I think the two older men in the toy store were present at Ziegler's party, sitting at the table next to the statue at the bottom of the stairs. The table, the men, and the two women with them, were not at the bottom of the stairs next to the status the first time it was shown. They appeared the second time the stairs were shown.

The stroller could represent the woman who lives there, it's a symbol of her innocence and the childhood trauma she has yet to face. It is not locked up as she is still looking to fill the void, other men are pushing her stroller from time to time.

It was hard to follow the contradiction of the window from the scenes shown but taking everyone’s word for it I was wondering if one possible interpretation is that the window existed but the later scenes demonstrating the contradiction were supposed to show the hotel morphing around when the ghosts (or hallucinations) were happening in the winter.

I grew up with an emotionally abusive parent, and the tension in that car ride up to the hotel is painfully familiar to me. It’s clear to me that Jack had one of his blowups, and now Wendy is walking on eggshells to try to keep him happy and calm. It fits the way she acts other times in the film, as well, trying to maintain a peaceful demeanor around him, so as not to set him off. I know that experience all too well.

To dismiss a “theme” that runs through Kubrick’s entire body of work from SPARTACUS and LOLITA to EYES WIDE SHUT… displays an ability to ignore a subversive but glaringly obvious intention…. Specifically; the excesses of the controlling elite and the psycho/ sexual mechanisms that are consistently exploited to maintain power over the masses. Given the recent revelations of the Deep State / Hollywood blackmail , mind control scandals coming to light… it is difficult to understand how you missed it

If I had to pick an all time favourite film, this. Would. Be. It. So much symbolism And in the movie, the short Dr. Fowler arc is probably the one sequence of scenes I keep coming back to for analysis. The real art of storytelling is all of the unanswered questions. Who is the woman in the photo Fowler is clutching in death? An ex-lover? An estranged daughter? The very fact that it's really so left to open-ended interpretation is one of the things that makes this such a master class in film making. You don't always have to reveal everything. THIS is what separates the good movies from the mediocre.

Her boyfriend/ fiancé is not someone she is with. She wipes her mouth after they kiss….rewatch…your mind will be blown. Kubrick was trying to send a f u message to the people who do and believe this Stuff. ….cults in Hollywood (there are many) . Diddy is the very very tip of the iceberg

Mistakes made by Tom Cruise in infiltrating the ceremony: 1.Showing up late 2.Showing up in a taxi ( like billionaires/elites always arrive in taxis....never) 3.Having the taxi driver stay outside and potentially give away information about who he was and, of course, reduce his credibility (The method of transportation and lateness might have been forgiven if he made it clear the driver was "in on it" and it seemed like he had plans to leave with another guest) 4.Giving the password to the men outside the building, unprompted 5.Only putting his mask on when he's already inside the mansion. 6.Wearing a mask intended for a commoner - a Volto mask ( only commoners wear these - like the servants). 7.Wandering around the mansion, looking like a fish out of water just watching people engage in these acts 8.Not realizing there was no second password (the final nail in the coffin) Kubrick doesn't even draw attention to half of these, he leaves the details up to the viewer to decipher, showing, not telling.

As a parent living and working in NYC during the '90s, I visited every toy store across the city for years, and not a single one had anything close to the plush toy overload seen in the final scene. Most stores had only a small section for plush toys, nothing like the extravagant display here. This set feels like an exaggerated, surreal vision-classic Kubrick. It’s art direction dialed up to a fantasy level, far removed from the reality of Manhattan’s toy stores at the time. Just sharing some context for anyone wondering!

I think that all the characters see the ghosts they need to see to intensify their attitudes and it symbolizes the internal dynamics of the family. Kubrick's narrative is deliberately porous but the scene of the man dressed as a dog is too powerful to be incidental in the eyes of the mother. There is not even a need for so much conspiracy symbolism of the bears, the theme is placed in a central space. I agree that there was no need for the intimate abuse to materialize, it was enough for the desire in Jack's tormented mind and for it to be perceived by Danny to encyst an abominable ghost in the spectators. On the other hand, it may be more useful to compare The Shining with Lolita than with the TV serie. Kubrick manages quite well to make us overlook the seriousness of aberrant actions, authentic guilty pleasures.

No one has seen God and lived. Humans are not built for absolute Truth. We WANT to be mis-led, mis-treated, mis-guided, mis-just about everything. In fact, the word "sin" comes from an ancient archery term meaning "to miss the target." This movie is the ultimate in pointing the way, while continually providing sinful distractions, to the very end.
