot of protein-rich snacks at meals, lol.
I like the going with the flow and your needs approach to 2025. Just taking it easy on yourself and trying to figure out what works to keep you feeling good is smart. For snacks, I really love boiled eggs, cashews, inner peas, hummus, clementines, and frozen cherries (just eaten frozen). I'm not against some chocolate chips with coffee either, though! ^_^
2025 is the year of reading books I own. I'm doing a very low buy year for books and even cutting back on my library reading. I want at least 75% of the books I read this year to be books from my shelves. I even have a whole game on my channel to help bribe myself to meet my goals throughout the year.
One of my favorite snacks is frozen blueberries and melon pieces. Likely less boring than carrots. But hey, no one said soup couldn't be a snack. We really like the blue corn chips from Target. When I want them flavored I just do it myself, add light oil and the flavor I want, and bake them in the over for like 15min. My own goals: Stay ontop of supplements intake. Get back into my PT exercises. I want to add a 10k one day a week, walking and light jog mix up. And, my goodness, I need new glasses. Its been like 10 years I think. Ha!
Fighting the inertia is a feat, and I often fail! But I did download a habit tracker for my yoga (can I do it for 365 days? We'll see) and added reading at least a chapter a day. I had days when I didn't pick up a book last year because I felt like I didn't have time to get immersed, so hopefully this will help that issue (and the inertia) a little. 😅
👍 I love the idea of the hobby/free time wheel to fight inertia - I also have that issue often! Going through my reading stats, I’m pretty happy with most of my reading but I want to prioritize more of my translated fiction in 2025. I have a ton that I’m excited to read…and ignore 😅
My reading goals are to read what I own preferably physical books. I'm on a book-buying ban (all forms) this year. The only ones I'm buying are 2 e-books that are preordered. I'm trying to do all of the prompts on a library reading challenge. I will check out books as necessary but I'm trying to read books I already own. My personal goal is to do less doom scrolling. My plan is to try and do something positive in reaction to my emotional reaction to doom scrolling. I like Clementines and dried apricots as a healthier snack but I'm a slave to dark chocolate not gonna lie. Can't stop, won't stop LOL.
Have you tried salting your veggies a few minutes before you snack? It brings out a lot of their natural taste and, I find at least, cuts down on the acidity.
Oh, you read less horror than I'd have expected. It felt like a bigger presence in the channel than it apparently was in the TBR, that's pretty interesting. I really need to get to Shadow of the Wind as well. I also have the first book here in my house and I just need to pick it up. Maybe this is the year, then! 100% understand what you mean about the mental health. I spent some 2 years, I think, without reading a single book because of that from 2021 to 2023 or something like that. It really sucks when your brain just doesn't shut the fuck up and you can't focus on what you're reading. Jujutsu Kaisen probably was the only thing I actually read consistently in that period, it's a simple shonen manga but the author really knows how to create hype, and oh boy did I need that at that time. Anyway, I'm glad you're doing better and are being able to find ways to keep reading even when mental health is tough. I'm not an audio guy, so when it sucks it sucks and I just don't read, lol. I really need to work on that Yeah, my reads are also not really diverse. Much less than yours, even, I think (I don't keep track of it though, so I'm just guessing). Reading a ton of Malazan (and Cosmere in 2025) really doesn't help me on that front, lol. And reading one book at a time, not doing audio and having read some 32 books the whole year means I read really few things, so these juggernauts take an insane amount of space. Skimming through my reads, I think I only read 2 non-white authors, which were RF Kuang (4 books) and Ken Liu (1 book). And only 3 books were by Brazilian authors, which I also should address (and probably will since a lot of my physical books are by Brazillian authors, so one goal helps the other). About doing more things with your free time, a friend of mine told me about the "Bored API" a couple of days ago. I haven't taken a look at it yet, but it feels like something that might help you? It works kinda like how you described the wheel, but I guess the plus side is that it has things you wouldn't necessarily think of (and on the flip side it might have stuff you just don't want to do or don't like doing, but then just spin again I guess, idk, I'm not sure if you can filter stuff). I don't know if I really have that many goals. I went through some stuff that I kinda want to do on the paragraphs above this one, and there's the "read more physical books" that we talked about in the specific video, and I think that's kinda it? And, well, I want to read at least up to (and including) The Way of Kings in the Cosmere, but that's honestly going to be pretty simple, I think. And I might try the prequel series by Ian Esslemont on the Malazan side of things, after I finish the Karkhanas "trilogy" and The God is Not Willing + maybe its sequel that might come out this year. Idk though. Whatever floats my boat at the moment is how I usually roll with these things
👍I have a few cookie-jars filled with nuts (unsalted, because they are also for baking) that have the same function as your bag of chocolate chips, it's very easy to grab a few to munch on
I was a postdoc and did research for 8 years and hated it. I love teaching, its one of the few jobs where minus the pay and lack of full time opportunities I thrive in prepping and doing the work involved.
Appreciate the rec, sometimes those contemporaries stress me out though, I only read Hazelwood’s cause they tend to work for me. Although Love Theoretically is what made me finally get back to therapy cause it had me crying cause of academia job stuff 😅

The shadow of the wind is great. I still need to continue that series…it definitely slipped through the cracks. Whoopsies.

love a good goals and reflections video! ❤

👍🏼 If you don't like the carrots with hummus, maybe try bell pepper slices...? That's what I prefer.

I think both are great ways to help atleast encourage you to meet your goals! Hope you also allow for flexibility for off days
I really liked shadow of the wind this past year!! I listened to the audio while i thrift shopped which helped me get SO immersed in it
I hope this year is better than ever for you!! 👍
Good to know the audio is great and I hope you also have a fantastic year!!

Inertia is SO hard to fight, but I do find I am happier when I do fight back a little

Best of luck with reading what you own

Per usual love reading the comment and sorry my response is not as long.
I am going to look into the bored api thing you mentioned!
@@LiteratureScienceAlliance no problem!
I hope it's useful or at least gives you some new fun ideas!

I really need to make it atleast one step harder 😂
I feel like TH-cam was not rewarding me either in 2024. Going on Analytics was pretty disheartening the majority of the time
i recently had chocolate covered dates and they might be a good snack for you since dates have fiber
Thanks for the recommendation!
Ooof, being an adjunct is tough… have you ever considered doing a post doc or going into research at a pharma or biotech?
I was a postdoc and did research for 8 years and hated it. I love teaching, its one of the few jobs where minus the pay and lack of full time opportunities I thrive in prepping and doing the work involved.
I want to go 3 days a week 4 weeks in a row
Adjunct oooof!
Yuppp but I love so much of the work and the students are amazing

Yep, fighting inertia. Me too. 👍
We are all in this together
If you’re looking for another professor romance you should read office hours by Katrina Jackson

Carrots are SO boring I 100% agree 😂👍🏻
Like not bad tasting but it takes all the fun out of snacking
👍👍👍

really sorry about your cat! I hope some good books will give you some peace of mind
