Awe, thanks for the shoutout Nikki!! It's a good thing we don't live closer to each other because your knits are such an inspiration to me! Luv everything you showcased today. And I love the longer, chatty episode. It's just like having a coffee/knit date with a friend 🥰xo
Nikki, I wonder if you should keep the same needles for your Starry Night and do a bigger size for the jacket. It might solve the problem for you rather than using bigger needles. You have been so busy with your knitting! Enjoyed this episode very much. Take Care.🥰
Thanks for watching Margaret 🤗 Unfortunately I was already planning on making the largest pattern size so I will have to do some math (and probably have to buy more yarn) if I need to make it bigger. It's really too bad Sidsel's patterns aren't more size inclusive.
I had a similar experience to you with your wayworth cowl when I was making my pressed flowers shawl! I held the nutiden single and even though it is beautiful It is just far too fragile to wear. Every time I put it on I see the holes getting bigger and if it TOUCHES my earrings it rips. I wish I hadn't dedicated so much time and yarn to it. Recently I've been loving using a laceweight alpaca with nutiden . It doesn't change the colour as much as mohair since there is less fuzz. Also your persian tiles blanket is totally stunning!
Didn't want that one to end, Nikki. Every chapter full of intrique! You have made some beautiful pieces, and I really appreciate the way you share your swatching, colour play, modifications, and progress. I knit with Nutiden a lot, too, and have yet to work with only one strand. I want to, and have considered spinning it first. I love your colours in that piece, and hope you can find a way to make it work. Adding a strand of alpaca, as others have suggested, sounds cozy! Congratulations on all your masterpieces! 💫
Thank-you for spending time with me dear Venessa 🥰 I definitely plan on pairing Nutiden with some Alpaca lace in the future, as so many have recommended it 🤗 Hope you are having a lovely weekend 💕
SO many happy wooly projects Nikki! Love knitting along with you. The Stephenville Crossing in the Lichen and Lace is stunnnning. I bought my first Jennifer Beale pattern this weekend: Terra Nova. Am I intimidated? Yes big time. But we can do hard things can't we!
Hi Nikki Love your style. I’m also a big Nutiden fan and had some Skymt - a brown with some rust and grey - I couldn’t work out how to use it, double strand was too thick - and I also have some of the teal. I don’t always like putting a strand of Nutiden with a strand of mohair , particularly darker colours ,as you often see the light silk core strand sticking out and hiding the beautiful nuanced Nutiden But I’ve found that Isager Alpaca 1 works really well held together - it’s laceweight and comes in lots of colours, cheaper than most silk mohairs and just gives a great fabric without hiding the Nutiden colour. It might be a solution for your cowl.
Thanks Leslie 😊 Honestly, the Persian Tiles blanket was not hard at all! I'm proud of the way my crochet skills have progressed but am still not comfortable with making modifications so can't think of myself as more than an experienced beginner 😊
Beautiful makes as always! Your blanket is gorgeous 😍 With swatching colours I had a J.C Rennie advent calendar put together by my husband which I loved but didn’t have a pattern. So what I’m making is an infinity cowl but choosing my own bands of colour combinations ! Not perfect but it certainly allows me to see which work together ( or don’t 😂) I also get something to wear ! Wishing you a Happy New Year.
Hi Nikki with your crochet basket if you just keep working in the round (rather than joining with a slip stitch) it will avoid the seam. They are such a great stash buster and I’m actually working on one atm. Regards, Julie
Thanks so much for the tip Julie! I did find it odd that there was a sl st at the end of each rnd in the basket pattern when there wasn't for the crochet dolls I was making but am not super-knowledgeable when it comes to crochet. I will dedinitely omit in the future 🤗
What a wonderful episode, you could have gone on for at least 2 more hours😍. All of your projects are stunning Nikki😍. Now I have lots of new patterns that I want to make like the Starry night long jacket. I've been eyeing her pink morning mist jacket for a while now🤩. I think the cardigan for your partner/you will be great in the end but this with size inclusion is something LOPI are quite bad at I've noticed. Although when I have looked at many of our Scandinavian designs it seems to be a recurring problem🤔. Not all but many of them. Now I'm going to throw my legs up for a while and rest my sore legs after skiing a little too long😂😂. Can hardly wait for the next episode💞💞
Hi Nikki! I'm only part way though your podcast, but just wanted to comment on your Nutiden cowl - I just read below, and I'm definitely echoeing the comment to pair it with Isager Alpaca 1 - a lace weight that is NOT all fluffy like the mohairs - that would be the perfect solution - you don't need any added fluff with this, with the beautiful Nutiden halo, and if you have enough of the Nutiden, I would just bind off that strip as it is, and use it as a headband or as a small collar with a button - what you have is such a pretty little strip and you may very well mangle the delicate yarn with one more frog... anyway the lacewight non-fluff would be perfect - it is at The Knitting Loft, if you want to search there. Also the baskets and mats are a PERFECT way to use the acrylics and that lovely gift from your stepdaughter - they look wonderful! I may have to nab that idea for my vintage collection of acrylic mixes that I have also hung on to. Anyway, back to the rest of the cast now... I'm doing another test kit and really enjoying it. Cheers, Judith 💜
Your persian tiles blanket is amazing!! So much details! I made a granny square blanket in acrylic yarn years ago and all the cat hair stick to it... one day I threw it (very sad) away. Thank you for mentioning that the pattern is not as complicated as it looks like :) the easter colors look so happy....love it. Happy New Year Nikki love from Germany
Hi Nikki. I’m making the porcelain sweater out of Nutiden. For the main colour which is a little thinner I’m pairing it only with mohair. I think it would be lovely for the shawl. Incidentally I knit most of the body then realized thst I misread the sizing (in cm only, there is a second set of numbers after a slash and I have no idea what it is for) so I had to rip out the whole thing. You can imagine how much fun that was…..🤮 I feel like you should easily be able to get 25st with fingering weight. I would keep trying to up your needle size.
Yes, I think I definitely need to pair the Nutiden with something to save my sanity! A few people have recommended pairing with Isager Alpaca so I think I may give that a go. I admire your determination at ripping back a whole body's worth!! I'm not sure I could've done it! 🙈
Thanks for a fun episode. That Sunset skirt pattern has been on my favorites list for a while. I was planning to make a skirt this winter and wasthinking of improvising something similar since i don't have the pattern.
Hiii Nikki! I had such a lovely time tonight watching this episode and knitting along with it, it's just what I needed. Anyways... 😄 It's so funny how you and I are either knitting/crocheting or planning the same projects ALL THE TIME! I mean! When you started showed the swatch for the Paul Klee sweater, I was like NO WAY😂😂 I'm also planning one, it's so much fun to play with little squares of colors. I'll probably finally put to good use some of the yarns that I dyed last year. They are mostly various tones of yellow, so it will be very gentle yet sunny🥰 I'm still working through my Persian Tiles in the Eastern Jewels theme: I also wanted to do a woolly version so I just went to the Drops website, found all their DK yarns and looked for the closest colors to what the colors of the acrylic the pattern suggests I use. Worked like a charm! As for the Nutiden... Yeah, I feel your pain. Knitting with a strand of mohair indeed adds this shimmery whiteness of the silk that is just too visible. And it's expensive :( I do agree with others that using a lace-weight alpaca does the same job but better. Hobbii also has lace alpaca, Hjertegarn has a very affordable option (Alpaca 400 I think?), Kremke has a super soft one (Baby alpaca lace), Cascade... I need to ask you about that fern behind you! I have a weird memory of you talking about making it? Did I indeed imagine that or did you actually crochet the fern? 😂 If you did, it's so good and realistic! I've also just realized that I never told you that I received the fiber! Thank you so much, Nikki, I love it!
Hahaha great minds think alike 😉 Your sunny Paul Klee sounds lovely! I'm so happy your fibre arrived safe and sound. I hope you enjoy spinning it as much as I do 🤗 Thanks so much for the alternative alpaca lace suggestions! Regarding the fern, I was indeed crocheting one although I've yet to finish it (the fern in the background is a real one 😊). Hope you are having a lovely weekend 💕
On your gas furnace, is the "sensor" they are talking about the thermocoupler? If so, they are super easy to replace yourself and they cost about $10. My gas boiler is very old, also, and I have to replace the thermocoupler every 2-3 years. It takes about 20 minutes total.
Lots of wonderful content! I'd already bought some Jennifer Beale patterns with her discount, as a birthday present to myself (her newsletter had an awesome discount code!), but I had to pause the video to go purchase the Stevensville Crossing...your's is looking so beautiful. I think I'll always have a Jennifer Beale on the needles! I'd been holding off buying a Sidsel Hoivik kit as I'm trying to curb my purchases this year...but when JB released Loch Leven lately I splurged on some John Arbon yarn 🙄😄
Also, I don't know if you watch Kelly and Noelle at the Knits N Pieces podcast? They are in the Sarnia area. Last year Noelle knit the Yell out of Holst Supersoft, I believe, and she made some modifications....I think she may have added a steek. Anyway, if you can find the episode where she talks about it, I think she went in depth about the project
Wonderful! Thanks for the tip! I know there are some issues with the Yell so I am trying to learn as much as I can about people's experiences knitting it as I can before diving in 🤗
This was amazing! Your sweater you want to make. Yell? Glorious. Have you seen the spot sweater? Just an idea for your advent wool. It’s on my list along with 1000 others haha Your knitting is beautiful! See you over on Instagram
Thanks so much Carla 🤗 I wasn't familiar with the Spot sweater so I tried looking it up but seems there are a quite a few "Spot sweater" patterns lol. Which designer is it?
nice to see you finally Nikki..I was missing your happy face. Your completed works are all so gorgeous and yes I promise to make those stocking liners for you. I was thinking a nice satin? Your swatch for the Starry Night coat is beautiful but if you are not happy with the fabric of the main jacket maybe buy the same yarn as the cuffs? I love the swatch from your advent calendar and what a great use of the wools. How about doing the drop idea but maybe make the single contrast stitch into a double drop stitch to match the geometric shape of the colourwork...OMG I laughed out loud when you said boucle!! I told you its happening again..,just follow me for more knitwear trends :) Fingers crossed interest rates decline...Granny is coming again xo
You make such a lovely podcast and fantastic knitting. Would be great with show notes, though, so you know needle sizes etc instead of guessing all the time.
Thanks Maria. I always do show notes which can be found in the video description. Sometimes you have to click "more" to see them all but there are links to all the projects I talk about along with the things I mention in the video. Happy Making!
Hello, thank you for having introduced Maria Gullberg to me. Her book Virka Rutor will be in my wish list.😊
Oh I think you may have intended this comment for someone elses video as I'm not familiar with that designer/book 😊

My pleasure Carol! And thank-you for the kind words 💕
Those stockings are gorgeous. Lucky recipients.🧦🧦🧦
Thank-you so much ❤️
I actually really liked the lighting in this episode! 😊
I ended up being able to fix the brightness in my video editor 😉 Thanks for watching Alexandra and hope you are doing well 💕
Beautiful projects! I love the blanket. I’m working on her fruit garden blanket. Love the Christmas stockings
Thanks so much Maureen 🤗 Janie Crow has so many beautiful patterns! Happy making 💕
Just stumbled onto your channel. Beautiful project .
Welcome and thank-you 🤗
What a lovely podcast. I am glad to have found you. Thanks for the recommendations as well.
Thanks so much! Happy Making 🤗💕
So good to see you Nikki! Really enjoyed this one, it was gold! ❤
Thanks Gwen 🥰
