    I've seen this movie 4 or 5 times trying to understand everything. I miss something every time I see it and catch it the next. I still don't understand who or what green eyes is. I don't know if she's evil or divine. When she rides Corso like a wild woman with the flames and evil laugh to go with it all, I'm pretty sure she has to be a fallen one. They say you sleep with everyone that your partner has slept with when you get together, and between Leonna and green eyes, I'd say his sin cup be runneth over.

    No evidence for the room 237 "dream" theory. In fact the film's continuity itself totally debunks it, i.e. the clothes Danny is wearing. Rob Ager talked an absolute load of shit on this one I'm afraid.

    11:20 I often wondered if Kubrick placed the Verona Restaurant prominently in the background as a reference to the "Secret Treaty of Verona" conspiracy theory. A supposed treaty between European monarchs to undermine America and republicanism in general. The conspiracy theory apparently had an influence in creating the "Monroe Doctrine"

    My wife pointed out this possibility earlier today. She even mentioned how the lady with the baby has a baby carriage from the early 1900’s, which could imply that she’s not real or is a ghost.

    Ehh... it was a valiant effort, but I'm light of the themes explored across Kubrick's lexicon, and the fact that he is self referential across his filmography, it just makes more sense to me that Ager is on point with his analysis.

    It’s not accurate to say there’s no prior indication of Helena being in danger. Red cloak explicitly warns: “If you tell anyone a single solitary thing about what you’ve seen here, there will be the most dyer consequences for you AND your family…” The moment Cruise tells Kidman the whole story, they cut to the last scene where Helena disappears behind two men in a toy store. Sure, we may be reading too much into the purposeful ambiguity. But Kubrick controlled every detail and it was a choice for Helena to disappear into the crowd, followed by two men. There are very few accidents in Kubrick film.

    I love this movie but there’s SO much missing from dialogue in the script. It makes me wonder what the film would’ve been like if these scenes weren’t removed. Parker probably cut down at least a third of the scenes for a natural theatrical release, but then a movie such as The Godfather is 3 hours long.

  • @letsdiscussitoversometea8479
    @letsdiscussitoversometea8479 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I've always had a dimly held suspicion that Jack was about to abuse Danny in that scene. It's never been serious, and the reason I say that, is because he speaks too forthcomingly and confidently to Danny in the scene, which I suspect a real abuser wouldn't do. Also, Jack was very forthcoming about his dream to Wendy, which he didn't need to be, which suggests that he's not in the habit of hiding things from his family. Danny entering the room in a severely traumatized state could've been an extraordinarily unfortunate piece of bad luck for Jack, immediately happening JUST after he'd conveyed the nature of his dream to his wife, and the look on his face (to me) is that of a little boy fearing being blamed for something that they know, an adult might not completely understand. The camera shots of Jack's face might've been an "invitation" for the watching viewer to "judge" Jack right at the pivotal moment. Jack's reaction when he's next seen walking toward The Gold Room, suggests his indignation at being blamed unfairly for injuring Danny, so I absolutely believe that Jack really was innocent entirely. Jack being given validation by being believed of his innocence after Wendy runs in and tells of Danny's account of the crazy woman, is what "allows" him to revert to getting pissed off at her when they're later talking after coming back from visiting room 237.

    In a different video you theorized that characters' closeness to the Devil is correlated with how high from the ground they're depicted, but what if it's the other way around? The characters who occupy the highest buildings are the furthest away from the Devil and characters close to ground level are closest. I think that would mean that out of all the characters Balkan was actually the furthest from his 'master' and the one who was closest was... Bernie the bookseller? Might this theory lead to any interesting interpretations about what was actually going on?

    Tom Cruise does a great job with such a ridiculous script! I found nothing mysterious in this film, only the willful mystification of a gullible audience, which is one of the hackneyed devices of Modernist anti-art. The film says less than nothing about men and women. You could learn more from an episode of 'Happy Days'. The audience is duped into thinking its getting high art, when its merely getting glorified trash. Is it not ironic that the last word uttered (by Kidman), in the last film of Kubrick is an expletive - that says it all. Kubrick may be a master of technique, but not of storytelling. Kubrick's films are designed to draw attention to themselves, rather than communicate anything of value to their audiences.

    I enjoyed “the letter theory,” in that with just changing the ONE SCENE where Bill reads the letter threatening him to stay away it was changed before release. From a threat to go after his wife and child to the MUCH tamer threat of “we hope this will be sufficient,” It helps bring a lot of the story together, especially the ending.
