Feral Motherhood || I watched NIGHTBITCH 🐕
"What did I just watch?" Well, I would have to say an eye-opening account of what motherhood actually feels like sometimes.
So much love, devotion, and patience goes into motherhood, but, what's hardly ever talked about, are the other emotions/thoughts.
I thought Yoder did a fine job portraying the abstract intricacies. I interpreted them allegorically and symbolically. However, even if "Nightbitch" was written as a well-thought-out fictional narrative with a sci-fi twist, that is also fine.

Tarot: Associations?, Art?, Archetypes?
Okay, so I have been watching this guy here on TH-cam, Novum, who's done these super in-depth navigations of movies like the Witch and Midsommer. It makes me want to do a similar exploration of this piece of art. I haven't read the book, and I wasn't going to watch the movie until I saw your post. I am so glad to have been influenced. I'm 60, I had 5 c-section births, I'm a painter, and I have just been through the home-birth of my granddaughter with my eldest daughter, who is 37. She did it completely without the drugs and man-made intervention of hospitals despite many people voicing concerns for her safety. She is a warrior, and I made her. This future generation is my greatest work of art. I found the movie interesting in a hundred ways. Did you notice how unattractive they made the husband character when he was purposefully dismissive and blind to her pain? Then, when he realized his errors, he was still the same regular mortal man, but lit better and a little more attractive. I found it interesting that the child, although she mentions him growing up and "pissing in her face," he is always portrayed as beautiful and sweet... even when he does misbehave. I always adored my children, but they definitely were the hardest job. I will come back for more discussion - but real life calls! 🐺
I felt the same way. I wanted to talk forever about the nuanced symbolism! It was so spot on. And. Husband definitely went through his own transformations! I loved how much love was shared but also so much pain and exhaustion and truth was displayed. I had two of mine with no meds and they were truly the most painful, spiritual (maybe even shamanistic) e experiences of my life. And congrats to your warrior daughter! Witnessing a birth is such a powerful thing to see! (I saw my sisters 2) This movie was powerful and am glad I saw it. I would soak up an in-depth analysis from you. 😛
As a72 year old woman who never had children I did believe I could comprehend what giving birth and being a Mom was like I now know that is not true at all. I loved this movie NightBitch so much and the world it opened into motherhood I never comprehended. thank you so much for sharing this and opening my heart.

I really appreciate you bringing up this still taboo subject. My third is due in a few weeks and everything you spoke on has been at the forefront for me. I take this as a sign to see this movie!
@bjork914 It was truly profound. My third was born 2 years ago, and it's still widely identifyingly difficult! Like I said, proceed at your own risks. Many people couldn't even watch the whole thing.
I haven't read the book or as yet watched the movie. But hearing you talk about it makes me want to watch it.
I've never read the book or seen the movie but Gods.....hearing you talk about motherhood and the challenges of finding who you are again hits home. Thank you for sharing this 🙏🏻
@@AbitheWitch It definitely shined a light on motherhood. It's profound, but so many of us just don't talk about it, so to have a book/now movie about it blows it all out of the water!
I laugh when I see the title Nightbìtch, I think it's because it's taboo for a title to have a cuss word in it..plus it's also creative. I haven't watched it or read the book. I think it was a smart idea to not give the baby or the husband names..it seems like it really helps make her the focal point of the story.. it kind of emphasizes the baby and the husband are more side characters and not super important to the story over all. This might sound weird but over the years I have thought about what were my Mom's changes after having me. She was 38 when she had me so her age comes into play as well in my ponderings. She had a C-section too and that adds another layer. Most of the time if not all the time when I'm pondering this I feel a sense of guilt.
@dylanmagoiofthethalasso4032 The name was so creative! I loved it. The no-naming has a dissociation that feels so appropro. I read a book years ago that said that to better relate to our parents was to imagine them as children. That advice has helped me through so much. Your reflections will have an impact, for sure.
@@LennanSmith Dissociation is a great word for this! I can see that, Lennan. When I was growing up I always wondered about my parents as kids and over the years with lore drops it helps to fill in some of the gaps. My Dad's lore drops over the last few years has helped be more to remember to be a little bit more soft with him since he most likely will never explore his childhood and his faults that came from said childhood. Granted, it still has very little effect on my sour emotions and views about him.

2nd comment: Tracy Chevalier wrote the novel “girl with a pearl earring“ because she went to a museum and saw the original painting by Vermeer and was inspired to create a whole world and story around it. I thought that was so inspiring!
@megadele65 Right! Think about if everyone allowed this type of inspiration to take over, we'd have so many more great works out there! (I mean, we do, but, still lol)
I am obsessed with words! When I’m reading a book, and I come across a word that I may not fully understand, I always stop and look it up. I don’t just pass over it. One way I get inspired to write is I go sit at a coffee shop and I people watch. I might even eavesdrop on a conversation. And then I start to imagine that person‘s life, their personality, their character. And I start to write a vignette about them. I also take a tarot deck with me and I will pull cards to help me put into words a story about that person. And I then turn on music as I write to further inspire the story. Love the idea of taking virtual museum tours! Loved this video!
I started watching this movie, but I turned it off about halfway thru. Tbh, it was difficult to watch because I related to the “unhinged madness” that was portrayed by Amy Adams. And it was hard for me to face. When I became a mother, I experienced a complete loss of identity as I became consumed by domesticity and mundane daily tasks. I experienced feelings of resentment towards my husband as he continued his normal daily life of a career, and being out of a home 12 hours a day, and the expectation that I should handle 100% of parenting duties and caring for our home. This movie brought all of those feelings back up for me. And honestly, I did not regain my individual identity until after my children were grown and left home. Have you seen the movie “the hours”? The character played by Juliana Moore who struggled being a mother in the 50s hit me on such a deep personal level, and it has stayed with me ever since. Great video!
@megadele65 So many I heard from on this say the same thing! It really is shadow-wrapped! Man, I haven't seen the Hours in such a long time, but, yes that was another kinda creepy movie on the basis of all this.
Hi, I am Lena, live in Sweden and I had a dream about a very wild wolf that I was supposed to look after. This was in the 90ties. I told someone about the dream and they pointed me towards Clarissas book, and it never left my bed table since! I love what you did here, thank you!
Thank you, Lennan...for following through, so we could all feel more supported in finishing this deep reading. A real feat! I read this the year it came out, I was in my mid-20s. Oh boy! I have encountered those deceptively undetailed spots in my journals. And that secondary character in my own story really punched me right in the gut. But in the best way. It was like OUCH! But then....Like that gif of the chick tasting Kombucha for the first time, but energetically. I found a TH-cam channel today about menopause that I am so into, I was starting to write one of those deceptively undetailed journal entries about my waking up at night....and then I stopped, got distracted, and when I looked up at the page that loaded after my frequencies video, there was this woman telling me my menopause journey is one of power and beauty and kundalini heat rising through me.. and I was just floored. Thanks! It was so much fun. I surprised myself with so many of these picks. LOL.
"Thoth with your head" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I LOVE that Lennan!!!!!! I looked into the half shell TMNT thing and I couldn't really find an answer. Some say that it wasn't supposed to be literal, some say that it was a play on the phrase "Oysters in a half shell"...which I've never heard before. Some say that it might be because their back shell is curved but their front shell is flat so it's in a way half of a shell. This isn't Thoth but whenever I think of the High Priestess and Hierophant I think of the Lilifer Tarot. The High Priestess with a negative space fire in her belly region helped me connect that to your intuition, "the gut feeling" and is person (individual and free) centered while the Hierophant is depicted as a tree person. Their feet are connected and if you read up on trees, trees send messages, nutrients etc through their roots helping them "learn and grow". The phrase "cut from the same tree" could be implied here as well but for the meaning of tradition/al. The fruits of the hierophant is like passing on the knowledge and practices of the said religion/tradition.
Oh, Lilifer is a cool deck. I do like other cards from other decks for sure. Like I think my favorite would have to be the shaman from Mythologia Fennica. It just encompasses so much of how I see them.
Elusive cards in the card deck... um all of them... lol I havent really read thoth. But how fun!
🤣🤣🤣 🤘
I am loving this idea! I've even come up with a couple other categories... Falling down the rabbit hole- cards that you love to nerd out on and The Caucus Race- cards that challenge societal norms That nine of Wands has more moons than Jupiter! No wonder it is curiouser and curiouser...😅 I have the book The Energy of the Hebrew Letters by Rav Berg, and all my Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb cards are the ones put together in that book... Lust and Chariot, Hierophant and Emperor, and Empress and Priestess. They came before the creator together in pairs and asked to be used as the letters of creation. I love the book because it anthropomorphizes the Hebrew letters which brought them home in the tarot for me with the archetypes. But I will forever have Lust and Death as a pair because they are mine and my husband's zodiacal cards. He is sooo death it's not funny. He has 6 Scorpio placements, and I am a Leo Sun. But girrrrlll, when you pulled out the 4 of wands for fun but meaningless, I almost spit my water out. The birds and rams on this card always bring to mind a Rocky Mountain Goat on the side of a cliff and some damn bird is just messing with him so hard. (maybe it's because I'm from Montana) But THAT is what the card means to me. I think I have sure footing, but something is determined to distract me or knock me off my foundations. 😂 I think it ties in with it being the point at which something is going to manifest, even if you haven't given it much thought. There is no turning back, and anyone who knows me knows I LOVE my edits in life.... lol With the Chariot, "You're just telling me I'm moving!" sent me 😆😆....I hear Jack Nicholson in As Good As It Gets saying "I'm drowning here! And you're describing the water!" The Moon is my Rabbit hole card.....and the 4 of disks is my top pull for 2024! I love it too! It came to the top, but Sorrow, Strife and Debauch were the next three in line. I def spent this year getting my proverbial house in order and all of those areas, emotions, thoughts, and actions, were addressed and put in their places, which makes sense because I didn't pull Dominion but 4 times, probably because I was acting it out in life, so it didn't need to say much. Have you ever used the Angeles Arrien daily pull chart? It's in The Tarot Handbook. This is my third year using it and I adore it. Although this is the first year I've actually pulled a card every day. I love looking over it at the end of the year and making all kinds of connections and then revisiting the journal pages for those days. All your Queen of Hearts cards are so spot on. Especially Peace and Strife. You'd love my "Mem's Path" Spread about resistance. Lunch with Lennan is a great time today. I'm def doing this rundown. I may even come back here and post it in the comments. Have a stellar weekend, Lennan! Much love and many blessings to you and yours as always. 🥰🥰 P.S. I have wealth shadows too, but today, the 8 of Cups, of all cards, helped me realize that I block my abundance because someone told me that for me to have, someone else must go without, (maybe my mother always telling me how much money I cost my father or something?), and I realized what a total lie that is. What is FOR us is for US, and there is enough for everyone! The faucet of Yesod is not dripping, it is on full blast! But if we don't claim it, someone else is more than happy to snatch it up. Plus, I project my own perceptions of lack onto others whom I might exchange goods or services with, and that is a total carousel of thought, as in your 4 of wands, if I ever saw one. Anyway. much love.
Thanks, Julie. I had such a good time going through the deck like this. I LOVE your extra categories!!! The Caucus Race, perfect!! Some of these cards made me roll my eyes so hard. you could hear it! LOL. OMG, we have the goats-on-the-roof here in the Smoky Mtns. LOL. I can picture them so clearly right now. 😁 I like Arrien's book but haven't done the exercises in a long time. Maybe '25 is the year to revisit it. It was such a seminal work when I was learning. "Mem's Path" sounds like a cool spread. oph, your carousel of thoughts in your P.S. hit straight! It can be daunting to realize you're living out someone else's "quotes"! I hope you have a great weekend as well. 💟
@@LennanSmith Coupla mountain girls are we... I dig it! Mem's path gets laid out like the cross The Hanged Man is on... 1 at the bottom up to 4 at the crossbeam and the beam reads 98765 from left to right with ten being at the top. (because the hanged man is upside down) 1. How resistance reveals itself to me. 2. How resistance hides from me. 3. How can I best apply surrender to my resistance? 4. Unintegrated shadow contributing to my resistance. 5. Turning the shadow into an ally. 6. Where am I not resistant enough? 7. Limiting beliefs I hold about surrender. 8. Where is my surrender inauthentic to my true self? 9. Where am I authentically surrendered? 10. Next steps along this path...

I really dig the shrines! The second one is like the canopy of the RWS Chariot on the inside and like the amethyst bowl of the Thoth Chariot on the outside! The chariot carrying the intentions of your emotions to the spirits! Wheeee! My favorite part of this video is you describing one of your books in front of your library. And then you began to read from it! I love it. I adore old books. I got a thrift copy of How to Heal with Color by Ted Andrews and it smells so divine! 🥰 How much do I love that you're a jewelry maker! I just re-engaged with my jewelry making stuff yesterday as I was inspired by the Ted Andrews book to make a pendulum out of this free amethyst point that I got in an Etsy order that was top drilled. I just used cotton cord and knots and then covered the knots with a couple crimping beads. But it was so fun to look through all my stuff for the right beads. You can actually buy copper and bronze clay that you fire with a blowtorch to make a dragon's eye pendant. Get some clay working tools too so you can do details... they are made of silicone. They have silver clay too, but silver is so pricey right now. You can even get patina chemicals to make it look antiqued! Here's a link to Fire Mountain Gems but it might be cheaper elsewhere...You could etch it with the same type of veins in those beads of agate. www.firemountaingems.com/search/?q=metal%20clay&prefn1=web-category&prefv1=Metal%20Clay and they have educational videos! www.firemountaingems.com/learn/categories/metalworking-resources.html My favorite Ben Kingsley movie is The House of Sand and Fog, it even honored the book. I never knew that about the pencil with him. I adore the feeling and sound of colored pencils and crayons rubbing onto paper. As a child I would scribble in big circles and push really hard because it was such a pleasure to the senses! You're so right about the liminality of workings... I almost enjoy planning a ritual spell more than doing the actual spell. All the power goes into it as I create the spell and then the ritual is just the punctuation. Same with art... I make love to the paper and the colors as I go. Sometimes it will sit and just be for days as I love each step of the process. Picasso said it took him a lifetime to learn to create like a child. Sorry for writing a book, here. I kept thinking of things as I watched. Much love and many blessings to you and yours, Lennan. I enjoyed spending some of my morning with you. Oh man! I'm so bummed I missed this! I just bought all the rest of your books today. Except synthesis oracle 1 which I adore! @57:46 I think complacency is the conformity to the ego. The picture is giving me heavy Neverending Story Oracle vibes. I can hear the old man saying "men run away screaming". But your picture is a far worse mental picture for me as I am likening it to the personal hell of acting out of habit even though one is sick of the habit, just doing it over and over again out of some false memory of the satisfaction of doing the thing, whatever it may be. This cycle often continues until the REAL Tower moment comes and blasts us into an action that is transformative. My personal hell would be sliding down the hot, metal slide of the summer playground of my youth again and again and again until the flesh of my legs and butt is raw hamburger. All out of the desire for the ride down to be fun the next time. Ugh. May I never be complacent with situations like this in my life, may I feel the burn of it the first time down and move on! AISISSIB! 👏👏👏 🔥 I'm enjoying this replay of the live so much. I can't imagine life without a little Lennan in it. Much love and many blessings to you and yours. 🥰🥰 P.S. Authentic to me is just simply being true to self and transparent to Spirit. You have that covered, no doubt about it. Editing is a good thing and keeps flow and also reduces time. I honestly don't care if you kept in talking to your kids and blowing your nose, but You certainly don't have to leave them in to be "authentic". You are!
Julie, you're such a peach! I'm sorry to have missed you but was thinking of you. 😁 And thank you for the kind words, the live kind of took a turn there at the end, which is why Lives can be so fun sometimes! LOL.
📚💛 Congratulations on your recent book, Lennan! I enjoyed hanging out with you for your livestream! 💛📚
You can go to the audio options and change it back to the original Spanish with English subtitles! It does default to English for some reason though. Thanks for letting me know about this show I can’t wait to start it :)
Oh, thanks for this. I was so confused. LOL.
I love hearing about other witches prayer/rosary beads. Could you make a video on what a war/warrior rosary means to you and how you use it?
This was SO GREAT! Thanks for letting me hang out with you. ❤
Thanks. I'm so glad you're here. 😁
Omgsh yum 😋 I loved that book too ❤
