Hi there, great video and way more informative than the info I got from my surgeon last week. I just had extosis in my right ear removed 5 days ago and had a “spongostan special” placed in my ear to be removed after 2 weeks. No advice to use ear drops or antibiotics so I had some at home which I took as a precaution. I had bleeding post op for 24hrs and a lot of pain for 3 days. My ear is now blocked and all full of scab with tinnitus. Should I push for getting it cleared out asap as I’m worried it might heal closed or something? Or will it be ok to leave for another week? My surgeons secretary emailed me that my review would be for 6 weeks despite noting a follow up appointment was in my notes for 2 weeks. Not great aftercare here in uk (Private hospital too!) I’m a dentist and I normally provide my pts with lots of information after a surgical procedure involving bone. Feeling somewhat worried.

I have used this numerous times and it only works about 10% of the time, I would say about 50% of the time it seems to make no difference, but around 40% of the time it actually makes congestion worse. My nose gets SO blocked, and I get SO desperate that I sometimes take the risk of making it worse for the possibility of some relief, but tonight luck was not on my side and it has made my congestion worse : (

Ma'am, I have recurrent CSOM with TM perforation for many years, I also have a sclerosed mastoid. I want to get surgery done but none of my doctors ever give me any satisfying answers regarding my doubts and they just dismiss me and keep asking me to have the surgery done from them immediately. I ask them about complications and what might happen after the surgery regarding hearing and side effects and they mock me and call me stupid. Ma'am I want to know what will be done during the surgery since I also have a sclerosed mastoid. Will I also need a mastoid surgery or some kind of intervention for that along with eardrum repair? I am scared because when I ask my doctor he never gives me an answer to this. He tells me they will repair the TM and then "we will see". Ma'am I don't know what this means. Will they do the mastoid surgery also along with TM? Is this a normal way of managing this kind of cases?

The ‘drill method’ is barbaric. The risk of noise induced tinnitus and hearing loss is unacceptably high. The chisel method, as I do it, is the only way to go. No skin incisions, both ears at the same time, dressings out the next day. And this technique is ‘not available’ in Australia. The mind boggles.

Hi Doc good evening, I just have my right submandibular gland massive mass operation 1month and half. The tumor that they removed just finished for biopsy and the histopathology is 31/35 cancer cells are active and boring needs to do radio therapy because I am in the high risk. Kindly please advice me what to eat and not to eat before they will do the radio therapy in order to minimised the growth of cancer cells?

I had an nasal endoscopy today as I have a large lump in my neck, I never had an anaesthetic spray though. I was gagging when they went down the throat, I even started to have a panic attack and cry. 😪

I couldn’t go through with it. The doctor tried it without the spray - he only put it in my nose and I knew I couldn’t go through with it. Then he tried it with the spray, but the spray did nothing at all. Again he only got as far as just inside my nose! Having an ultrasound instead.
