If you want to know more about Australasia's transport history - specifically trams and light rail (but may be in future trains, buses, ferries and roads.) - this is the channel for you.
It's not "The History Channel" - so the videos are not meant to be curated historical records, but a nostalgic look at the transport systems that were lost over time. The information in the videos are based on multiple sources from books, websites, blogs and articles, as well as personal knowledge. But we get things wrong sometimes.. So corrections from viewers are welcome and appreciated.

First Tram Ride on Parramatta's New Light Rail Line. Yay!
Parramatta's New Light Rail Has opened. This is video from the first tram on the line. How cool eh!
In December 2023, we got an early Christmas present when Parramatta Light Rail started trial running - we thought trams would run mid 2024 - but didn't happen. But literally one year later we received another Christmas Gift when it was announced with just two days notice that the line would start running on 20th December 2024.

Happy 5th Birthday. Sydney's CBD & SW Light Rail!
มุมมอง 3.7K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
14th December 2019 is a date that feels like a lifetime ago. The black summer bush fires were raging across Australia, the first cases of covid-19 were being reported and amongst all of that doom and gloom - there was one bright spot, because 5 years ago the Sydney CBD and Southeast Light Rail opened on the 14th of December 2019 To celebrate the fifth birthday of the lines we'll take a look at ...
BACK TO THE FUTURE Light Rail Lines for Sydney
มุมมอง 11K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Recently, BACKTRACKS published a video on ALTRAC’s proposal for Sydney’s sixth light rail line. Tucked away in that document was a map showing possible lines beyond the Parramatta Road to Green Square line. In this video, we explore these proposals and do a bit of speculation on where else light rail could expand. As the video is based on ALTRAC's proposal, it focuses on the Eastern side of the...
Will Sydney get a 6th Light Rail Line?
มุมมอง 33K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
There is a proposal to extend the Sydney Light Rail network even further, with a new line connecting Taverners Hill, Parramatta Road in the inner west to Green Square in the inner south via Central Railway Station. This video takes a look at the possible route of this new line. As we know, the Parramatta Light Rail Line Stage 1 is called L4.. and so we could easily assume that Stage 2 will be c...
The Watson's Bay Tram Line - Once The Busiest Of Them All
มุมมอง 7K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
The Watson's Bay Tram Line was a nearly independent line within the original Sydney Tramway Network. While just one line, it was bigger than Hobart's and about the same size as Newcastle's network in terms of number of trams that operated on it. By the way, videos on this channel are not meant to be 100% accurate historical records. Having said this, we try to ensure they are factually correct ...
New Zealand's Trams. Once Were Wonderful.
มุมมอง 5K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
Trams were everywhere in NZ 100 years ago, but then by the second half last century they weren’t really anywhere. In fact today they don't form a part of a official commuter public transport in any city. But in spite of that, NZ's tramway history is rich and varied, boasting a fleet that included horse-drawn, cable, electric, funicular, and even battery-operated trams over a century ago.

First Parramatta Tram In 30 Years
มุมมอง 28K11 หลายเดือนก่อน
We got an early Christmas present last year when video of the new Parramatta tram started trial running in the middle of the night. The first trams to run in Parramatta since the Steam Tram museum burnt down in 1993. The first of two lines runs 12 kilometres between Carlingford and Westmead, via the Parramatta CBD. Videos on this channel are not meant to be 100% accurate historical records. Hav...
Hobart's Trams. Hero To Zero.

Which was the first city in Australia to have a fully electric tram network up and running? One would probably guess Melbourne or perhaps Sydney. It was actually Hobart, the capital of the island state Tasmania, Australia. In this video let's look the tale of how Hobart at one time led public transport in Australia - with the first ever fully complete electric tramway - but today has lost its t...
Newcastle's Trams - A Castle Collapsed, But Rebuilt (sort of).
มุมมอง 4.2Kปีที่แล้ว
The Newcastle, Australia tram network was a tram system that operated from 1887 to 1950. Up until 1923 it was a steam network, when the first lines of the systems were converted to electric operations, and then 7 years later in 1930 it was exclusively electric. A referendum was held to keep or close the network - and the 'close the network' won by just 1 vote. And so the trams were gone. In 201...

Australia's Trams. Their Rise, Fall & (sort of) Return

Trams were massive once in Australia. Sure they have come back a bit, but lets look at the story of all the tram networks of Australia. Their rise during the first half of last century, their fall which came close to extinction by the 1960s and then their gradual return in the last 20 years. There are lots of 'facts' in this video - we have tried our best to ensure they are correct by using mul...
