SOLVED my U029E with "Exhaust Fluid Service" and "Reduced Speed". For the past month I have been working on this issue on my 2017 Silverado 2500HD LT 6.6L. Tonight I purchased my 3rd NOX2 (downstream) sensor and IMMEDIATELY EVERYTHING WAS FIXED. So, what happened? Why did the previous 2 NOX sensors NOT work? A clue came from GM Parts Direct as the original part number was listed as "DISCONTINUED". Previously we had purchased 2 numbers matching NOX2 sensors 12676706. So why did these sensors not work when the one see image below immediately worked? CHEVY! They programmed out part number 12676706 from the computer and programmed in 12718676. 12718676 CURED OUR U029E and "Exhaust Fluid Service" and "Reduced Speed" issues. Companies are still selling NOX2 part number 12676706 because it was the original device DO NOT PURCHASE THE DISCONTINUED NOX2 SENSOR 12676706. INSTEAD PURCHASE THE 12718676 PART NUMBER.
Do you have to disconnect the battery before removing that fuse box from the connectors? Or is it ok to leave the battery connected?
It’s a good idea to disconnect the battery yes. I had the battery connected for testing. Thanks.

Hey DadsGarage , I have a 1999 Silverado starts then dies . Can you please help me understand which code scanner (diagnostic tool ) I need to repair my truck . How good a scanner should I buy ? Can you recommend a brand and model ? Thank you much !

I just had this done a couple of weeks ago at my local Chevy dealer on my 2015 3500HD Dually with 88K miles. I Barely Squeaked in with just under 10 days left on the 10yrs/120K miles warranty, (Whew) otherwise I would have had to either do it myself or have it done by my Awesome Family owned shop here in town. It Saved me a Bunch of $$$ having GM pick up the tab on a POS Poorly designed emissions system that Shouldn't be on there in the first place !!!🤬
That’s good, you got lucky on that one! Thanks.
Got the U010E code this morning will look at that harness this evening.
Do you have a link to all the schematics that you used?
Hopefully you find something simple. I use General Motors service information by subscription. Thanks.

Can they still fold??
Yes they can. Thanks.
Holy crap always check them bolts 8:30 found loose once whole vehicle freak out
Yep! I’ve seen that a few times. Thanks.
How do you do a diagnostic test like the one in the video where could I get one done at and is there a name to the test
A fluid and filter change can’t hurt if it’s long overdue. Most scan tools that are capable of graphing can be used to test for excessive torque converter shudder.
Are you supposed to do a flush or a filter replacement?
Multimeters don’t really pick up the draw from the starlink system as it uses power in pulses. A picoscope picks the little spikes up easily.
It’s an absolute must these days. Thanks.
2016 Chevy Cruz LS 1.8 automatic I have it at the shop right now and they’re currently trying to figure out what the issue is with my vehicle putting another transmission and it’s still not communicating with my vehicle 😢
Sound like it has a blown fuse or a wiring fault somewhere. The transmission must be programmed to the vehicle when it is replaced also. Find a different shop. Thanks.
@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist that’s pretty much what the guy was telling me. He said the transmission passed all the test. I’m not a mechanic so I’m not sure what that means but what he said was now let us hooked up to the car. The computer won’t see the TCM or anything, but he said he’s gonna continue to work on it and give me an update. I just hope he’s able to figure it out and I don’t have to spend money with him to go to someone else to spend more . Thanks a bunch
What’s crazy is I have a transmission shop doing the TCM right now. They actually replaced the entire transmission, but they called me telling me that it’s still not communicating with my vehicle. Sooo at a lose rightnow
Saved me a lot of time mate. Excellent video. Subscribed 👍🏻🇦🇺
Thanks!
How about explaining what you’re doing, why you’re doing it, what the results are and what they mean. I could crawl under my vehicle and spray my catalytic converter with soapy water and not say anything too, But what does it mean ? I learned more by reading other people comments than I did watching your video.
Hmmb. Check out some of my other videos if you’d like. Thanks.
Changed battery and this silly warning came on. My truck has only 19,000 miles. My diagnostic tester will not erase it.
Make sure all of the nuts are tight on the fuse block at the top of the battery. Thanks.
I inherited my father’s 2019 Outback wagon upon his passing. Sat for like ever. I drive it three times a week and had to replace the stock battery. New battery like others have said in the comments worked for months and then all the sudden after sitting for 2 days is dead dead. Jumped it and hoping it’ll be ok for awhile. Alternator shows it’s putting out as it should. So it has to be a parasitic draw issue.
Interesting… I wonder what could be going on. Thanks for sharing!
More an attitude problem ie I did my part it’s not my problem then leave

Could you possibly list a part number for the module? I’m pretty sure I’ve found what to buy but I want to be 100% before I pull the trigger.
You should get the part number from the old module for best results. Otherwise, your local dealership should be able to look it up for you by Vin number. Thanks.
I accidentally put 2.5 gallons of DEF in my fuel system For my brand new 2023 f350 and drove about a mile and my truck started to sputter. I immediately pulled over to a nearby Wawa gas station and got my fuel tank drained because I knew I had def in the fuel system. I got it drained on the spot and ran a few gallons of diesel to flush even more out and than I completed filled the tank to dilute whatever def was still in the system and I put a super concentrated bottle of fuel treatment in the fuel tank. The truck was able to run without the sputter but I had a huge loss of engine performance because the system detected water in my system and recommended me to drain my fuel filter. I drained it and all of my power was restored. I even drained the filter a second time for good measures. I drove around until I got down to a half a tank of fuel and I fueled up again to the max a couple days ago. It’s been 3 weeks since the incident and the truck is still fine. I called around and was looking at online post. All i been getting was “that truck will never start again” and “you screwed up your truck. It’s over”. A lot of you guys tend to exaggerate. I’m not replacing my fuel tank and lines and pump. If you catch the problem early enough you will be fine.
Thanks for sharing. Usually the problem shows up later as the pump and injectors will usually get damaged from the DEF and then it slowly gets worse.
@@DadsGarageDiagnosticSpecialist how When I literally drained the system immediately after my engine sputtered? Then I ran a few gallons of diesel to flush it out even more, drained it again and filled up my system with fresh diesel, AND drained my fuel filters twice and I have a concentrated bottle of fuel treatment/injector cleaner that’s good for 300 gallons inside the system. I even filled it up again with fresh diesel after it was on half tank. The def fluid is way too diluted to cause any damage at this point. All of that stuff is going to get dumped into the filter. That’s what the filter is there for. It’s been drained of a lot of that def. I drained it until the pasty white stuff no longer appears. Some of these shops just want to take as much money as they can from out of people.
You're the expert, I just do it every day for a living. I appreciate that you shared your results, because others may have the same outcome. I suppose if not too much got into the system it may be able to be saved, I know I'd do it on my own vehicle, but then I'd be waiting for the day that it dies or fails to start on me. The thing about fixing vehicles professionally is that you have to stand behind your work and warranty the outcome.... Lets suppose I flushed it and got it running for a little bit, then it unexpectedly stalls in the middle of an intersection due to an injection pump failure and there is a crash.... lawsuit lottery. The customer now has full confidence in his new truck, takes it on long trips without a worry, tows with it, all that good stuff. Runs great and he's loving it. The manufacturer themselves requires replacement of the whole system too. The DEF in this truck came from a pump so I think he put quite a bit in it, it all settled to the bottom of the tank and the pump picked up mostly all DEF and sent it through the whole system, the filter did not stop any of it. Anyways I know what I've seen, and I know all the diesel sad stories I've seen, heard, and been a part of over the years. These diesel fuel systems eat themselves alive running with clean uncontaminated diesel so just give it some time. Thanks.
thanks for the video , does this work for long mileage cars , mine 260k KM second hand never been flushed and i got TCC shuddering (60-80 KM speed ) , other functions working properly
Yes changing the fluid helps a lot on high mileage vehicles that haven’t been serviced. Thanks.
My cousins 2108 Impreza goes dead overnight if she leaves the key in the ignition. Dont know what is doing it, but the simple workaround was to always remove the key.
Thanks for sharing.
We're looking at the battery neg still connected. And you're removing the fuse box.
And nothing bad happened. Thanks.
Hi how do you flash the system?
You need the equipment and subscriptions. It’s easier and cheaper for the average person to take it to the shop to have it programmed. Thanks.
ive been dealing with this code for too damn long, i already spent 6k on a transmission shop and they couldnt fix it and told me not to bring it back......no honor or backing in their work. so given how this cruze looks identical to my 2014 impala lt 3.6 flex fuel, im going to take apart the fuse box and see, test for continuity from the box to the connector also. it has a new TCM in it, not even 2 weeks old. the way my car is right now, i cant use it for work because it wont past inspection.
Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it needs a diagnosis. Thanks.
is that being blown by an exhaust leak or boiling off?
The exhaust was still cold. It’s blowing bubbles in the soapy water. Thanks.

Where did you do the exhaust side leak test? I have a 2018 Cruze, I was thinking to smoke the exhaust.
On this particular engine, the turbo mounts directly to the cylinder head all as one piece with the manifold. So there really isn’t much that can leak exhaust ahead of the turbo other than the gasket at the cylinder head. Thanks.
Can someone explain to me why my 2019 l5p and my 06 lbz both have the same injector 4 issue? Had to replace the whole injector on my l5p now not sure about my lbz?
Very unlikely that anything related is going. The LBZ has injector failures at high mileage intervals. Thanks.
yo i got one of those elm327 dongles and idk if mine is fake but theyre complete garbage. sometimes they work, sometimes they cause a canbus error and throw every code imaginable and put the car into limp mode. i would reccomend if anyone has that dongle, never leave it plugged in and only plug it in if you have a way of disconnecting the 12v battery like a cressant wrench since that was the only way i was able to clear all the codes and get the car out of limp mode with another scanner to clear codes.
That’s very interesting. I have an old Elm Scan 5 somewhere, but I’ve never tried it on one of these modern vehicles with multiple CAN networks. Thanks.
How much was that module?
It was about $300 or less if I remember correctly. Thanks.

what do you have to do after the repair to get the flashing light to go away?
That depends what level of restriction you are in and what the actual cause of the failure was. Check out some of my other Duramax videos. Thanks.
