This is a re-upload to address claims. It has been re-edited with new voice-overs here and there. Check out my second channel, link in the description.

I woke up early one morning at a girlfriends house. I knew I couldn’t go back to sleep so I picked up one of books and started reading it. I read this short story 1408. It was really good and really effective. I told her about it later that day. A few days later, we’re at the cinema. The first trailer shown was the trailer for 1408! Anyway. I looked forward to it. On release I didn’t like it. But overtime grew to really like it. Also has about 5 different endings depending on where you actually saw the film. In theatres, dvd, on tv. Crazy.

Room 1408, the black lodge from twin peaks, the otherworld of Silent Hill, the shadow realm of Elden Ring... all representing the shadow aspect of the human psyche, the inner world laid bare in a physical sense. Making it easier to examine trauma and past. Reifying the invisible world that haunts us... I wonder where this framing devixe came from. I know Jung might be credited but I'm sure it's a more ancient notion probably with occult , alchemical and gnostic roots

Room 1408 isn’t anything like those other examples. *Well, I shouldn’t say, nothing like it. There are obvious things, that are in each, but I’m talking what they are as supernatural places/realms.
He has a guilt trip, but most of the movie, is him fighting that the room is actually haunted.
It’s just the loss of his child, and subsequently, his marriage, that is what is actually making him crazy, or what the room feeds upon.
Depending on the ending, the Room fed upon him, or he returns to a better life.
Even the happier ending, has enough ambiguity, that it leaves room for more than one explanation.

Much like Jar-Jar, the poodle is the key to all this. Always have been.
