    Where is alll this power come from? We all know that power plants still run on fossil fuels. Not all but most. Also do the EV cars hold their value? Like if you want to trade it in? Sorry for all the questions

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Power sources vary by region, in the Pacific Northwest hydroelectric is the primary source but Natural Gas is used as well. As for EV cars, their value retention varies but generally holds up well due to lower maintenance costs and increasing demand for sustainable transportation.

    1. Haven't seen in person, but still don't think I'd like the cybertruck IRL. Has some cool features but misses some things for me. 2. Annoyed yet another charge location in a completely new build where they could lay it out however they want doesn't have any pull-throughs. That's going to be critical for future adoption and they're still severely lacking on that. Such a boneheaded decision to me. 3. Having the V4 dispensers should mean just a charge module upgrade for full V4 from what I understand, assuming they ran 1000V (rather than 600V) rated lines from the cabinet to dispensers. The DC buss between the cabinets and dispensers themselves are already rated for 1000V.

    Did the car under the Cybertruck have black handles on one side and silver on the other? Or did one side have some shipping material covering it? Looks odd. Also, I live in Vancouver and not sure they are shipping any here yet, not for sale anyway. I haven't heard of any Canadian deliveries yet but maybe it's for a showroom.

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had to go back and look at the footage. When I both shot and edited the footage i wasn't looking at any detail of the Model Y's, my focus was on the Cybertruck. While at first i thought it might have been a reflection, it does appear to have a plastic sticker on the handle, which is odd cause none of the other vehicles have that. This vehicle remains a mystery, while at the Vancouver Auto show last week, I told the Tesla team what we've saw in Blaine, that they knew only of the one at the show which is the only one in town other than the one from the US that's here getting a wrap. Perhaps, this was going to another part of Canada.

    I"m going to ask a question (or questions here) that I've wanted to ask for a while. With the onset of Ford being able to charge at *some* superchargers now, and other OEMs coming on board, the charging ports are not all in the same position as on the Tesla. (I know, duh). Why wouldn't Tesla starting building their supercharging stations like filling stations are now? With pass through lanes, the ability to charge on either side of the island? With covered awnings? Is this too far out of the realm of possibility? Seems like with the advent of the other OEMs coming on board, Tesla would need/should want to accommodate more/different charging port locations, instead of being stuck in the same location based supercharger setups that we see at most supercharger locations. Thoughts?

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey there! That's a really interesting question, I’ve spent a few days thinking about it. It's true that with more electric vehicle manufacturers entering the market, there's a growing diversity in charging port locations. Tesla's Supercharger network has been a game-changer, but the longer cables on this style of charge will help things. Your suggestion of building Supercharger stations like traditional filling stations, with pass-through lanes and charging points on both sides, along with covered awnings, has some merit. However, that would add to the cost of developing these kinds of stations. With that said, Kettleman City Supercharger in Ca is massive development which has solar powered roofs. In largely traveled areas this makes sense, but in some cases where space is a factor a narrow row of chargers does just fine. The fact is while I believe that the parking stalls should be wider, I think various styles and layouts work rather well. Although, the older chargers with the shorter cables will continue to be a challenge for the range of potential vehicles at peak times. We are really still in early days but the need for charging of different speeds is needed. I use a Level 2 charger at a community centre when i play ball hockey for 2 hours, a slower charger works great as i don't require the faster speed like I would on a road trip. Thanks so much for your question. Are you an EV driver?

    • @mikestrock
      @mikestrock 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HeyWeirdos Funny (sad) story. I bought a Tesla Model 3 the Friday before Thanksgiving 2023. I had to pick it up down south from where I live on the following Tuesday. Which was two days before Thanksgiving. My wife (who was also on the title) wouldn't drive to pick the car up, so I had to cancel the order. Ended up buying a Crosstrek instead. But my next car will be an EV. Either a Mach E or a Tesla Model 3. Although I really would prefer a sedan like an older Volvo, but in EV format.

    • @Paul-cj1wb
      @Paul-cj1wb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's the reason for the longer cables on V4's. And they are building more and more pull through stalls now, however, they are limited by what the location allows them. The real-estate owners place a ton of restrictions on EV chargers. They limit the parking area they can use. Especially in red states. So Tesla tries to maximize the small area they are allowed by placing as many stalls as they can so they have to install them as close as possible. You need to go ask these real-estate owners why they only allow such small areas for EV chargers. If you go out west, you will see that parking spots are now being built a bit wider where the location allows, but they are also being slanted to allow for more room. As for ICE vehicles and gas stations, you are aware there's only 2 gas inlet port locations on ICE light duty vehicles nowadays, correct? Right and left rear. That's why the left rear and right front need to be the 2 standard locations that ICE vehicles adhere to. EV manufacturers will more than likely adhere to those 2 locations going forward (outside of Rivian which apparently is doing all it can to fail) if they want to sell the most EVs to use the largest charging network in America (by far) whose vast majority are V3's and will still be for many years to come. Ford has already said they will charge theirs and GM is already using the left rear on the EV's I've seen from them, as does Volvo and Polestar. Also, gas pump stick to one side only not two, just like Tesla does. To be able to use both sides, they install 2 pumps next to each other, one for the right and another for the left. Tesla already does this on many stations in Europe, especially in Norway, and they are already starting to do the same in the US out west when the space allows it. They are also installing slanted parking spots to allow charging on both sides, doing the same as gas pumps placing the next to each other back to back, so that EVs backup, or pull in, on both sides. I charged on several like this in Arizona a few months back. As for a state like West Virginia, you have to keep in mind that they are very anti-EV. I doubt that there are any CCS DC fast charging stations there. Please let me know if I'm wrong on that. Tesla is allowed only because Elon plays along with their right wing ways, so he gets a pass.

      Lack of pass thru stations is a real estate issue not a design challenge. Landlords are reluctant to give up prime real estate to accommodate 16+ chargers arranged under a roof with more square footage needed for ingress and exiting the canopies than just some parking spots on the fringe.

      @@anthonyc8499 One of my main reasons for this comment is I think that there needs to be more of a gas station type feel for charging stations. It will make it more comfortable and safe for all drivers (especially, no offense, women), if they are lit, and covered. And with the ease of a pass through design, it will make them more accessible to all drivers and all models of cars. Yes, I know the OEMs will change, but the current cars will still be around for a while, and the more that the charging stations can be adapted to work well for EVERYONE, the better, IMO.

    Nice find! It's a bit of a missed opportunity to check out the specifications placard on the cabinets to see if they're V3 or V4. With non-Teslas coming to these Superchargers, this station was built with other cars in mind and that impacted the site design a bit. So it's a bit odd that there was no curiosity about the dispenser positioning in the stalls or the width of the stalls.

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comments @anthoneyc8499. I wasn't aware of the specifications placard, when i return i'll make sure to look. And you are right about the width of the stalls I thought about that later. It is interesting that the dispensers themselves appear in all sorts of positions from location to location.

  • @Dubitz
    @Dubitz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There seems to be four V3 cabinets installed there (one cabinet per 4 stalls). Unless you can go back there and see the power info on the cabinets, it's best to assume these will still output 250kW and not 350kW.

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for your comment @Dubitz. I will be going back soon I didn't realize the cabinets had those details on them. When I return I'll see what I can find out. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching our video. You'd expect that they would have built in some plans for higher speed with those V4 Dispensers, so perhaps a software update?

      Today, I returned to film Part 2 of the video, which will offer additional information soon. In the interim, here are some details from the cabinets: the output power is 250kW. Odds are these are v4 dispensers with v3 chargers so do not expect any difference in your charging. Also your charging speed is dictated by the car so your long range 3/y will always top out at 254 if conditions are perfect (ie low state of charge and warm battery). It is still good to see this. The long cable means the Fords can use the charger the same way a Tesla does and the magic dock opens it up to just about anyone.

      Thanks @scottz45 for your comment. I agree with you on all points. I may not have been clear on optimum charging conditions, so thanks for adding your comment to help clarify. I was also not familiar with specs on the cabinets, this is something i'll confirm on my next visit. Are you in the area?

    Yeah...the whole con was a bit frustrating in regards to movement and esp the entrance. Why TF did we have to register our passes? Do that shit at the beginning? I was in the holding pen way too long trying to navigate the site to register. I bought it...let me in! Im curious how other cons do it?

    • @HeyWeirdos
      @HeyWeirdos 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In Seattle they mail the passes to the locals who can register before they arrive, that helps with traffic as just the out of towners have to pick up tix and register. Everything was crammed, a vendor told us that they normally have 10 feet from the booth across from them, so more attendees and less room in the aisles for them. There were a lot of things we didn’t see on tables until the 2nd & 3rd day because we couldn’t see them past the crowds. Curious, did the larger crowds mean more donations at the 501st?

    • @GenerationX-WingPodcast
      @GenerationX-WingPodcast 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @HeyWeirdos we actually had less donations this year. We did have ome technical issues with things, which affected it, but we were on pace for less than last year. Don't want to say it was cuz of the con though. Times are tough with inflation. There seemed to be some issues with the space we were given but it was tight. I only did one of my costumes during the early open due to traffic and my limited vision. Didn't wanna take a chance.
