The watch cuff is in use since it is on my Apple Watch 😊 Sadly the bags have been sitting in my closet 💀 Since I moved back to New Zealand from Singapore my life style has changed 180 degrees 😅 Walking in sideway rain storms aren’t the type of days made for carrying a Birkin or a Kelly even when they are made of barenia! 🤣 But. You are absolutely correct, of course ❤️‍🔥

Barenia is a tough one to live through before the patina. The “issue” I think is how these bags have become a luxury item that costs too much for it to look “shabby” and not “elevated”. You look chic on a horse with well patina barenia but stepping out of a Bentley you might look like you woke up without brushing your teeth. I dunno. My own personal aesthetic has never been “bling”. So they suit me fine. As for box leather, I am too scared to carry one because it is the opposite of barenia. The more you wear the box the worse it looks. Barenia and VN are the opposite. The more you wear them to better they look. “Better” I guess isn’t “like new” in this specific conversation. I have a Kelly sellier 32 blistered like box. But I would never buy box. So I am not sure what I have in my hands at the moment. As to why vintage box leather bags aren’t blistering I guess when you carry a Hermes bag way back in the day, or even these days, you wouldn’t often get caught in the rain now would you? 😌 Cars will pick you up and drop you off from one sheltered place to another, no? Some things are really products of their times.

There are too many of my bags stored in a few different places for me to show them all at the moment 😅 I’ve been buying designer (“luxury”) handbags since the late 1990s. But mainly started seriously collecting around early 2000s. Prada was amazing at the time. Miu Miu and Fendi too. Really playful and amazing designs. Tom Ford was on fire at Gucci and YSL. Most importantly LVMH was only a few years old and they haven’t ruined the market yet. Maybe one day I can go through all of them one by one ☺️ Are you in HK? Don’t have an after sales service team and craftsperson there? I need some of my hardwares replaced and I have no Hermes near me. Australia is the closest to me but they don’t have after sales service teams in any of the cities their stores are present I don’t think. As for pebbled barenia being more sentient to oil, I think you are right. If you see in this video, there is a permanent mark at the bottom of my Kelly 28 that I suspect is oil. If it had been water it would have disappeared. Since pebbled barenia has more crevices it would be more prone to anything getting caught there and staying on the leather. I don’t know about alcohol stains. But my first reaction would have been to leave it. As I have alluded before, for me staining is part of the long process of the “maturing” of the leather, and the changes in its visual qualities which is part of the fun of the leather for me. Sadly I think the unbelievable prices the market is asking for these bags now would have prevented anyone from having fun with any of it. Very sad. I am curious how H “fixed” yours though? Could you share?

@@OrangeIsTheNewBag yes I am currently in Hong Kong and the after sales is fantastic but usually takes a few months if it’s a local fix up. I believe they may have put a light paint over it to cover the discolouration. It looks okay and you cannot tell unless you look closely. For more heavy duty fix ups I believe they need to send to France . So far the experience is very good

Let’s hope smaller brands won’t keep trying to compete with LVMH in a race they can never win, and take a decisive position in the market where they can provide customers like us with alternatives to LVMH’s brands and prices.

Well. To be fair, if you look at the Origami Tote, it lacks a certain kind of polish or sophistication. I don’t know how to say it without sounding like I don’t really mean to with my sentence. Simply that pushed for a much bigger arc, Stuart Vevers managed to touch a design touch point. Which as amazing as it is, felt to me a bit unpolished. The way I see it, that’s when Jonathan Anderson came in. Looking at his own design label, his designs under his own banner also lack a sense of elegance and delicacy which makes his Loewe pieces sensational. Perhaps it is all about synergy. Alone they are interesting. But with a team of people under a big business with huge cashflow, certain other things can happen in ways they can’t independently.

Thank you! Based on the same info I estimated this to be from 2018. Smooth calf with blind stamp, metal feet, D ring, and visible seams. Do you know anything about the contrasting stitching. I saw conversations about bags with contrasting stitching from a few years ago but it seems to have become less common in later years?

@@OrangeIsTheNewBag Hmm that’s a bit harder (JA is constantly switches details) so don’t quote me on this BUT…I’ve yet to see a pre-2018 with contrasting stitching (especially those w/ white anagram). Even the LE exotics, engraved calfskin, mixed-color, & Ibiza collections appear to have all used monochrome thread. If u look at the 2018 seasons there were some releases that used monochrome on the bag & contrasting stitches on handle + strap. The blind stamp standard colors appear to have been released in full contrast as well (so ur likely correct about ur new bags age). Late 2018 - 2021 has heavy variation! There’s full monochrome (including hardware), others with contrast, & everything in between (depending on release & size). As of the poor decision in 2023 we’re left with limited colors, sizes, & a crappy strap. The stitching is mostly ‘color matched’ but its not good enough to be called monochrome anymore.

@@Snail_Nailz Sad isn’t it. Based on all the info I can gather and now some of yours, I am pretty certain we agreed that this is more likely than not from 2018. Especially given the visible seams. When you say monochrome and how it can’t be called that anymore, what do you mean if you don’t mind me asking. Have you noticed they are also now moving people on to cheaper non leather straps with their brands plastered all over them making us walking advertisers for them while we pay them money? Same with the discreet blind stamped anagram on the Flamnco bags, now a very visible gold stamped L O E W E…?

@@OrangeIsTheNewBag 1000%! I panic-bought after SA confirmed they were basically being discontinued. (Why get rid of a bag that made u a fashion darling?!) *The decision to replace it with Edge was SUCH a poor choice & abandons everything the house of Loewe is built around!* Its not only WAY simpler (ie cheaper) to construct but it offers none of the beauty found within the puzzle bags complexity. Then..they have the audacity to make customers buy an additional donut strap or be forced into wearing that monogrammed guitar monstrosity as walking advertisement. I’m a JA-stan but the massive price hikes & poor decisions have really put me off the brand to the point I mainly buy pre-loved.

@@OrangeIsTheNewBag However, I did try on the new Flameco PURSE in black & OMG is it heavily…buttery soft, sooo to carry (kept forgetting it was on my shoulder), has multiple strap options builtin, & the gold donut chain w/ interwoven leather adds just enough pop to keep things interesting. Couldn’t bring myself to buy (cuz I’m still mad at them) but it did go on my wishlist for the Mr 😂

Hello. There is LVMH own website that still has the medium available. The online store is called 24S. At the time of my writing this they have a tan and a black medium. There was puzzle medium in a different colour when I checked last month. So it is unclear if they are still making them, and if so why not have it available online, or if 24S is only selling old stocks. But I feel this is your best bet. The medium is 29 cm wide. The small is smaller than that. The satin calf is a newer leather that they priced higher and from what I gather, stiffer than the "classic" calf. I don't like Loewe's latest non leather straps. But it is a matter of personal taste. With the already high price of the satin calf, I resent the idea that Loewe is making us pay MORE for a leather strap. (I think there is one where one bag has two straps, one leather, one not leather, but I can't be sure if I am imagining that). The large is 35 cm, and feels significantly bigger to me compared to the medium. The best way to estimate this for yourself is to check out their exact measurements on Loewe's site. I am not sure why yours wont have a D ring at the base if you bought the same large grey puzzle bag as mine? That D ring is useless anyway. If you wanna carry it on your back, simple push the bag towards your back as you carry it messenger style. That works better for me. Good luck with 24S!

Do you use large as a daily carry or only for travel? I’m still waiting for my large puzzle asphalt to arrive, it’s coming from Madrid and it is the classic. It must be a newer model since it doesn’t have the D ring, but I found old stock w the D ring but I didn’t want to chance it bc I wanted to order direct from Loewe, plus keep my purchase history in case they get weird like Hermes or Chanel in the future. How are you liking the color? I love the sage even more but I felt the dove grey would be more universal and actually pops more against outfits. On a diff note, would you ever consider The Row Margaux or is the large puzzle the bag to end all bags 😂

@@bettybbags I carry it as a daily carry ☺️ Where I live has literal 4 seasons in one day and since I never learned how to drive I walk everywhere. So I need my jacket and water bottle in there. For a bit, I did check out The Row and love their styles. BUT. For those pieces? NO. As for their bags, they are nice. But for those prices, I want exceptional. And they aren’t 😁 I am never done with bags 😂

😅 Personally, I think people put up with it because it is a Hermes and it reminds a lot of people of the Kelly bag. That isn’t to say this is a bad bag at all.

Yes. It can work better as a backpack which this is convertible to. But once again, it needs to be one that you don’t get in and out of too often or while on the go. Personally I only carry backpacks that are waterproof, light, large, and easily get in and out of while I walk without stopping. So this doesn’t work for me that way either. BUT it can work for so many others!

This bag seems to work for many others. For example as a computer and file bag. This way they carry from home to work and only unpack at work. But this is too small for that. And I simply don’t carry bags that way.

I carried it on my shoulder…. Do you mean it is easier when the leather flap is used to close the bag without strapping? I tried that, but then the flap staying closed is heavily depended on one tiny point on the leather “hole” opening on the flap resulting in that part of the leather to chip. Could you explain a bit more how the hole on the strap can lock the bag? Or have I misunderstood that completely?

@@OrangeIsTheNewBag I meant it's easier but a hassle to open and close. I've seen people leaving it open while using.the salespeople told me to open and close while it's on my shoulder. The leather flap will always be chipped. It was how it designed.mine has it too. The lock prevents the strap from releasing and open the flap.

Thank you! It is a classic. Modelling the bag for proportion? I am camera shy in my older age 😁 But here are some observations: For my body proportion my current strap setting which is second to shortest puts the bag on my hip when carried on the shoulder, and slightly above it when carried cross body messenger style. The shortest setting will place the bag above my hip and for this size of a bag plus my big hips 😅 it looks awkward. Also this shortest setting is too short for a cross body carrying to be comfortable for me. Again, the large size of the bag plays a part here. Having said all the above, these things might work differently on someone with differently shaped bodies and / or different heights! 😊
