  • So this week I headed out towards the Yorkshire Dales and went as far as Rippon to a little privately owned nature reserve called High Batts, Situated on the Bank of the river and has around 32 acres of woodland and open meadows.
𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙨 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 have three photography hides, the pond hide, the hotel hide and the Riverside hide two of which overlook the river Ure, where you will often see the kingfishers flying up and down as well as grey herons, little egrets and if you're lucky you may catch a sighting of the otter.
I spent a full day here photographing wildlife, and enjoying this lovely cat nature reserve from sitting in the hides to walking through the meadows photographing butterflies dragonflies kingfishers a wide variety of small woodland birds, sparrowhawks and even the odd Roe deer that comes passing through, this truly is a little gem of a nature reserve hidden within Yorkshire.
𝙃𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝘽𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙨 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 is a members-only nature reserve and you can join by visiting their website highbatts.org.... for £11.00 a year.

An incredible place. I would love to visit a place like this but in our state nothing like this exists. Those paths are a great idea. It keeps people from trampling all over precious habitats but allows them to be right in the middle of it👍

yeh it is a lovely spot, and I agree having paths like that brings you close to the wildlife/insects but keeps them sage at the same time. 👍

Got my membership and visited today. Fantastic. One point to make is that the code they give you also gets you through the quarry gate if you arrive before it is opened. More importantly the code gets you out if the quarry closes and they lock the gate with you inside !!!

Nice one Ash, really enjoyed that visit around the Private reserve, I'd imagine after seeing this the membership will vastly increase, lol.. The hides looked fantastic and the Hotel hide looked well stocked with books and picture which would keep you going all day!
So nice just to head out and have a look and see what turns up, from the surprise Roe Deer Buck in the morning and the Otter cross the path, plus the beautiful male Kingy I'd say that was a pretty good session!
I was on my lunch break and saw this pop up so I thought I'd grab a cupper and a KitKat and watch it. Some cracking environment image shots and loved the 'B' Roll sections and music which flowed really well throughout the video.
For me missing the UK, your videos are sure filling the gaps. Cheers mate for another nice Vid. R🙂

Hi Richard many thanks for your comment good to hear from you, glad you enjoyed this little video of my walk around High Batts nature reserve.
It has been somewhere I have been planning on visiting for a long time but just never found the time to get round to going over that way, so with the bit between my teeth I got in the car and decided this was the day, with beautiful weather and a temperature of 27 degrees it was going to be a hot one.
I think I was very fortunate with the wildlife and the Roe Deer, it's just about being in the right place at the right time I guess,
I hope I didn't disturb your lunch break ☕all the best mate and I'll see you soon 😊

Thanks! This is relatively local to me so my application is already on its way! Funnily enough I took a picture of an "otter" the other week which I shared on instagram. A few people correctly pointed out that the features were more like a mink. Mine looked quite like yours but as it was land I could see it was over 3ft long. As mink are more like ferrets in size the jury is still out on that one 😃

Hi and many thanks for the comment, yeh I had not given it much thought to be fair, I saw the otter in the morning and just assumed that, that was what it was in the river, I did not give the image much thought other than Otter lol, well I know better now, look a little closer next time and pay more attention. 😊
