Welcome to my wildlife adventures, follow me as I learn all about wildlife, as I get out with my camera to photograph the wild side of the UK
My plan is to get out at least once a week and create a video of my travels around the UK as I document my wildlife photography and adventures.
My name is Ashley Barnard and I am a full-time professional photographer based in Lancashire UK on the Fylde coast.
I have been a professional photographer for around 15 years, and have recently started with wildlife photography, here on my TH-cam channel you can follow me as I dive into this minefield of wild birds and animals learning their names, identifying them, and learning the calls of the wild.
So please feel free to like and subscribe and follow me on my journey into the world of wildlife photography.

A Barren Landscape Photographing Red Deer
Today, I headed out into the Wilds of the Peak District a bleak and barren landscape that is home to around 50 red deer.
I started in the dark, using my HIKMICRO thermal imaging scope to locate the deer early on, and then sat and waited for the sun to rise.
My expectations were for a beautiful sunrise, clear blue skies and a lovely warm autumn day out on the tops, but that did not transpire, it was cold, damp, muddy and boggy, But you know what, it was absolutely fantastic, what a brilliant day out on my hands and knees photographing the red deer.
Follow me through the entire video to get the full experience of photographing out in the wild, and having to cope with the weather, the undulating land your wildlife moving from one area to another, having to stalk your wildlife, get camouflaged up and blending with the landscape, all to get some amazing photos and video of this amazing creature here in its natural habitat on the tops of the Peak District.

What's Hiding in the Yorkshire Dales This Autumn?
มุมมอง 1.7K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
In this week's video, I am heading off to a new area of the Yorkshire Dales that I have not explored before. I'm looking forward to getting out, putting on my boots, and finding some wildlife on my walk. It's an early start arriving at 7:00 AM just before sunrise to a wonderful scene of moorland and farms, spreading as far as the eye can see. There are plenty of berries on the trees so we could...
The Rut - Photographing red deer
มุมมอง 4.1K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Well, it's that time of year again and the rutting season has begun across the United Kingdom the red deer stags are full of testosterone and fighting for the right to mate. Today I went to visit Tatton Park which has been a long established Deer Park here in the northwest of England, even though the males were showing aggression and bellowing across the park I wasn't lucky enough to see any ru...

Is this compatible with a Rebel T7?
No it is an RF mount NOT EF you would have to check to see if they do an EF lens mount.
Wish you would have tried different apertures, maybe some depth would have made a difference. Nice video, thanks for sharing.
Excellent content as always , the photographer you highlighted needs educating !
Big problem here on Cannock Chase (Fallow deer) with people encroaching into a conservation area where the deer rut, it used to be inconsiderent dog owners, now its 'photographers', the bucks (stags) seem to more or less hold their ground but the does run off and scatter. Great to see some truly wild deer not the usual deer park stuff, great video.
Always some twat to ruin your day... And absolutely no concern for the welfare of the deer... Great images Ashley
Great video
Thanks, James 👍
Hi ! Great video !!! beautiful photos !!!
Many thanks, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Just great again Ashley i loved to watch Johnny Kingdom stalking and he would have enjoyed your efforts 😊 look forward to Mull I loved it there.
Just googled Johnny Kingdom, I will watch a few of his videos they do look intriguing. thanks👍
👍😊
Wow, what an incredible experience and amazing images.
That other photographer wasn’t exactly the most stealthiest. Clearly doesn’t care about the welfare of the wildlife, just wanted something to post on social media so he can get the likes. Great, atmospheric video though.
great video and great shots its a nice when people don't think want they are doing
Brilliant video shame the 2 stags didn’t have a coming together some people always get to close and spoil it fo others 👍🏻👍🏻
For me your best content yet! 👌 g8 work as always.
Nice vid Ash. Thought the tripod was going over for a minute😂
haha, lol. I cannot afford another broken lens. The one I had with me on the day was a friend's lens that I borrowed, mine should arrive back today. 🤞
Excellent! Most enjoyable! Lovely camera work. Thank you.
Going next week and very excited. It's been a long time since I was there last. I even think they have changed field from where they originally fed them. Surely one of the prettiest birds of prey.
Mate, you'd have been better calling it off at 9.01 and gone for a coffee 😂
great video and great shots red kite
Cheers Adrian, many thanks for your comment and watching the video is much appreciated. 👍
I live in Sweden Red kites are also my favorite of the birds of prey. And I'm lucky there were many around here. Has a stretch of about 5 miles where 90% of the time you see many kinds of birds of prey when you drive that stretch. I understand what you mean, it is an experience to see these in the wild. There are also sea eagles and ospreys, however, these are difficult to get close enough to photograph them.
Hi and many thanks for your comment and for watching the video, it sounds like you have a wonderful little area near you with plenty of birds, it is always great to have a one-to-one experience with wildlife, however magnificent or small. Yeh eagles and osprey can be hard to get up close to although have you watched this video th-cam.com/video/uQcmJDys7SU/w-d-xo.html, I think Morten Hilmer is my favourite wildlife channel I have watched every video he has put up such a pleasure to watch and learn. 👍
Morten Hilmer he is also a good photographer that I follow and as you wrote there is a lot to learn from his videos. I have followed you for over 1 year and I like your videos precisely because you also show that you don't always see wild animals up close and sometimes you don't see any at all. It gives a truer picture of how nature works Than some always show good pictures a video with only wild animals up close. . But never shows how long the person concerned has been out and filmed a video of 10-15 min, maybe the person concerned has been out for several weeks and filmed
@@TheAllfi thanks for the reply and good to have a long-term follower and always good to have an insight on the reason why you actually subscribe to the Channel, I do try to make my TH-cam very down to earth and genuine not trying to mislead people on where to find wildlife and you know trying to make it like you can just go out and get some great pictures and come home and job done, it does take a lot of time and effort and scouting around the countryside and sometimes you're lucky sometimes you're not, but thanks for the comment and have a great rest of the weekend.
Always enjoyable Ashley the Red kite was fab. 😊
Great video! Thanks so much!
Great shots of the kite Ashley. Pity about the little owl but we can’t win ‘em all can we. Another great video.
Hi Ashley, another good video 👍 your photo of Mistle Thrush is actually a Redwing, prominent pale stripe above eye is obvious in pic 👍
With regard to fallow deer there are four colour variations, white (not albino), menil which is very light coloured but with visible spots, normal which is chestnut with spotting and melanistic which are almost black. Colour is a product of genetics and is not related to age, a bit like in Labradors where pups in the same litter can be black, yellow, fox red or chocolate. Fallow coats of some colours change in the winter, usually going darker, for example normal coloured animals will turn dark greyish brown in winter and show fewer spots.
A very nice video, some stunning shots. Just a couple of points, a “royal” stag is technically a mature stag with the bottom three tines on each side (called brow, bey and trey” plus another three points on top in the shape of a cup, making 12 points overall. This terminology comes from Scotland where fully mature wild stags rarely grew more than 12 points whereas park stags with better feeding and genetics usually achieve 12 points by middle age and usually go on to have many more points when fully mature. The other point that you rightly made is that in parks like Tatton, where the deer have no fear of people, you need to be aware of stags coming from any direction whereas in the wild you would have to be downwind of your target stag and another approaching from behind is very unlikely because they’d scent you and scarper.
Didn't realise you was so near to Brockholes. Its not my local but its pretty darn close, Kevin is a treat to photograph. Very tame which is surprising but yeah, last few times I've been there Ive seen the osprey going over, barn owl a few times, but never managed a decent shot of that at brockholes
Yeah the barn owl at Brockholes can be a tough one to photograph with it being so busy and popular with Walkers and cyclists it does tend to only come out after hours. But if it's been a very wet night you could be lucky if you get there early in the morning. 👍
@@WildlifePhotographerUK yeah last time I saw it was around 6am on the carpark area, near the playgrounds, I recently had some luck at Lunt meadows with the barn owl/s there
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. Very informative and wonderful footage and images. Thank you.
Hi Denis many thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed this one it was a great trip. 👍
Suberb video and the last shot is awesome ! Ronny //
HI Ronny, thanks for the comment, yeh one of the best shots of the day, it's amazing how we stay in when it rains, but it can often be one of the best days out. 👍
No way I was there on Tuesday it was great to see the big stags so fired up. They were chasing bike riders. Hope you checked yourself when you left I found a tick on my leg Wednesday afternoon.
Hope you managed to get some great shots, yeh the stags are making themselves heard at the moment that's for sure, and thanks for the tip, no no ticks found, I tend to tuck myself in well around the waist and wear longer socks. 😜
Nice shots with the rain streaking down!
Fabulous ❤
The Fallow deer in my local patch are just at the very start of the rut which is two weeks later than the previous three years. Those Red deer are well impressive and I wouldn't like to Be on the end of those antlers! Another great video and shots.
Hi Andy many thanks for the comment, glad you enjoyed it, yeh I think the actual rutting is a little later this year, not by much but they seem to be hanging back a few weeks to previous years, especially here at Tatton
Agreed, the red rut is late this year, I suspect it has not been cold enough. I was in Tatton yesterday and there were plenty of big stags not fully engaged yet. No sign of the fallow rut which also seems late although I noticed a couple of big bucks that by themselves possibly taking up pre-rut positions. A couple more cold nights could kick it off but there were not a lot of fallow on view yesterday. The main doe herd wasn’t on view, those seen were mostly immature bucks.
loved to see what is happening around 9:04, (honestly, not so much arond 8:04)
Those stags are magnificent, superb video.
Great to see the stags. Just a pointer the red deer females are called hinds not does 👍
Bloody hell, yes I know that, I don't know why I've called the doe I know their hinds, just forgot, it's been a year lol 🫣as I mentioned to Tom :)
Great video. Love the images in the rain!
thanks Sean glad you enjoyed it 👍
Nicevid ash. Im there tomorrow. Dunham massey first for sunrise and off to tatton about 10😊
cool let me know what it's like at Dunham massey I might head there next week. :)
What camera rain cover do you use?
wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk/collections/camera-lens-video-covers/products/c80-all-in-one-camera-lens-cover-reversible
Great video 👍 female Red Deer are know as hinds, not does as is the case with Fallow Deer.
Bloody hell, yes I know that, I don't know why I've called the doe I know their hinds, just forgot, it's been a year lol 🫣
Another brilliant video congratulations regards Dave👍
Cheers Dave 👍
Awesome video and some great images, that last photo in the rain 😍 hoping to head over soon to try my hand at getting some 📸🤞
Great vid Ash. Its local to me,im going thursday and friday this week.was there weekend and the rut has started. A tip for you.put rosthern entrance in your sat nav. This will take you in at the opposite end, where all the action is 😊
Hi Sean yeh I have just spent two days there not much action at the moment but, a lot of noise and prancing around but no rutting, it seemed a bit quiet towards the far end by the Hall, got my best footage at Knutsford car park end. just uploaded a short.
Please support me ❤
Cheers I'm hoping you will do a review on the monitor as Im hoping to buy one next year.
Hi Tony Hey i will try to get one done in the next few weeks, 👍
