Welcome to our channel!
We're Mariana & Bahi. We met each other in Canada after we had immigrated there from our countries of birth to build a new life for ourselves. After living for almost 2 decades in Canada & traveling sporadically to places such as Cuba, Panama, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Uruguay, etc. we decided to become full time travellers. The main reason for that decision is to gain an appreciation for life, to gather world experiences and to explore different places. You can take a vacation in a country for a few days, but until you stay there for at least a couple of months, you won’t have a good idea about how daily life is in that country. We like to take our time when we travel so that we can fully expose ourselves to the culture, food, and language of each country we visit. We speak 4-5 languages between the both of us & we plan to learn 1-2 more languages in the near future. So, join us in our journey around the world; we are just getting started ☺

RIO DE JANEIRO KEEPS ON SURPRISING US!
In this video, we start by visiting the mazing, gigantic Botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro (Jardim Botânico). This garden is huge and has so many different sections to visit. There is one particular section that we show which is the corridors where you have huge palm trees and is called royal palms. There is also a beautiful fountain called Chafariz das Musas next to which there is a giant tree with a very large trunk. As we continued our stroll through the garden, we also passed by a special collection which is a small Japanese garden. The botanical garden is very large and you can easily spend a full day there, but we had to leave to visit another neighbourhood of Rio called Urca. The Urca neighbourhood is the smallest neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro and it is where the sugar loaf and morro da Urca are located. The neighbourhood is a very relaxing and charming place to take a walk along the water and watch the sunset. We also visiting a floating restaurant which is located in Urca and the views from this restaurant were fantastic. From the restaurant, you can see the sugar loaf, the statue of the christ, Niterói, and the runway of Rio's airport. We hope you enjoy the video :)

Great that you took time to explore some of the downtown, but a pity you guys didn't explore Santa Teresa. Its a very vibrant and cultural district, with tons of typical restaurants, bars, shops and art galleries - as well as nice parks with beautiful views over Guanabara Bay. I suggest gettin the train jus to Largo dos Guimaraes - explore - and then go back via Largo do Curvelo's station. And speaking of libraries - right next to Teatro Municipal is Biblioteca Nacional - the 8th biggrest in the world and also stunning. And its not so unsafe to use a drone if you are in tourit area with people passing by... you should avoid empty streets. Oh, and the favela you pointed is the first slum in Brazil - Morro da Providencia. But glad you could have an idea of some of what the Centro has to offer.

Very nice, but actually this bay is called Enseada de Botafogo, a small cove inside the huge Guanabara (2nd biggest bay in Brazil). Guanabara's entrance is actually right behind the Sugar Loaf, where the Portuguese named the city thinking it was a river mouth. Glad u enjoyed.

Where do you guys live ? CURITIBA ? ONE of my favorite cities, a city that was totally planned and built, is amazing. Your husband has an accent, where is he from ? You being a blonde I am guessing you are from the south - RS, SC, Parana ? Blumenau ? Joinville ? If so, come visit us there any time ! About a 5 hour drive We will show you all of the island I lived in Recife and Joao Pessoa most of the time but returned to the south in 2018 for the north island of Florianopolis At this time planning to buy another place to live in Joao Pessoa, for the warm weather and lower cost of living In 1 year I have saved enough from my retirement to buy this 2nd apartment ! Life here costs me about $700 usd per month, but I own an apartment and have a car too You can refuse to pay the ''entertainment'' music fee on your bill in a restaurant, they will remove it, is optional My RNE process was very easy and the PF were very helpful Getting a driver's license here is a pain in the ass, took me over a week. I can get one in Florida in 30 minutes for $20 ! If you are a Brasilian with NO driver's license, it can take you 8 months to get your license ! I bank at Bradesco, their ATM's are amazing, very high tech with their hand recognition, nothing like that in the US. The wifi debit card is so convenient, you just touch it on the machine and it goes through Better to NEVER bank at the BR govt banks, they are a nightmare. The BR govt banks can't take your foreign cards PRIVATE banks like Bradesco, Itau and Santander are the ONLY way you can use your foreign debit and credit cards. I am over 65 and can use the bus FREE Yes there is a PRIORITY line at most places, banks, restaurants, grocery stores People from the US and Canada eat pizza by picking it up and putting it in their mouth. Brasilians leave it on their plate and cut it with a knife and eat it with a fork. BRASIL is SO MUCH NICER than the US or CANADA !! QUALITY OF LIFE is so much higher here ! WHO needs that garbage life in the US or Canada ? The food is killing off the population with toxic processed garbage food from major food producers. Of course like everywhere in the world there are the normal 10% of people who are complete assholes ! Brasil is NO exception You can live in the south and freeze or you can live in the north and sweat !

My Mom was from HALL Quebec, gave me a CAD citizenship too even tho I never lived in Canada Came to Floripa in 2020 and stayed 8 months in Canasvieiras then went back to Recife to save up to buy something here. Bought a 2br apto for r$140,000, today it's worth at least r$220,000, not bad appreciation ! Still going up, this place is BOOMING. ONLY thing I don't like is the cold weather Can buy a nice 2br apto in JP for r$120,000 today Boating in the north is fantastic, plan to buy a sailboat after we buy up there. Can recreate the life I had in Florida there easily.

Nice factual video, where do you guys live ? Your wife looks like she is from the south where I live- Santa Catarina ? RS ? Parana ? YES the healthcare is excellent here. I have lived here since 2001 off and on, from Florida and also a Canadian Recently had a Qtip stuck in my right ear one evening, went to SUS emergency and they removed it within an hour We also have private insurance called AMOR SAUDE, it costs about $5usd per month and $6 usd for the DR each time. My DR here in SC is the best DR I have even been to, he is wonderful AMOR SAUDE is all over Brasil from SC to the north PE, PB - check them out Have lived in the north most of my time - Recife, Joao Pessoa where my wife is from but now live in Floroanopolis Ready to buy a 2nd place in JP soon for the warm weather and nice and safe beaches Am Canadian but never lived in Canada, my mother came from Montreal so I have US and CAD citizenship

It is a world apart form the failing Canadian health care system! We have visited JP also and do have a video in that city, but we were there only for 1 night and then the next day we had to leave so unfortunately we didn't get to spend that much time there. I mean, Florianópolis is definitely richer, safer and more beautiful than Rio. There are no slums there, everywhere you go is very nice, safe and urbanized and the beauty of nature is just the same of Rio.

I don't know if you had the opportunity to stop at "Alemão" at the entrance to the city to try the cheese sausage sandwiches, the meat croquettes and the buttery biscuits. Buying knitwear on Rua Tereza is also a great option, due to the quality of the clothes and prices. Another good attraction is the visit to the "Bohemia" beer factory, the oldest in Brazil. The house in which Stefan Zweig lived is now a small museum. Finally, in the municipality of Petropolis there is the Itaipava district with many charming shops, restaurants, shopping malls, hotels and inns.
Yes absolutely we stopped at Casa do Alemão and their sandwiches are out of this world: misto quente, pão de queijo, etc. Unfortunately didn’t have time to go visit the other locations that you had mentioned; maybe next time 😉
You guys are doing a wonderful job with Rio. Many interesting places to see. Always seems to be something different to see no matter how many times you go.
