Two comments about the song. Her brother, Paddy, was the Pastor in the video still you showed. Also, did you hear in the last verse the bride was pregnant with Rudi's child which she lost when she committed suicide. I think the song's point is that revenge does more harm then good. I'm adding a shotgun to the NFE museum. If you thought this song showed some vocal dynamics, the next track will blow you away. Happy Birthday Kate. Another great review IO. Loving your attention to instrumentation, story, and lyrics.

Well, I didn’t even recognize Paddy! I was trying not to look too much because I wanna be a surprised when I watch the Christmas special. Oh OK, so then maybe the story is slightly different than the movie. One thing about the movie is that compared to Hitchcock Truffaut seems more interested in who his heroine is. Maybe that’s why Kate was attracted to it. Other than it being a good movie. And it feels like Kate added more layers to her . Although I am wondering if the grooms name actually was Rudi and I missed it

Thanks for this reaction. This is currently my favourite KB song, which I listen to.everyday. I love it for several reasons:
    1. She comes straight in with the vocals. Love it.
    2. The use of the lyrics - "I won't muck it up"
    3. Its almost a conventional song, for Kate it is anyway.
    4. Her vocals are fantastic, especially near the end
    5. The use of the bell toll and snare for the gun shot really add atmosphere.
    6. Screaming
    7. Who's Rudi?
You really need to see that live performance. Its awesome.

This song is really growing on me. For sure a highlight on the album. It is cool that she comes in right with the vocal. And she’s really having fun vocally. I wonder if they counted in live. I’ll definitely be doing the prince performance. As a reaction. Maybe even soon

François Truffaut, one of my fave directors. If you really want to nerd out, Hitchcock/Truffaut is a book originally released in 1966 and contains, if I'm remembering correctly, a shot by shot analysis of 'Psycho".

Hi Io and thanks again for another KB video. Most days of the week "The Wedding List" is my favourite track from this album and sits very high on my all time favourite songs of hers. It's one of those Kate song that I would recommend to someone new to her music for it gives us love-murder-revenge-madness all in one song (which less face it are common themes in her music) but done with a light, almost playful touch. It is one of the songs that for me personally were not terribly well served by the Christmas TV Special - for me personally the presentation of it felt very Broadway/West End and somewhat obscured her outstanding vocal on this.
However, as other have said, the 1982 Prince's Trust live performance really is outstanding, showcasing how she can go from sounding angelic one moment to sounding like a caged animal the next. And it does feature a famous wardrobe malfunction that she handles without missing step (she would later joke that every time she met a member of the Royal Family she made a fool of herself - from her dress falling off in front of Prince Charles as with the 1982 performance, to asking the Queen for an autograph even though she knew full well that HM didn't do that, but Kate asking anyway just because her son had heard she was to meet the Queen and thought that getting her autograph would be great: and so if her little boy wanted an autograph of the Queen Kate decided to go ahead and make a fool of herself for him, just in the off chance).
One thing about this song that is worth mentioning is that, it might be the same in the US, but in UK (more so at that time), when a young couple was getting married they would make a "Wedding List" registered usually with a local department store, of gifts that well-wishers could get for them as they set up their new home and life together. The unwanted gift that was sent to this wedding was murder and so the Bride makes a new "Wedding List" which is a hit list in the which the only gift that she will bring to her prey is revenge in exchange for the murder given to her and her groom. The wordplay on the two unwanted gifts in terms of "Wedding List" beautifully sets the scene for the song.
I have always thought that there is a post punk/new wave sound to a lot of this album and have always felt this song has reminded me a bit of Siouxsie Sioux or Toyah Wilcox, although I think the Lene Lovich and Patti Smith are also very apt comparisons - and anyway I adore all four.
I think you will get a kick out of the next song and its utterly mad vocal - registering Kate's highest recorded note.
    Thanks again.

    • @popcornphilosopher
      @popcornphilosopher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

That’s a very sweet story about Kate asking an autograph for her son. I had to think about HM for second. But only a second haha. We too have bridal registyies. As well as baby registries. I am honestly to familiar with them because I feel like I’m always having to buy something from them. I can totally see the souxie Sioux comparison too. I really miss that vocal style! I feel like people aren’t as adventurous with their voices and leave the interesting noises to the production which is fine but you know it’s good to change it up now and then! I’ll have to see what I think of TWG in the XMas performance. I wonder if I’ll feel the same way. Also I’m looking forward to the Prince show and not just for the wardrobe malfunction ha!

Ha ha, I didn't know the word was "cherootie"... I always thought it was "shabootie" (a word I made up in my head). I thought it was some kind of devil/witch thing, maybe like a kewpie doll??? Thanks for the great video! See, you even taught this years-long KB devotee something! This is one of those songs that I loved less initially, but now appreciate so much. I love that you watched "The Bride Wore Black". I have to see it, too! Can't wait for the next video.

That’s hilarious! Isn’t it funny lyrics we dont think about to hard but due to repetition it’s like the brain make something up. I know I’ve totally done that until one day I say “wait a minute”…. what’s a shabootie or whatever lyric ! Definitely recommend TBWB! I’m actually gonna rewatch it because I think I missed some things.
