Charm: UNICEF SUPPORT YOUNG VOICES (2020)
BTS Significance: UNICEF LOVE MYSELF (2017-2021; BTS at the UN General Assembly 2018, 2021).
This is a charm Pandora created with UNICEF called Our Blue Planet. Produced in October 2020 with item number is 798774C01 it is part of the Support Young Voices campaign (2020), which run in conjunction with their Love Myself campaign with BTS (2017) which ran until 2021.
This Pandora x UNICEF charm reminds me of my first time discovering BTS and their music during the pandemic at the end of 2020.
The Love Yourself era was one which directly preceded the Map of The Soul era (2019) which was my first introduction to their extensive discography.
Soon after that I bought my first physical album in decades. BE (2020).

The charm measures 7/8" in length by 1/4" in width. The bead charm weighs 3.5 grams and is signed ALE 925.

The treatment BTS received as young people in the music industry in South Korea was extremely harsh for the perspective of someone who lives outside of that culture such as myself. The Korean culture is a relatively monolithic East Asian culture with very little diversity and low tolerance for those who do not colour within the lines, and those considered low in established hierarchies.
Their stories opened my eyes to the works that are still needed to be done on behalf of those on this blue planet who do not have their own voices.
Their resilience as young people, their attitude, and their strive to be accepted for who they are, to remain true to themselves, and to love themselves, regardless of the prejudices pushed against them from all sides by societies, communities, companies, corporations, establishments, governments, industries, media, have been truly inspiring (even) for an (older) person like me.
