Great reaction. Awesome insight. Prince live was often quite different then Prince studio. When Prince played this, it was soon after wardrobe malfunctiongate and the censors were at high alert. So when Prince played his guitar behind the giant sheet, his guitar was a giant phallic symbol and was Prince snubbing the censors (who he had a longtime feud with). Also the Foo Fighters were hanging with Neil Peart and Rush when unbeknownst to them Prince was covering Best of You. Someone ran out to tell them Prince was covering them at the Superbowl. They said "cool"!. He did this because they covered Darling Nikki without telling him. Prince was the only artist (as far as i know)who added multiple covers to his Superbowl setlist. Sampling Queen, Dylan, CCR AND Foo Fighters. All live! No lip syncing like so many including you know who... Or air banding like Red Hot Chili Peppers(embarrassing). His motto:"Real music played by real musicians." Legendary performance. Master at his craft!! RIP Prince 🥰💜💜

There are 9 songs on The Visitors, and this song absolutely should have been on the album. I'm going to share something with you and I'm not sure how this will come across because it's so obscure and hard to remember how things turned out, timeline-wise, but I can tell you that there were different lyrics to 'When All Is Said And Done' and several other songs. Now, I'm not talking about the ones we all know about. Example: Why Did It Have To Be Me/Happy Hawaii, My Love My Life/Monsieur, Monsieur, Chiquitita/In The Arms Of Rosalita to name some. No, these were songs that I had heard before but from some place in the past that seemed to be erased. Like timelines were changed. Like a Mandela Effect considering the Bruce Springsteen album cover featuring a bandana in his back pocket that is now a baseball cap. If you don't know what I mean, look it up. *** Anyway, I will tell you that I have written alternate lyrics before but there are some that I swear did have different lyrics, like One Of Us, and even that old silly song Dum Dum Diddle (both of these I remember as I've posted them on one of my blogs; different-same-songs.blogspot.com/ if you wanna check) as you can see One Of Us is posted there as I recalled it from where, I don't know. Then the lyrics of Vanuatu (Dum Dum Diddle) and these to me are the original and finite lyrics. Vanuatu is a place like Hawaii, but much further in the south seas. Given that they did Happy Hawaii in the same year as Arrival (that includes this weird song called Dum Dum Diddle) it's not too far fetched to make the "island themed" connection. And Arrival as mentioned before does have a couple of songs that do indeed have alternate lyrics that they recorded; Happy Hawaii & Monsieur, Monsieur (although the latter is still unreleased and you can only hear it as part of an interview with talking over it) anyway... *** There are different lyrics that I recall. But again, I couldn't tell you *how* I came to know them or why they're in my head. My blogger of alternate lyrics is for the most part my own lyrics telling different stories, but One Of Us and Vanuatu are, I feel, not mine. Like those two songs were indeed written by Bjorn. And I'll share some notes with you about other songs. There are different lyrics to; Head Over Heels (drastic changes, and it's about a woman like in 'Elaine') Lay All Your Love On Me (drastic changes, and it's more about dancing and rhythm) Our Last Summer (heavily changed and more about a reoccurance every summer) Slightly different lyrics to; Fernando (In many years, I haven't seen a rifle in your hand) Eagle (And I dream that we all take wing) (Is it true I can just take wing) (And I dream I can just take wing) The Winner Takes It All ~which was oddly in Mamma Mia (The gods may throw the dice) (I don't wanna talk, cause it makes me feel sad) *** I will share with you the original lyrics to When All Is Said And Done. Frida once said she poured all of her sadness into the song and this lyric is what I remember and the sound of her voice, sadder than what we hear in this timeframe, would show why she would make that statement. In the lyrics we are seeing and hearing now, the song isn't really that sad. It's almost as if she's singing about an event that will repeat, like a holiday of sorts. But here are what I believe to be the original lyrics, as I remember them... *** Here we go Down the road Another path to face Deep inside We can't hide How fast we seemed to race Hard getting past the heartache All seems lost and nothing won When the summer's over And the dark clouds hide the sun Neither you nor I'm to blame When all is said and done In our lives We have pined On strange and lonely treks To repeat Pain and defeat Words can be too complex We're going in different steps No sense feeling regret It takes a toll, on the soul And when it had begun Neither you nor I'm to blame When all is said and done There were days I had some hope That things would change for us Smoke and haze I tried to cope Another lost dream that was Clear-headed and open eyed The distance of us so wide Standing calmly at the crossroads No desire to run There's no hurry anymore When all is said and done Raising one last toast to our love One last wish may come Sailing free to every shore When all is said and done *** This is mostly what I recall. But again, I really couldn't tell where or how I remember all of this. It's just, I don't know. Like Bjorn, I'm a songwriter too, so it's probably some connection in the ether that us musicians and writers are all a part of. Something that has always been with us. Holding us. Connecting us. I know you know that connection too. That it's part of you, as well as me. And Bjorn. And ABBA. And so on...

Great reaction and analysis. Frida had done story-telling before: Fernando; Money, money, money; One man, one woman; I wonder (departure) to take a few. In her solo career before and during the ABBA period she did loads of songs that were stories and with very good narrative in the Swedish language (sorry not in English but none the less more than great!). Another great reaction from you - thanks! I've always loved this song and felt so sad that it wasn't on the album. But you're right that it might have been too close to When All Is Said and Done in terms of structure, sound etc. And ABBA always made very heterogenous albums, a little of this and a little of that. They never stuck to one sound og concept. So even though each album had a certain ambience, they were always inconsistent in terms of style, themes etc. So, in that regard, it was a very ABBA thing to do to put Two for the Price of One on the Visitors in stead of Should I Laugh or Cry, which in my opinion is a far better song. Hearing Frida's vocals on this song isolated is a really wild and wonderful thing.

I absolutely adore the verses of this song.... but the 'chorus'/middle 8/whatever always feels quite misplaced (musically even more than lyrically) It takes a very abrupt turn from intriguingly melodic to somewhat cheesy, predictable and cliched. But that's just to my ears. Personally I feel 'Cassandra' is a much stronger B-Side track from that time frame.... although recorded after 'The Visitors' had been released possibly. And I'm really glad that Frida's vocals having been getting the recognition for so long now... after them being relegated to second to Agnetha's in many listeners during the 70's 80's and 1990s by mant people

@@popcornphilosopher Erk... i suppose I do. But then I always felt Benny seemed more 'sonically involved' than Bjorn in creating the ABBA Sound. And while I adore Agnetha's voice, I always seem to appreciate the counter melodies that Frida provides in the A led tracks. The Difference in their voices is what makes ABBA.... (And to my ears some of the F led tracks still sound vocally 'fresh' and not defined to a particular decade performance technique/sound... god that makes me sound obsessive and pretentious!!!) I so respect that Frida was so lacking in ego that she never had a problem of Agnetha being favoured for the more 'Single Worthy' tracks... and actually preferred the freedom some more non conventional compositions gave in in finding new expressive ways to perform. Plus she never envied the OTT attention Agnetha got... and tried to be supportive when A felt low and depressed by how invasive it was At least from what I remember of Swedish Language interviews I read as a kid in the 80's when she was doing her solo stuff... (as well as older 70's magazines) which may be misremembered and sketchy after 4 decades!!!! 🤣 As you can guess-even as a Swede- becoming an ABBA fan in the 80's was seriously uncool!!!!

Thx, The visitors album is one of the very first to be recorded, arranged and "transcribed" entirely digitally in their new studio. It is clean that benny and Michel tretow have experimented with the new capabilities of their equipment. Various effects are heard, vocoder without a dedicated device at the time via the mixer, we can hear it on "when all is said or done", a little more on, "Two for the price of one" and A lot present on, Under Attack. On some of the last tracks perhaps they also used an "autotune" effect, before its time.

By the way, I love the Large Marge clip. When I was a teenager way back in the mid-80s when Big Adventure came out, I worked in a movie theater which played it. I used to love going in and watching the audience reaction during that part. Everything about Big Adventure is sheer 80s brilliance.

I'm in camp 'shoulda been on the album'. I've always felt that. I don't get Benny's assessment that it didn't have the same production values as the other Visitors songs. And yes, I think it could have easily replaced Two for the Price of One. Granted, that song kind of is a counter-balance to the darker tones of the Visitors, but it's also always been my least favorite of this collection. I think it's a brilliant song. It was eventually included as a 'bonus' track on a later remastered version of The Visitors which I think was a good idea. I also love You Owe Me One and I think that could have been included also.

Well that's a rarity. This error exists only in a few copies pressed as far as i'm aware. Btw i also think that (at least lyricwise) SILOC's sequence was the Benny/Bjorn written song 'SLOWLY" that Frida recorded in 1984 but with Kristy Mc Coll instead of Agnetha since ABBA was over.Kristy did an excellent job in the backing vocals and her husband producer Steve Lillywhite did a fantastic production to the song made it sound like a respectful ABBA project. And ihmo far better than Gemini's version which i don't really connect despite being produced by B+B..Could have easily had a place in TV album if it was 3 years earlier.

" All Along the Watchtower " is a song by American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan from his eighth studio album, John Wesley Harding (1967). The song was written by Dylan and produced by Bob Johnston. But you are right in that Jim Hendrix's cover was probably the more well known.
