Hi Mike, been watching your channel for a while now, but just came across this video as I was eating breakfast. It’s great to see someone learning and enjoying the art of driving a manual enthusiast machine, as they slowly slip away from our collective consciousness. 😢 I’ve been driving manuals for about as long as you’ve been alive, but the points you make are spot on. Driving a manual simply takes a bit more patience - or passion, really - to be willing to shift with the good and bad. I was a Mustang guy through and through (still am, really) and I drove my ‘91 Foxbody Mustang GT (it had a 347 stroker in it at that point) from Rochester, NY to Detroit/Dearborn, MI for the Ford Centennial Celebration. While overall it was an amazing experience (I had some connections and got to see some really cool stuff that the SVT had/was working on at the time), driving through Detroit rush hour in a manual was one of my least enjoyable experiences. 😂 I used to drag race (at the track only) my Foxbodies. Back then, a good driver could outperform any typical “slush box” auto. But now, even at a spry 52 years young (depending on the day 😅), most autos out there would put even the most dedicated manual drivers to shame. The DSG in the GTI is a fantastic transmission. I test drove a Mk8 2024 Autobahn. If VW didn’t do the whole capacitive thing and no lights under the sliders below the infotainment screen, I’d probably own one right now. That said, I think I made the right decision. Two days ago I took delivery of a car I’ve been drooling over since the late 1980s, even before it was available on American soil. I purchased a 2024 WRX TR in World Rally Blue Pearl. I was in HS the first time I ever saw pictures or video of Tommi M. piloting the Impreza WRX in WRC races, and I was hooked. Sadly, no STI so far this generation. Grumblings say that the next one may be hybrid (I’m ok with that) or all-electric (I’m not ok with that yet - USA doesn’t have the infrastructure in place for coast to coast charging capacity). While the TS is intriguing, I don’t want electronically controlled dampers. I’m more of an old school purist that way, plus if one goes wrong, be prepared to donate a kidney or something to get it fixed. 😂 As far as drive modes go, manual drivers have infinite drive modes in their shift knob and gas pedal. And it’s free. 😂 I know you like to do long runs in your WRX, you recently said in your TR video that you would’ve loved to have it in Western, NY along your fall foliage run. If ever you feel like you might be heading out this way, let me know. I’m retired, and would love to go along some twisty roads with you. Heck, that’s the reason I bought the WRX. Brembo brakes will be more expensive to replace than the regular ones and it showers the wheels with lots of brake dusts (a lot). 19 inch tires for this are expensive specially if you want to switch to all season ones for all year use. Recaro seats look and feel nice indeed. But I will stay with the cheaper and lower priced trims. I know because I own an ignition red tr. It is a little bit stiffer than the regular trims which can be annoying if you daily it

Appreciate the honest review! Ended up getting hawk hps 5.0 brake pads on my premium along with SS brake lines, fluid, and slotted rotors. Probably the more cost efficient way to solve the underperforming brakes on the non TR trim.

I almost 50 and I just got a VB. I still own the 06 GD I purchased in my 30s. The car drives exceptionally well. They're great cars.

Looks like the previous owner of the VA was chewing on that steering wheel. I own a VB and the half inch taller makes no difference on handling. My car sticks to the road like glue.

I have a 23 Premium as well. Since you drove both Premium and TR, do you think the Recaros on the TR seats lower than premium? How is your arm on the arm-rest?

Typical Subaru, they offer the good blue on some cars and not others. So the Outback is a no for me.

Bought 24 base WRX for about 30,000. Buy the manual , get the ignition key . Turn the car over , put your belt on , put your favorite music on . Tool down the road at 3,000 to 4,000 RPM. Most fun I’ve had in my 73 plus years. Enjoy the Torque and the AWD. Nobody else has AWD in this price range. The. 2.4 Liter Boxster is amazing! Be thankful life is allowing you to afford a nice machine. Have fun. Drive safely. I’m lovin the WRX.

it's wild to me that in 2025 subaru is charging an extra $1500 for a moonroof and on board nav (OP 13 vs. OP 15) do people actually use onboard nav when wireless carplay/android auto exists?

I don't know why people complain about cladding. A lot of cars have that such CR-V, Rev4... just accept it. If you like manual, just embrace what Subaru gives, keep complaining is just going to stop Subaru from producing it.

It's time to replace my 11 years old car with 200,000 miles. Im looking at 2025 subaru outback onyx edition, lets see what specials do they have. Mainly looking for outback is because of the back space, if needed i can fold the back seat all the way down.

I haven't driven an automatic WRX but I've driven an automatic Subaru before. I drove my stepsister's Subaru Crosstrek and my uncle's Subaru Impreza which are both automatic. I personally prefer the standard transmission (I have the 2023 WRX with the 6 speed standard transmission) and I personally would not buy an automatic WRX but the automatic's in Subaru vehicles are pretty good. They drive awesome. If the automatic is anything like the Impreza or Crosstrek in the WRX, they drive awesome. That being said, I am happy that my WRX is standard.

I am considering buying a 2024 WRX, just sold my m2 and want a awd MT sedan. I almost leaned to tr trim, however, for some weird hobby I prefer a sunroof with recaro seat. So I went for limited trim. In m2, I always left the visor open so the car doesn't feel small anymore, the light source makes the car more comfortable that it is already be. For hardcore track people, tr might be a go to, but how many days are people going to spend on the track, don't need brembo daily. Just my thoughts.

I’ve driven a few VAs as I work in a Subaru dealership. Just bought a 23 VB and I love it. I’ve only driven the VA a little bit here and there but the VB is my favorite. Prob a little biased but just my two cents.

How is the nav system? I had a 21 Outback and it had the most terrible nav system ever. It was good for knowing where you were, but setting a destination, finding waypoints, voice recognition, and basically everything else you do with a nav system was absolutely terrible, like it was built in the 80's. It couldn't get me to the nearest McDonald's without pulling over and wrestling with it for 10 minutes.

I love my 21 WRX conservitly protuned by M45/Snail Performance Auburn, CA. Grimmspeed stealth box intake, EBCS, V2 jpipe, invidia r400 cat back. 91oct 292whp 326wtq Grimmspeed V2 turbo inlet & V2 bpv arrive on Wednesday. Grimmspeed charge pipe and TMIC next and then back to M45/Snail Performance to be retuned and that's it for the stock motor

I'm 61 and I love my 2016 VA WRX! Wouldn't consider having a VB, expecially after watching this. But it's also the first used car I've bought in 25 years, part of the appeal is that I don't worry about it. I am also lucky enough to also have a 2019 F150 which is my long distance cruiser.

My 2018 civic si has heated seats.
