Who are Carma Adventures?!
We’re Carol and Max, the duo behind Carma Adventures! Max is originally from Spain, and I’m from Brazil.
We started this channel back in 2021 as a way to capture our adventures-a kind of digital memory book we could look back on and share with our future kids.
After a year of working and living in London, in July 2024, we left our “normal” life behind, packed everything into a storage unit, and set off on a crazy journey through Southeast Asia. A lot of people thought we were mad to quit our jobs just as our careers were starting, but we couldn’t imagine spending the rest of our lives being dictated by someone else’s schedule and dreams.
Our goal? To travel as much as possible, uncover hidden gems, and inspire others to live life to the fullest. What began as a simple backpacking trip through Southeast Asia quickly became a lifestyle, and now, we’ve set ourselves a new mission-to see the world before we hit the big 30!
Along the way, we hiked an active volcano at 2am, bungee jumped from the second tallest bungee in the world, and discovered hidden gems that most tourists miss. Carma Adventures is all about showing that travel doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated-it’s about the experiences, both big and small.
Big thanks to everyone who’s been following along on this journey! You’re the best! 🩵✈️🌏

Looking at things to do in Indonesia, we came across a guided tour in the spectacular volcano in East Java. It sounded like the perfect opportunity to hike a mountain in Indonesia. Kawa Ijen also ...

It's so dark.. but in way back everything is pretty..
Yeah, it was really late (or early in the day, depends how you see it ahaha), but that also meant that we could see the stars very clearly and it was beautiful 😍 Thank you so much for commenting by the way🤗

13:45 Nah, not the dark joke 💀
ahaha yeah, it was a bit shocking 🫣
First time i went to Bali was 1998.. you ate for 30 cents a meal and accommodation was often free as long as you ate there.. Bali back then before it got to popular was a true paradise.. Take Bingin for example, it had only 5 warungs on the beach, stay for free and pay for food.. no electricity or toilets and most important not to many surfers there.. I saw a video on Bingin, maybe 60 warungs now? craisy... Gili Islands too, it was almost nothing there back then, absolut paradise.. wish you youngers could have seen it
It has definitely changed. It is now tailored for tourists. We still managed to find some quiet places and enjoy the beautiful island, but it is not what it used to be
@@carmaadventures I sure you can still find amazing places, such an awesome island, great surf everywhere too
It's so amazing!!
Thank you so much 🫶

Hello, how are you? I am a regular viewer of your TH-cam channel. I came here to say that- Your content is always engaging and incredibly well-presented!" Good luck to you.
Thank you so much for your comment. It means a lot! 🫶
@@carmaadventures thanks
Are you kidding me
mmm... not sure ahaha. wdym??
Pretty simple: Respect local rules when you travel. No need for all the debate.
it's not really a local rule, it is a company policy. This specific temple is owned by a private company. In other local temples you are allowed to record (obviously as long as it is in a respectful manner without disturbing others).
@carmaadventures I appreciate that, but as someone who has travelled Asia for decades, these kind of debates create more tensions than get policies amended. If you want to see meaningful change, put down roots somewhere you love and work with the locals for better outcomes for both sides.
Why i watch this video, 2 idiot making it 😮😮😮

Why u are offended?
Carol said why after she said I'm offended 😐
I need to point u out Westerners, you are in Others ppl country, u are not in ur country, respect ppl culture
sorry, where is the disrespect in this short?
@@carmaadventures If ur offended by women not being allowed in the temple, then don’t come in the first place, why film a video, just to tell everyone we are wrong? and then try to lecture us on how we should follow ur Western ideologies? like feminism, human rights, individualism, woke culture, DEI? you guys not doing any better than us, especially with what happening in Gaza, with the genocide in Israel. Sick of Westerner double standards
Jacky, I think it has been blown out of proportion. We visited a temple, Carol couldn't go in, Max went in, end of story. There is no lecture, simply read what it says. Also saying you guys is very broad when we are from different continents (Can you guess where we are from?😃). We respect an enjoy Asian cultures 🙏

Its a Temple, a place of worship. Respect their rules. Most places of worship dont appreciate people filming.
The plan was to film around the temple not inside. Also, this temple is not typically used by locals, it's more for tourists to appreciate the beautiful design/ architecture.
@@carmaadventures what do you mean 'not typically used by locals'. Of course it is. It's a temple. It was designed by the National Artist for Thai people.
That's what a local from Chiang Rai mentioned to us in a conversation
just accept and respect what she say
First
you are
She asked if you were TH-camrs and you said yes. Having a “professional” camera is probably an easy tell as to if you are someone who films for work. They allow recording for personal use. This is not discrimination they would have allowed you to go in if you signed and followed the contract. Stop trying to paint the places you visit in a bad light. So entitled and rude to the staff who are only doing their job. Don’t think they came up with the rules.
We don't film for work. TH-cam is our "book of memories" and some people watch and some others don't. We don't live from this. Is 90% of the population Instagramer for uploading posts to Instagram? Does that mean that that is your job? Are you saying that everyone that has a professional camera has a job taking pics/recording? If you watched the whole video we mentioned several times that we understand it's not her fault, and in several occasion we said about leaving but the lady continued the convo (not in a rude way at all). Yet again, we said it is a beautiful temple, and we recommend people visit it, but this video is mainly to record our experience and maybe other people that go with cameras and mics can be prepared.
@@carmaadventures calling yourself a TH-camr implies you do it for work. Most of the population wouldn’t consider themselves TH-camrs even tho they use it. You even asked the worker “if we post a video and we are earning money from that video.” And when the worker said yes. You went no and asked for a refund. And just cause you didn’t say anything rude doesn’t mean you didn’t have a rude attitude. You continued to argue with her about the wording of the contract knowing she couldn’t do anything.
I guess the difference is that we work hard but we don't do it for work. It's easier to say that we are TH-camrs rather than explaining that this video will end up on TH-cam. At the end of the day, if you read the contract it mentions ads. TH-cam places ads on your videos regardless if you monetise or not. We never said that the fact of having a contract is the issue, but we won't give ownership of our work to others and that contract also didn't make sense. As the lady said, we had a professional camera. No where in the contract says to single out people with professional cameras nor microphones (she also then added followers and subtitles which is also not in the contract). In fact, it says that even people taking still images and photographs and uploading it to social media would have to sign that. We were trying to understand why we were the only ones singled out when other people also had professional cameras, tripods, and were clearly taking vids. I don't recoil this conversation being heated nor angry, simply confusion from both parties
@@carmaadventures the camera was a way for them to deduct that you might do social media for monetary gain. And the contact does not have to state what criteria they use to ask you to sign it. You said it yourself TH-cam slaps ads on your videos anyway. They might not want ads to run that don’t align with that of country or the temple and most TH-camrs have sponsored videos. And again you don’t have outwardly rude to be rude. You can be passive aggressive or dismissive the tone in you voice and your body language.
I think the camera is something irrelevant now a days. I'm sure you have seen big and actual TH-camrs filming with their phones. When they claim the rights it means that all monetary gains (in this case non) will go towards them. but regardless, I think you read to much into the voice and body language. It is a conversation where we are trying to understand what's going on. But at the end of the day, to reiterate, this is our experience and we share it for other creators to understand what they will need to address if they wish to record at this location 😊
No wonder why you have no views, limited likes and no comments, you both go to new countries and act so spoiled and keep harassing a worker trying to do the rule with limited English and minimum wages
The moment were everything went south is 02:26
Actually quite nice and cozy, I’m one of those weird Englishmen who like lonely walks in the rain, I cannot lie it’s so awesome sometimes, especially when there’s thunderstorms on the menu.⛈️🌧️🏴

TBH, i'm thai and i don't eat insects ^^ and i don't think most Thais eat them too. I've tried couple times but just easy one that looks like french fries that's it. Thai food is mostly tend to sweet side. Whenever you order something, you've gotta tell specifically NO SWEET, especially coffee in Thailand.
Did they taste like French fries? ahaha To be honest, we were speaking with some Thai people and they said they would eat insects some times instead of peanuts (as a snack). That's really interesting, we didn't know we could ask for it not to be sweet. Thank you so much for your comment 🫶
