i saw a squat toilet in Milan at a soccer stadium. the whole process sounds like an aftermath job for Mr. Clean LOL
Hahaha😂What a place to see a squat toilet!!!
hahahahaha 🤣
Firstly, I really appreciate you both being more open in this video. It can be a bit scary to be a bit more direct and even maybe vulnerable. I love hearing those things from creators I like to listen to, as it, imho, gives a more realistic window into what it's like to have lived those lives. I can learn a lot through you both to help me be prepared when I do finally go to Japan. Actually just about to start freelancing for a Japanese company and so now I'm in a whirlwind learning about work culture, taxes, everything! It's a lot, even as a remote worker. My tax rate is gonna be just above 50% between US and Japan combined! But I'm happy to get a foot in the door at least. I'd really love to see you talk about more vloggers you enjoy, especially general life bloggers you enjoy watching. Since the last video about it, I've been seeking more out, and it's cool to see! I'd also like to learn a bit more about your individual work histories in Japan, maybe cons/comic markets, maybe favorite places that you visited outside of the bigger cities, and what it was like to come back to the states. Sort of like what Chase had mentioned, I'd be curious if you both had a similar experience. Oh and I'd love to see what you all are doing now, like the work Felipe is doing with Marvel. Sorry for commenting later, I was in deadline hell for my next chapter last week! lol I kinda laughed when Felipe told the story about going out after finishing his chapter cause that's me right now, just ate a meal after finishing my work. lmao. Thank you for the longer video, and it always makes my day when I can sit down and listen while I work or have lunch or dinner. It feels very casual, which is nice, versus the overly energetic vloggers I tend to see.
I'd love to hear more about Felipe's time working in the Manga industry and since I don't know anything about 5Duck other than what I've learned here, let's get some origin stories and time in Japan! Keep doing what you're both doing my dudes!
I'll like to see if they can react to MrJapan's channel on what's happening in Japan content videos. And yeah, the Japanese economy is not like what it used to be back in the 80s.
Yeah!
🦆🦆🦆
Love hearing this stuff
Adam Broseph! Thx🙏
Thanks Adam👍
This was pretty good thanks! Chase is excellent he has a great channel!
I started watching his videos, and I agree with a lot of what he says!! I lived in Japan in 2000 and experienced similar situations as him.
Yeah, his channel is great👍
Great video guys! What I really love is this is real, you´re sharing what you went through. Keep it that way!!!
Roger that! Thanks for tuning in and supporting our channel, Sergio!🙌
Yes sir👍
After living in Japan, well Tokyo, I agree with you two and, has you, I had the similar experience when dealing with Japanese people. I can relate. I don't know what you can talk about, but no stress, that's what I like about the channel. The causal convo.
Sweet! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying Cringe Musume and our casual convo style 😄 Much appreciated!
Thank you for tuning in, I’m glad you’re enjoying our stuff🙏 Even though we try to reach a broader audience, I think our stories resonate stronger with people who have an experience living in Japan. Please come back and feel free to comment/share your experiences too👍
I work in publishing in the states, so it'd be cool to hear more about your experiences working in Japanese publishing. It'd also be interesting to hear more stories from Duck about doing shows.
Thank you, Jim! We'll definitely have more stories about the manga and music industries in Japan. Thanks for watching!
Oh that's cool👍 And yes, we will talk more about our experiences from now on, including my stories🦆

I agree with Duck that the native Japanese or those who have lived there a long time are a more interesting to get to see more about Japan below the surface level. I like to find the more niche topics rather than the same stuff over and over like "basic", living, shopping, etc. Overall, I'd really like to get a better understanding of what life is actually like there. I would like to be able to go to Japan for an extended period of time to take advantage of some manga education or maybe language studies. (Idk if I'm too old for a student visa for anything like that though). Getting to see things can really help set more realistic expectations, though some of it you can't know until you get there.
Yeah, it seems that the gaijin Japan TH-camrs are the mainstream Japan contents on TH-cam now. Which is interesting because a lot of'em started their channels as J-Vloggers talking about their actual lives and experiences. Then, somewhere along the way, maybe they saw the surface level contents getting way more views and decided to changed their styles???🤔Don't get me wrong, I do watch and enjoy tourist-y channels too, and believe everyone should enjoy the surface level Japan to the fullest if that's what they're into. To be fair, it's not like the ground level or underground Japan's any better. It's actually pretty hardcore because it's real life😅 For a student visa, I don't think there's an age limit. BTW, going to school to learn Japanese and make Japanese friends is the best way to experience Japan for sure👍
As a Filipino American with 30% Belgium and 30% Chinese ancestry. I found it very similar like how Filipinos and other Asians do. Im not very good in speaking in Filipino, but i understand some, and also Spanish too. Anyway i found Mandarin Chinese and Japanese more interesting so i can learn more about their culture than just pop culture. For my interests in Japan is more to zen temples and motorcycles, and martial arts stuff.
Yeah, it seems like every 2nd generations had similar experience😆 And yeah, if you're into temples, motorcycles, and martial arts, Japan is THE place👍
When my dad started speaking to me in English, I stopped speaking Spanish. He'd always try to make us speak Spanish, but it was game over. My mom spoke both fluently, but she's very American culturally. I'm the oldest, each of my siblings spoke less Spanish than the previous. lol I'll pick it up again...
when we would speak to our grandparents in Mexico, my dad would be on the phone in the other room telling us what to say
@@cluepac Nice! 😊I remember talking to my American relatives over the phone as a kid in Argentina and fumbling for English words lol I'd been in Argentina long enough to start forgetting my English 😂
Haha Word!
@@FelipeSmithYT 🤣❤
Hahaha word😂 Both of my parents spoke English, but they always spoke to me in Korean even though I only understood less than half of what they were saying. I don't think they were training or preparing me, but it sure did help a lot when I moved to Korea. Same deal with my Japanese friends. At one point, no one spoke to me in English, just straight Japanese, no chaser🍶🤣
Also consider that what you did is impressive. Extremely impressive.
It's also impressively extreme. I've seen him working in Japan🤓

I am not an "LBH" as a person but I am an "LBH" in an artistic sense. I am a solo artist that has not done very well in the States. I traveled to Japan a year ago with no booking agent or management and laid the groundwork for my return this year for Halloween. Last year, I had 2 gigs in Tokyo and 1 in Fukui. This year I have 9 gigs from Tokyo to Fukuoka and back. I have been treated so much better by Japanese audiences that I am focusing on frequent returns and less on gigs in America. In my limited experience, I have found that the music business attracts more people that can communicate in basic English. I don't know any Japanese but have confidence in my ability to tour Japan using a combination of extensive preparation and Google Translate. I just keep my sentences as short and to the point as possible. Lucky that music is so universal because you don't need to know the language to share emotions and connect with people over music. I get people asking me if I'm going to try to score with Japanese Women but that is the last thing on my mind. You can't go acting like a Passport Bro if you plan on coming back because your actions may have unforeseen consequences and affect your bookings in the future. Its possible to play in Japan on your own but it takes a lot of preparation and a little bit of guts.
Hello, fellow musician✊ First of all, thank you for tuning in to our channel. As someone who also went to Japan to do music stuff, I believe there’s nothing “LBH” about artists/musicians traveling overseas to find audiences since art & music are appreciated differently in other countries and cultures (remember the documentary film “Searching for Sugar Man”?). I don’t know if you’ve met any LBHs/Charisma Men while you’re in Japan, but their whole purpose pretty much boils down to: Just being in Japan as a foreigner and do stupid shits until life passes by. I'm pretty sure you know this too, but artists/musicians, students, businessmen, immigrants, etc. have purposes and totally different mindsets to begin with. So, not the same👍
@@DJ5DucK I will look up Sugar Man
is it こんあもんですよ? I’m learning and that’s a new phrase for me
🤓Ackchyually, it's "こんなもんですよ"☝ Meaning, "It's just how/what it is".
Thank you for the valuable information.
Thank you for tuning in👍 The vid was just a small chat and was uploaded to see if people would like to hear more about it. We will talk about it more in the future👍
@@DJ5DucK Thank you for your reply. I think it's an interesting and valuable side story in the history of manga. I'm looking forward to your next video. arigato.
When I was doing Japan trips for Otakon, I was told a few times that I was "polite but direct", and was assured it was meant as a compliment. And you aren't kidding about business drinking with music industry peeps!
HAHAHA😂 Music people = the best (and worst) people to drink with!

Thank you🙏 And yes, we're planning to do longer episodes👍
100%, I was at a bar in Taito-ku late one night and this guy from Canada came in trying to make himself sound cool, talking about that he "knew" Yakuza and how he thought the owner of the bar was hot and he wanted to f**** her. He just gave me the worst vibes, just a creepy dude talking himself up, almost like he was in Japan just because he was fleeing criminal charges in Canada. I asked the kid working the bar in Japanese if he was okay if I left, because I didn't want to leave the kid working the bar alone with this guy being the only clientele in the place.
Oh no😱One of those "I know yakuzas" gaijin dudes!!! Yeah, we def met those too and we'll def talk about them soon! BTW, sorry for the late reply. Don't know why but TH-cam comments get lost in the mix.

@notgabrieluna Thanks for tuning in! 💥
In Argentina is never a good idea drinking with your boss.
Haha Yeah, keeping business and pleasure separate is a wise choice 😂
I dunno if I could live in Japan because of the drinking culture. I don’t drink or smoke so I would feel bad not going out with my friends or turning down drinks.
I'm gonna have to face that the next time I visit! LOL I predict that most buddies will be shocked to see that I no longer drink 😂I could order an Oolong tea and pass it off as an "Oolong-High" if I wanted to skirt the issue but, nah, I'll face the music and fess up like a real Otoko!💪🤣
@@FelipeSmithYT The smoking is much harder to manage than the drinking.
@@jimvowles Haha! What's up, Jim? Yeah, the smoking is off the charts for sure 😂
@@FelipeSmithYT It got significantly better in public, but the old guard still struggles with that addiction pretty badly.

I would be curious to have some nights out like this! I'm not much of a drinker myself, but I can handle my drinks pretty well with being, uh, bigger. Lmao When I was a bartender in LA, I used to have nights as a patron on my days off and it was always fun hanging out and drinking with friends. Is it pretty standard to have all types of drinks? I absolutely cannot stand beer (and can't have it to the barley anyway), but I love wine/sake and some other liquoirs.
About the beer thing, you don't have to worry at all☝ It is a common thing for Japanese people to start the night with a beer ("とりあえず生で"), but after a beer or two (5~6 in case of me and Felipe😂) , everyone starts to order different stuff such as wine, sake, shōchū, chūhi, highball, etc. Just tell your friends that you can't do beer and go straight to the hard stuff💪
@@DJ5DucK Sounds like a plan! Thanks for the tip!
@@ArtCrumbs Yeah, there's all kinds of boozy beverages to choose from! "Nama" beer is the classic starter, but you can start off with a Lemon or Grapefruit Chuhai (personal favorite) and you'll be in like Flynn! lol😄

Felipe also mentioned "Little Tokyo" LA. They used to sell deleter papers for drawing manga back in 2000s imported to Japanese bookstores like Kinokuniya. Right now, they sell sketch books and Japanese pens and copic markers for coloring.
That's right! The first time I ever saw Deleter manga supplies was at the Weller Court Kinokuniya in Little Tokyo in the early 2000s. Good times! ⭐
