And that antenna switches like $1100 bucks. Cannot be set up as a lightning arrestor to disconnect certain antenna paths. So can you just switch over to on unused antenna port. I do have a lightning arrestors already up to 2 kW. It would be nice if DX Engineer could sell three 3 kW or 4 kW lighting arrestors.

I’m here in southern NM and we get some crazy winds in late winter / early spring. Today expecting 38mph gusts so I brought down my signature 12.4. It only takes 5 min with my carabiner and post set up so I figured why risk it if I can live to ham another day 😎 …I might try the 2 guys at the 2nd and 4th plates and test on a windy day at some point maybe then I’ll feel okay leaving it up in our 40-50mph gusts when the windy season comes.

hmm, on my debian laptop install, there is a /etc/ser2net.conf and no yaml file. Is the yaml file PI spesific? nevermind I have the olde 3.5-2 versin in / Packages / buster (oldoldstable) / Source / utils / ser2net

It’s a lot like learning to read. Takes time and mistakes🤷‍♂️

I ended up going with a TP-iii. It’s a nearly perfect portable paddle. I like removable cable as well as the recessed magnets for mounting. I’d say the only advantage the N0SA paddles have over the tp-iii is larger paddles. I’d say if you merge some of these traits then you’d have the perfect paddle. Although I don’t think the tiny paddles on the TP-iii bother me as much as I thought they might.

I tune on frequency, so I’m guilty of that. Not intentionality, just forget to check and once I key anyway she goes automatically… probably need to learn to use my gear better. It’s entertainment so I’m not bothered much by what other people do, it is a hobby after all…

The way I was taught to indicate the end of a transmission was to send .-.-. and it was written as AR with a line over it. I still hear it from time to time, but I also often hear just the letter K.

I had a slightly different use case where I want to telnet into my devices that are connected via console through my Pi (this is only a lab) so I had to change the acceptor to telnet otherwise I got strange things like double carriage returns and garbled output. I would use bare solid wire , and no solder. You need to cut the shrink wrap a little longer since it shrinks in length too.
