Knitting With Cat Hair Podcast
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 1 ธ.ค. 2019
Welcome to my channel! My name is Nikki and this is my (mostly) knitting podcast.
First off, I live in a household where cats outnumber humans and as such I'm ALWAYS finding cat hair in my knitting, hence the bame of the podcast 🐈
I have been knitting on and off since the age of 8, and most seriously as of about 2017. Over the last few years I have focused on improving my skills, learning new techniques and have enjoyed delving into more intentional and longer-term projects. I have also fallen in love with ALL the rustic yarns 🤗
In general, this podcast features lots of knitting and now some spinning along with a splash of cross-stitch, embroidery, crochet, macramé, natural dyeing, gardening and Nature as well as frequent cat and local wildlife appearances.
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Making! 💕

So happy that Jana talked about your nice podcast in finnisch knitting tradition, so i could find you❤ Thank you for your nice way of presentation. Lovely greetings from germany, just in holiday in morocco 🎉
Hello and Welcome! That was so kind of Jana to mention me. I adore her and her podcast 🤗 Hope you are having a lovely vacation and Happy Making! 💕
I never read ahead either Nikki! 🤣 and I so should.. I'll never learn! So fun to finally catch up with you girls! Your Mitts and socks are just amazing and so so fun! Happy 2025!💖💖
Hahaha glad to hear I'm not the only one!! 😂 Thanks Sophie 🥰 Hope you had a lovely holiday season and a wonderful start to the new year! ❤️
I love your mum's socks. wonderful colours and they look so warm!
Such a fun episode, thank you Nikki and Laurie! This year's Advent socks are amazing! My suggestion is too late for you but tuck away the information - if you have a light and dark chart but your colours are the reverse, you can convert the light to dark and dark to light quite easily and then print it out so that you don't have to keep chanting to yourself. The trouble is, I forget how! I have done it, and I don't have fancy editing software on my computer. The birds chirping in the background are delightful and your new backyard with all the trees is gorgeous. Happy New Year!
Thank you so much for the tip Alex! I will definitely look into doing that next time, now that I know my brain's limitations 😂 Happy New Year! 💕
@@KnittingWithCatHairI think it has to do with editing a photo of the chart using your phone’s own capability. Maybe!
Great episode. Love the mother/daughter knitting 🥰
Thank-you so much 💕
Such a lovely energy between the two of you and such great traditions. Nikki, I am in awe of your colourwork skills. All of your projects are so beautiful. Hope you have/had a great holiday season.
Awww thank-you so much Andrée 🥰 Wishing you a wonderful 2025! 🎉✨️
Both advent socks are spectacular!
Thank-you so much 💕
Your socks are beautiful. What fun to be knitting with your mum. Your mum seems like she's lots of fun , so when she's finished at your house she's welcome at mine. It's definitely not snowing here !! (I'm in Australia)
thank you for the invite...Im coming over! :) Love Ozzies...we used to live in Tonga
Haha! She definitely is a hoot! 😂
@KnittingWithCatHair I'm looking forward to meeting her 🤪
Chicka DeeDeeDee..
Love the frugal advent calendar! Both pairs of socks are absolutely stunning. (I’ll bet there was some swearing during the knitting😂) The choice of project for advent was also very creative and inspiring. Edited to add men’s sweater patterns: Cobblestone pullover and Cobblestone cardigan (Jared Flood) Beagle (Norah Gaughan) Antler (Tincanknits) Rift (Jared Flood) Ranger (Jared Flood) are a few that I’ve made that have been well received
Thank-you so much! You are so right about the swearing 😂 Thanks for all the pattern recommendations and Happy Holidays 💕
Thanks for charming inspirations. A wonderful Podcast. Best wishes with kind regards
Thank-you so much! Happy Holidays 💕
This was an lovely episode 🎁🧶 I am watching from Norway. This Christmas i knitted «Gib» by Andrea Mowry for my husband and it was a success. Love from Birte @konkyliedesign
Hello and welcome! 🤗 Thank-you for the pattern recommendation. Happy Holidays 💕
Loved seeing you and your Mum in the snow - it’s a very warm 32 degrees here and I’m crocheting a blanket for my Mum who’s in care so it’s acrylic to survive their brutal laundering regime. Have knit my husband a few sweaters and he’s still here after 35 years so have dispelled the boyfriend sweater myth. My favourites are the Dustland by Stephen West and a colourwork using Tin Can Knits Strange Brew so recommend those two.
Thank-you for watching and for the pattern recommendations. I'm also a non-believer when it comes to the boyfriend sweater curse ☺️ Happy Holidays! 💕
What a lovely episode again with your mum. The socks are beautiful,as are the stockings. Thank you so much and sending love and best wishes from my house to yours x
Thank you so much! Happy Holidays 💕
I love love love your Nightingale socks!!! I can’t decide who’s I like better! I love your advent tradition. Making it in the summer is a great idea! For a man’s sweater; i made the Riddari for my husband. It’s a great pattern. Unfortunately it’s a tad too heavy for him (and now a little snug) so it’s better for me.
Thanks so much Gail! I really like the Riddari as well 🤗 Happy Holidays 💕
I love that you did an episode with your mom and that you make projects together. ❤ Your advent socks are both amazing! And those Christmas stockings are beautiful! Merry Christmas!
Thank-you so much for your kind words 🤗 Happy Holidays 💕
Do you wear the fancy socks with shoes/boots or are they like slippers for in house wear?
I think you can wear then however you like 😉
Wow, those socks blew me away! Merry Christmas to you both. Loved the podcast.
Thanks so much! Merry Christmas to you too! 🤗💕
Both Nightingale socks are absolutely beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and your family 🎅🏻🧤🎄❤️🧣❤️
Thank you so much! ❤️ Happy Holidays!
So nice to watch a knitting podcast right in my hometown. Those socks are amazing. I only knit toe up socks on magic loop. The birds in the background were making my cat bonkers lol. (Just some random comments). Merry Christmas
Thank-you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed the episode! 😄
Your sweaters and all your projects are gorgeous! I love how the cables pop with that yarn (the Saven). My recommendation for a men's sweater is the Goatherder by Ann Budd. It's really simple and classy.
Thanks so much for the Goatherder suggestion! I'll have to check it out.
Merry Christmas! I have a reverse Boyfriend curse story. I knit my husband a beautiful Paul Klee sweater, but he never wore it. So, I took it back, wear it sooooo much. It’s my warmest, coziest sweater. I would recommend this for a guy. And use up all your good scraps!
Haha thanks for sharing! I've been eyeing the Paul Klee sweater myself--so many opportunities for colour play 🤗 Happy Holidays!
Oh my heart girl! Your colourwork is just stunning. The socks are incredible . Love all the projects. Merry Christmas to you and yours ❤️
Merry Christmas! I'm so glad you liked the colourwork! 💖
We have a white Christmas here in PEI as well. Your colour work cardigan is looking beautiful! Is the BOR at the steak? I struggled with that when I knit the Thornlea. Merry Christmas to you both!
Thanks so much! Yes the BOR is in the centre of the steek so no end-weaving needed 🤗 Enjoy your snow and Happy Holidays! 💕
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Wonderful episode, Merry Christmas 😊. I understand about brain problems when trying to do the reverse of charts! I love when designers show both options....like on the recently released Catknit pattern. I don't know why, but I'm so intrigued by that pattern 😃
Thanks so much Sandra and Merry Christmas to you as well! 💕
Hi! Those socks are amazing!! Have you seen the socks by sullavikat (Mia Sumell)? They’re something else… Also Lumi Karmitsa, those are also just stunning! ❤ Happy Christmas! 🎄
Thanks for the recommendations Gwen, I'll definitely check them out! Happy Holidays 💕
Thank you for this lovley Episode with you and your mom ❤ and your Advent socks are beautyful 😍 wish you all a merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks Gaby! Hope you had a lovely Christmas 💕
It’s so fun to see your holiday episode with your mom. Your projects are all so beautiful, including your amazing socks! Merry Christmas!
Thank-you so much! Happy Holidays! 💕
They both, the socks, look fantastic, wow ‼️
Thanks so much 🤗
Wow! Your Advent socks are phenomenal.
Thanks, they were a fun knit! 😊
yay once again a fun snowy time with you and sharing wonderful knits and time together....love you!
❤️❤️❤️
i await your christmas show with baileys in one hand and my never to be used needles in the other. so enjoyable.
Yay! Just settling in for the night, and you have your holiday episode up! 🎉🎉🎉 Stay warm in that beautiful snow, both of you! 🤗🤗
Thanks dear Susan 🤗 I very much enjoyed watching your vlogmas and hope you had a lovely Christmas with your Dad 💕
Oooooh now I have to come up with some good project that is stranded colorwork and cast on🤣🤣. I'll be back soon with a new podcast. Just need to get the routines in order a bit😂. Your stockings really turned out super nice😍😍. I love your sweater that you are wearing. I've seen it so many times and every time I get the urge to make one myself😍🤩. You always do so many nice things💕. Now on to the next episode💞💞
Can't wait for your return! And hope you'll join in the KAL 🤗💕
@KnittingWithCatHair I'm already back🤣🥰. I have three patterns that I'm keen on (read in love with🤣), all of them are Harry Potter inspired, so typical for me this season😊🥰
@emilionstyle Sorry, I missed your return! My parents are staying with us so I've not spent much time on YT lately. Can't wait to catch up! ❤️
Oh how I love your new place to do your podcast from, really beautiful😍. Understand what you mean about your Lunenburg, love your choice of colors as usual😍😍. It turned out so nice and your Bolan is stunning on you🥰. It's so much fun to come along on your spinning journey. It already looks so good🤩. Now I'll skip ahead to your next episode😍💞
😘
I finally have some time to catch up with you🥰. Oh how I love your Stephenville crossing, it turned out so nice😍😍. So glad to hear about the new house🤩. Understand that it was a bit stressful to both buy and sell in just 3 days🥵. Now on to the next one💞💞
Thanks so much Emilia! It's so lovely to hear from yoh again 💕
So sorry I'm late on this episode Nikki! But I loved it and made my work lunch knit even more fun!! Gosh i just want to knit all the things too and seeing all your projects is adding to my list! your colorwork socks and colorwork cardi..*swoon* and I want a Sunday Cardi too! aaaannd want to do English paper piecing too 😂.. just need more time! so I will live through you for a bit! 😉 and omygosh the Bob Ross and Painting costume... Brilliant! haha absolutely love that. Thanks for sharing Nikki and can't wait to see you in the next one. Cheers! 🥰xo
Thanks so much sweet Sophie 🥰
Your Lunenberg looked spectacular in that golden, autumnal light Nikki 🤩 So good!
Thanks so much Ailie 😘
Sticking is very well presented by Fruity Knitting. She tried m9re options, and presented one suits me most, too. Fully recomend. Unfortunately l can not write the podcast number to you.
Thank-you for sharing! I'm a huge fan of Fruity Knitting and will look back for the video you mention 🤗💕
I have recently started my first EPP project. Just a little bag for a Christmas gift. Everything I have read strongly suggests not hand cutting papers as they should be identical. You don’t need hundreds and hundreds of papers. After sewing together a medium size grouping the papers can be removed and reused. I would suggest watching Kate at The Last Homely House. She does beautiful EPP quilts as well as other styles. Have fun!
Thanks very much for the EPP advice! A bag sounds like a wonderful way to dip your toes into this new craft 🤗 I have recently been binge-watching Kate Atherly's videos. So much inspiration! Happy Making 💕
Lovely to see you again Nicky and all your lovely projects. Love your Lunenberg sweater. I am over 60 and did the coach to 5k this summer and now run 5K 4 times a week. Just trying to keep healthy as i lost my dear husband 2 years ago and want to be here for my children as long as possible. Love from the Uk, from my home to yours. By the way the only bears here are Teddy bears x
Thank-you for your kind words 🤗 Sorry to hear about your husband. Good on you for taking up a more active lifestyle! I'm still at it, but week 4 has been a huge struggle so I'm back to repeating week 3 until I am able to build up more endurance. I'm not giving up! 💕
@@KnittingWithCatHair I was the same Nicky and had to repeat weeks 3 and 4 a few times. I got there eventually and you will x
On your center of the quilt you could do an appliqué pattern. Wouldn’t take years to do like a paper pieced top. You can find patterns for appliqué flowers or even William Morris’s inspired designs.
Thank-you very much for the suggestions! I'm having a heck of a time deciding what to do 🙈😂
Thank you for not considering purchasing from Temu! Your sweater that you are wearing is stunning! I love your vlog.
Thank-you so much 🤗💕
Hi Nikki! Nice to join you again - loved hearing about your projects - that colourwork looks so pretty, and I'll have fun in a minute looking at the patterns that you've linked. I've been in test mode again - just finished an upcoming design from Beth MacDonald Stone, called Simply the Best - Entredeux, and now I'm just starting one that's due in the first week of January, a garter top called Get Out of the Pool Tee, so lots of fun with the needles! So nice to hear that you are settling into your new house nicely (even with your bear neighbours!), and your back yard looks so wonderful and wild! Cheers, Judith 💜💚
Thank-you so much for the kind words Judith and for sharing what you've been working on 🤗 Best of luck with your test knits! 💕
Loving the stranded colourwork cardigan! I think I can join in the knit along, I’m going to knit my brother a scarf in colourwork. Do I post updates in the hashtag? Or just the finished object? I always say go big or go home 😂 so you go quilt the hard stuff. Your learning curve will be steep! You can do it! 💪🏻 A bear! How exciting and wonderful and scary and all the things… maybe you have a wooden spoon and a pan lid to bang on? That might scare them. What do I know, we don’t have bears here haha! ❤ I actually just did the final stitch on my go go dynamo shawl! 🎉
I'm so glad to hear you'll be joining in the kal Gwen! Feel free to post away using the hashtag. It will be nice inspiration seeing all the lovely colourwork WIPs 🤗 My mom said the same thing about banging on a pot to scare the bears away. If/when we see them again, we will give it a try! Congrats on finishing your Stephen West shawl! That's quite the undertaking! 🤗💕
You had snow! And bears, again, wow! I love your Lunenberg, and I will be making mine for your KAL. You are so brave with all your colourwork projects, and you make them so beautifully.
Yay! Can't wait to see your version of the Lunenburg Alex 🤗💕
Ohhhhh Nikki. I have basted thousands and thousands of hexies. You can google hexagon graph paper and print it onto your card stock! Def use card stock. I baste right thru the paper. Makes for a nice crisp edge . I’m excited to see your quilt. I find basting them is like knitting. Just one more…… lol. Enjoy
Thanks for the EPP advice Carla! I can't wait to dive in 🤗💕
wow, your agnes cardigan is turning out so wonderful. I've seen a few light versions but I think the dark version is my favorite. can't wait to see yours when it's done!!
Thank-you so much 🤗💕
What a lovely surprise this morning - thank you for another episode❤ I really love your color work cardigan ! I so admire color work and am so worried doing it myself and definitely don’t really want to do fingering weight (yet) so I got yarn to start small with a Hozho Cowl by the Native Knitter and I start it as soon as my daughters Classic Ribbed Hat by purl soho is finished. I am also waiting for the Marie Wallin Aran book - I will get it for my birthday and I would love to try the vest called Budle so I hope I can cast that on maybe as a new years cast on, if I can get colors I want 😊
Thank-you Janine 🥰 Dipping your toes into colourwork with a cowl is a great idea as it will allow you to practice your technique without having to worry too much about gauge. Careful though as it can be quite addictive 🤗💕
